Sorry, I need some advice please?... I got a security message tonight saying my pc was infected by a virus... it appeared to be from Windows Security, and looks official. However, I have Norton, and have run a scan which says there are no viruses.
Problem is, the 'warning message' keeps popping up every few mins, but if I tell it to remove the virus, it simply offers me a security package (which is chargeable, and in dollars)... I don't want to pay, but I can't get rid of the reminders!
Any solution/advice please?

I don't use Norton but I do have Spybot, ATF, CCleaner and AVG. All free from File hippo. You could also download malawarebytes also from the same place. Run them all and see what they find. The other thing to try is doing a system restore to back before you had a problem. Wyvern is the one to help with this sort of thing. Are you about Wy?

Ahhh... Thanks Daisy, it does say 'ads disabled' on mine... does that mean it will 'right itself' tho'?

I have the 'ads disabled' thing too. I guess it'll sort itself eventually, but I'm no 'puter expert, so don't trust a word I say about this ;D If your other virus programmes say you're clear, then I guess you're clear. You'll just have the annoying pop ups. Hopefully ;D

Hello, here I am Right, that sounds like malware. What is the name of the package it's demanding?

Oh crikey, I've no idea... it just looks like Windows, it's actually called 'Personal Security'... it has a shield and everything (sorry, I am so useless)

But you said it was offering you a security package that you have to pay for... what's the name of the security package it wants you to buy? Can you do a screenprint of the thing that comes up when you try to remove it? (use the 'PRT SCN' key and then paste into paint) It would help to see what's happening. But these things that hijack your system like that are a pain in the arse to get rid of, so the steps for getting rid may be quite specific.

This is what people have been getting apparently. Sounds much the same, so don't download anything. Over on proboards support they're not sure if it is anything to do with their ads now, or if it is coming from other sites visited, as Proboards only use Google ads.

Well, whatever the problem is, the virus warnings are still appearing, I ran another Norton scan last night which again came up negative, yet the system ran slower and slower last night, until it came to a complete standstill I tried to unistall the relevant security programme (which I appeared to have 'installed' on Friday), but it won't let me, so if you don't hear from me tonight...

There are several ways, I use PhotoBucket, its free. Load the pictures you want and PB automatically gives the photo 'links' one of which is an IMG code, this is what can be used for avatar and sigs. just by clicking on it to copy then all you have to do is paste it where you want it!! There are guidelines on here about the sizes of such though so read up on those first. (It will also allow you to post pics quite easily.) found the guidelines ;D jamesmayboard.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=jamesmay&action=display&thread=62Welcome by the way ;D

Advice needed!
I want to create a GIF from TG 04x05. Unfortunately my GIF-making programme will only create using clips from YouTube. I've searched YouTube and the bit I want isn't there (it's the Pendine Sands roadtests).
I can find it on the official Top Gear site but I have no idea how to get it onto YouTube and frankly, I imagine it would be blocked anyway for copyright reasons.
Does anyone know if it's lurking around on YouTube but I just can't find it? Otherwise, what is tinyurl and is it safe?
Cheers.

Hi woogy, I'm not sure how the Android app stacks up, but I've been using the iPhone app for a little while now and it seems to be ok on the safety front. It's a bit of a pain to get used to as it's quite different from the web version, and it has a few quibbles (quotes not appearing, inability to edit fonts etc.) but hopefully they'll get ironed out in due course.

Oh, and the app keeps randomly closing down. Didn't mention that yesterday as it seems to have only developed a knack for it today...
