Interesting - he says his original career aspirations were in "estate agency and personal finance".

Think it was in the magazine, because I remember that line, it was the last sentence of the article if my memory serves me well. I actually bought the mag for once, read the article and gave the mag to youngest who's quite into cars!

I love the picture too. He has the same minimalist attitude I have. I have a fruit juicer, electric cake mixer, and food blender I haven't used since I got them as wedding gifts that I want to get rid of. Otherwise, I don't like having a whole lot of "things" in my way at home. In another year or so, I would like to have a garage sale to get rid of some of the junk I've accumulated over the years. I can't do without cloths and shoes though. That's my biggest weakness when it comes to saving money. Sometimes, I'll see really nice work dresses or shirts and I end up buying at least one new outfit. Boots are my weakness as far as shoes go. I love them. As far as my driving habits go, I use common sense and good manners, but I do tend to go about five miles over the speed limit out of town sometimes. If someone is going slower than 50 in a 60 zone, I will overtake them, but I usually hover around the speed limit. It's very rare that I tailgate, since I hate when other people tailgate me.

I love this man's take on crap cars! I was the same when we had our old Talbot, I begged my father not to get rid of it and it just stood there in a garage for months just coz I didn't want it to go and I was crushed when my dad took it away anyway (YES I did cry....)

I was reading Hammond's book last night, so I have to ask... had you given the car a name? Apparently, that makes all the difference... Funnily enough, if I have either of the cars I'd really like when I eventually get on the road, I suspect I know what they'll end up being called. The Alfa is likely to be ComeoncomeoncomeonSTARTyouB*st*rd, while the Ford sounds likely to be OhcrapI'veputitinthehedgeAGAIN ;D

I've just got the shiny new TG magazine with the pretty new aston on the front and have read James column. He has been a back side passenger during the making of TV and the budget has been a bit tight. Also he has been doing 'functions'. He writes that most of the drivers couldn't drive. It varied from tight knuckle rides to just bad. He also viewed bad crunching of gears etc. And concludes Jeremy's answer of snipers on bridges would work. I have a separate thought. How about driving with someone who holds on tightly on all bends, suck the air through there teeth, basically a very nervous passenger. Mum wouldn't be a passenger whilst I was learning until I nearly passed. She's not a bad passenger but I was aware everything had to be smoothe. Dad was always the person to take me driving and I was taught to respect the machinery of the car. I also tend to adapt my driving style to whoever I'm driving. Sorry to ramble on

I adapt my driving style too MG. For instance, I drive the same as I usually do for my sis and my friends, but for mam and gma, I tend to go a lot slower. And keep both hands on the wheel at all times except for changing gears....

I adapt my driving too! If I'm in the mood and have absolutely no passengers and the road is empty-ish, I might drive emphatically!!! I admit to occasionally enjoying seeing boy racers left standing at the lights by an ageing woman!
My daughter has driven quite confidently and what I might call quite wildly even before she passed her test. She didn't think I had it in me to drive similarly till the last time she was home. She was surprised as she had thought I was a tame old woman! ;D

Boy racers........I have a story to tell, at the lights I rather like revving up the engine and then watching then shoot off though a red light (only when it is safe )......sorry but it's such fun ;D

Yes or making them think you are going to race and then not bothering!

I was pulled up at the lights next to an older model 911 driven by the "boy racer" type. Open road, no other traffic. According to my pasenger, the look on his face as the middle aged woman in the Buick SUV shot off ahead of him was priceless. Maybe we should form a racing league? ;D

Maybe we should, open only to those of a certain age with a predisposition for shaming boy racers at the lights! ;D

Ok, but I should be an exception, cause I'm not a boy racer, I'm a girl racer, and I enjoy showing boy racers up. Especially when they think I'm a timid little girl.
And plus, my first 4 initials are in it, init ;D

Well spotted Vix! When I first suggested the age group I was aware that it was discriminating in the nicest possible way! Sure we would welcome you! Perhaps we should amend it to encompass all age groups - Females Against Boy Racers In Cars ? Stating the obvious but it makes a nice acronym!
