The first 2 series of "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" were absolutely brilliant. I particularly love the "Privatisation of the Police" sketch and of course "Control" and John and Peter..."DAMN!!!". Hilarious. I love the old BBC Comedy's from the past. They just don't seem the same these days. There is a really good comedy that was aired a few years back called "Absolute Power" starring Stephen Fry and John Bird, which I liked. It was clever. I am looking forward to the new series of Red Dwarf and The Thick of It. They are good shows.

Did anyone watch the 3 Dirk Gently episodes that were on recently? They were pretty amusing. I was very worried that another Douglas Adams book was going to be mistreated like what happened to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I think all that is left on i-player right now is episode 3. Hopefully, they will come around again.

you're going to get me started on The Hitchikers Film.... I'm fine with the tv series... it was fine. The film was good - but who the bloody hell cast that wooden plank for Ford Prefect? Arghhhhhh! Annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Missed Dirk Gently. Forgot it was on. One for the I Player I think!

I have to admit that the "Hitchikers" I loved the most was the original version on Radio 4. Everything happens in your imagination - no limits!
I've just watched a prog on BBC2, 'Horizon - The Hunt For AI'. It was incredibly interesting but yet again it was a programme where I kept thinking "James has done much of this before in 'Big Ideas - Man-machine'". Way ahead of his time, in - what was it, 2008?

Agreed Dit The radio shows were brilliant. I'm off to see the show in Newcastle around June time. Should be a good laugh. Very entertaining.
I'd send you the link, but it not working Check out "Chortle" if you're interested
Horizon is a good programme. That's one on the iplayer for the weekend. I started watching Rory McGrath's pub dig Sounded much more interesting than it was. Unfortunately turned it off half way A poor mans "Time Team"... quite dull

I found "Children of the Stones" really quite frightening - and I wasn't a child at the time!
The series that had a whole lot of impact on me in the late 60s when I was young was "The Owl Service", based on Alan Garner's book. It had mysticism to the point of incomprehensibility and a pervading sense of tension (partly sexual, a bit strange for a Sunday tea-time serial!). It was a modern reworking, based on a story from the Welsh legend the Mabinogi.

I found the fourth season got too silly with the senseless violence. I enjoyed Absolute Power too which was shown here a few years back and I have it on my Quickflix queue to see again. I guess my favourite BBC Classic Comedies would have to be Are you being served? Im also a big fan of As Time Goes By. I cant wait for Red Dwarf X, as I am big FAN of Red Dwarf after rediscovering it last year.

I love the BBC classic comedies. I'm actually directing 'Allo 'Allo for my amateur dramatic group at the moment and we have hysterics every rehearsal because it's just so silly but so very funny. We're putting it on at my local Little Theatre in May and I just hope I have a full cast by then, as my German General has been cast three times and every previous one has had to drop out for various reasons!

Can't remember that first episode but remember Rangitoto (prominent landmark of Auckland) being a key part of the program particularly towards the end if I recall correctly...er...going to watch your other youtubes! ;D

Today is Gregory Peck Day on TCM. He is my 3rd favorite celebrity, after James and Sean Connery. They are showing some of his less well-known movies.

I grew up watching Are You Being Served? on the Canadian channel! Mr. Humphries was my 'boyfriend' for ages!! ;D ;D
Loved As Time Goes By as well. Can still never figure out why they never did a Christmas special.
'Allo 'Allo would be fantastic to see on the stage! Good luck with your German general, Dit! ;D ;D

loving the mexican wave.....
Yes, BBC Comedy is brilliant. In fact, a lot of BBC programmes are good and I don't tend to watch many other channels.
I'm enjoying "Just a Minute" on BBC2, 18:00. I like the radio show, but have a thing for Paul Merton so nice to have him on visual.. Stephen Fry was on tonight hosting a rather silly moustache. He doesn't suit that look - he's looking like Lord Melchett's dad now!
Allo Allo - Oh my goodness, I have not watched that in years. That was a very good programme. Here's an Allo Allo fact - The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies painting was given to Lord Bath as it was his favourite programme. It is on display in Longleat. I saw it! ha ha, great stuff!
Cannot remember "As Time Goes By" I'm please to hear that they are remaking "Yes Minister". That should be good.
Red Dwarf is my favourite though. Absolutely Brilliant (please note I am not including series 8 in this). I saw Norman Lovett (Holly) a few weeks back and chatting about the new series. He had good hopes for it to be a hit. A lovely chap. Very odd humour. I thought he was great. (just thought I'd namedrop - ha ha)
Anyhow, 10:30 and time for a bit QI. Wonder what Stephen's wearing tonight. Not a moustache I hope!

The days when actors were handsome He was truly gorgeous and a marvellous actor. I love old Hitchcock films, so Peck is one of my favourite actors

I read an article in the Radio Times about them remaking Yes Minister or Yes Prime Minister - can't remember which or if it was both. But I don't think this one will fly. The Jim Hacker role was written specifically for Paul Eddington. He and Nigel Hawthorne were a one in a million team. They played off one another amazingly well. I'm not sure they can capture that same magic with another two actors. I will watch though. *my two cents*
By the way, I love your new signature, missburlo!! ;D ;D

As much as I love Martin Clunes, that was just terrible. Channel 4 also has some good comedy Peep Show, The Inbetweeners, The IT Crowd and of course...Father Ted! cheers for the signature. Felt a boozy may was on the cards

OK Episodes staring Matt LeBlanc does not suck. How's that for a review? I loved the show Friends, couldn't get with Joey, and I think I'm liken' Episodes. This was something I didn't expect. If you can't see it in the UK but have access to Showtime or iplayer, give it a run. Not laugh out loud funny but a few giggles and snickers. I'm definitely looking forward to the next episode.
I'm also late to the party on this but in January Matt LeBlanc received his first Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an actor in a television series - comedy or musical. So other people don't think he sucks either.
BTW While I was watching the show I kept thinking why is this show just on in the UK? It would do well here on say, HBO. So I had a little look. It's not on HBO but on Showtime in the US (similar) and it's co-produced and distributed by Hat Trick prod. Remember Hat Trick? They distribute Man Lab for Plum Pictures. Distribution must be a small world.

Hat Trick produce really good programmes over here. "Have I Got News For You" is their main programme. Which I love. Mainly as I adore Paul Merton (and his many dodgy haircuts). He's a close runner up to James... (Yes, give me blue eyes and dodgy hair and I'm happy) Put them together and I'm well happy! James always looks sexy as when he's been on HIGNFY and sometimes quite boastful Oh James, you tease! back to the subject in hand (I am easily sidetracked) Hat Trick Also produced - Father Ted - Room 101 - Harry Enfield - Drop the Dead Donkey Yeah, they do cool shows!

I almost platzed when I saw that Gregory's Girl (1981) is on iplayer. I loved, loved the movie when I was 11-12 years old. I guess it was a tiny bit risque for a girl that young but I thought Gregory (John Gordon Sinclair) was brilliantly adorkable. I'm pretty sure I only watched it to watch him. Bill Forsyth, the writer and director of Gregory's Girl, also wrote and directed one my all time favorite movies, Local Hero. Actually saw that one in the theater when I was 12. Still love it and have made everyone I know watch it.
