I actually don't know how a hangover feels.... seriously! I can drink all I want and I do not get sick. Officially I am not allowed to drink alcohol, so I do not drink that often (medicine) but when I do, I get really, REALLY drunk really fast. (i.e. after just two glasses of wine). I am on the floor after a bottle and after two bottles I do not know who I am anymore ;D This makes me a cheap date of course But I never had a hangover. Oh wait, that is not true. I once had a hangover when I was 17. I had two bottles of Baileys, then a bottle of Tia Maria and few beers. This did not go well and I felt a bit sick afterwards, throwing up everything. My mum couldn't stop laughing (I was on a party with my parents when this all happened, how embarassing actually) and said that this was something every youth had to go through ;D But this was the only time, afterwards I never felt this way again. I feel lucky. OH has studied the inside of our toilet bowl many times ;D and I always felt sorry for him. I only get really h.o.r.n.y. when I'm drunk.

I'm with you on the not getting a hangover deal. I've never had one. Although it's not been because I've not given it the old college try! Perhaps we're just made different from everyone else! ;D ;D

Don't know why it is but I could drink a keg of German lager and be mostly OK but 3 or 4 pints of English or Irish ale and I'm in trouble that night and the next day. Is it like drinking your family label? Genetic memory?

That is because German lager is considered "light" beer. It's (if I'm not mistaken here) only about 2,5 - 4% alcohol.
Other beers and lagers have more alcohol in them, between 5-7%. In the Netherlands, a beer with 10% exists. If you drink this too quickly, your head will explode.
This is why most Germans over here can drink these large amounts of lager, it hardly contains any alcohol and it also has something to do with the way it is processed I believe.
That is the difference.
Also, "Radler" is very popular over here. That's 50% lager and 50% Sprite. Very refreshing on a hot summer day I can tell you.

I'm thinking of creating some Parma Violet vodka, by dissolving some Parma Violets in a bottle of vodka, like people do with Skittles. ;D Finding the vodka will be most easy, but as the shop where I bought the sweets has closed down now I shall have to go hunting.

I saw something amazing in our store the other day - make your own liqueur - just take an empty bottle, put 1/6 sugar in it, then add things you like in it, such as sweets, pepper, spices, vanilla, etc. You only need to add a clear and strong alcohol like vodka, rum or anything like it, leave it in a warm, dry place, and after two days you've created your own liqueur!

We have something similar here as well, it actually can be really tasty

Don't think it's the ABV in anything I'm drinking. It just went through my recycling and looked at the bottles. Spaten = 5.2 ABV London Pride =4.7 ABV I don't think I've ever had a lager with an ABV of below 4.5. Even American style lager (pretty much water with beer flavoring) like Budweiser is 5% ABV. I wonder if it could be the sugar content. Personally, the higher the sugar content in an alcohol drink, the more "messed up" I end up.

I am drinking a very fine NZ sauvignon blanc (brand name is Counting Sheep....might solve James' insomnia problem.....anyway). Have only has 2 glasses and am quite merry. Not much to eat toady. That might be the problem. Oh well. May have mentioned this in another thread. Sorry.

Have had enough beer at this point to remember that the portion of the 101 freeway running along the western shore of San Francisco Bay is called James Lick. Seriously. The wonders of beer and the human mind.

Good one, AM.
It is still unbearably hot here and I'm eyeing the blender.
