I've actually seen those tripods around my hometown before they start construction on something; I think they are used by architects and civil engineers to measure distance, height and things like that to map out how much area they have to work with in a location. Since where I live is essentially God's Etch-A-Sketch, they have to rebuild some of the older buildings to make them earthquake proof/resistant.

Ooh, some lovely moments in that little video! And if you go through all Hedgewytch's photos from the day, there are some absolute gems! Perhaps someone more techy than me could "liberate" a few, as some are definitely NC material. You'll know which ones! And I'm loving the red shoes!

Wow, Hedgewytch's pics are much better than mine! Here are my best efforts, taken with rather shaky hands, I must admit. I arrived about 3 o'clock and found a seat in Costa's, overlooking the square, so that I could keep a look-out. I'd just bought my second latte when I saw some camera flashes going off, so I left my coffee on the table and went outside. I watched him do a short piece to camera, then a group of children collared him for photos. He was very sweet with the kiddies, waiting while three or four pairs jumped in and out of the shot with him. Then he turned away, and I thought, 'Well, it's now or never', so I stepped in and asked him to sign my ManLab book. He said OK and we moved under the cover of the council building. He didn't have a pen so I gave him mine, apologising that it was 'a bit girly', and he said he didn't mind using a girly pen. Finally, following up on his recent tweets, I gave him a copy of a book about writing haiku, which he accepted with a wry laugh. I said I knew he was only messing about with his Honda poems, but I thought he might actually enjoy haiku, so he said he'd take a look and said 'Thank you', and that was it. I went back to Costa's and finished my coffee, wondering how exactly I'd managed all that without falling over, mumbling incoherently or otherwise disgracing myself Then I got soaked to the skin in the rain. But it was worth it!

Well done, lady. Now go and have a lie down on the nearest fainting couch. What has Himself scribble on your book? I can't work it out. Lovely pics as well. It was worth being drenched in sky juice

What has Himself scribble on your book? I can't work it out. It just says 'Best, etc', I think. It was a big shame about the weather, Jacqui. James seemed a bit fed up about it: he remarked to me about how terrible it was - and it only got worse towards the end of the day. Never mind, eh?
