Dit and Meim, many congratulations on each finding positions that fit your strengths like a glove! The mental stimulus should bring as much pleasure as the financial rewards. Best of luck on (each of) your new ventures; you're going to do wonderful things!

Beth is sitting up on her own, and I do believe she'll be crawling soon. She has this habit of getting up on hands and knees and bobbing back and forth like a mad thing ;D She weighs nearly 20 lb now.....my poor back!

Glad to hear the update on young Beth. The time will pass all too soon, and before you know it she will be starting school. I think 18 months onward is the most interesting time in a child's development - they learn so much, and are interesting little people.

Thanks for the update Daisy. Very cute age! Don't suppose we could have a piccie? Please?? Pretty please?? I'm trying to work on this ;D my 'puter skills being small, and the added difficulty of not actually having any of the pictures on my 'puter because the USB port is dead. If I figure it out, I shall bung 'em in the Picture thread.

I'm just recovering from my first twelve hour (twelve hour!) stint as a 'background artiste' on Coronation Street.
Things have moved very fast. I went for my meeting/audition a fortnight ago, I was put up for a part in Emmerdale (sorry non-UKers if these don't make sense to you) last Thursday, didn't get it but was phoned on Monday for a definite Corrie today (Friday). The only problem is I can't say much about it as it's a secret storyline (There was even a papparazzi taking pics with a huge long lens). All I'm allowed to say is:
It was on location In a public place It involved some ot the main characters
I thought it was going to be a bit grim (up at 4.45am, yes, me! for a 7am call), terrible weather on the motorways, sat in a 'holding bay' room for an hour then on a minibus for half and hour. Taken to a 'waiting room' - but then it improved. "Who would like to be in the first scene?" My arm went up like a rocket.
Worked for two hours then sat for an hour while half the group did something else. Lunch was brilliant - I'd heard amazing things about the catering truck and they were right! Sat in the waiting room for an hour then was working for about five hours in two different scenes, mainly walking about (repeatedly, and I have a silly reference for the Clone Sanctuary!) but also called back for some specific background work and even a relative close-up - the sort of thing where there's someone talking in the foreground but fuzzy (me and a nice bloke) while the focus is on the real actors a little further away).
Of course, all of my stuff might be cutting-room-floor material, but a bit may well sneak though. At the mo I don't know when it'll be on, nor whether I'll ever know beforehand, but if you see a scene (probably in about six weeks) with a big woman wearing a blue jacket and with long fair hair wandering in the background, that's me!
It's a small thing really but something I always hoped I could do one day (bucket list) and I met some interesting and lovely people (and some complete egomanic prats, but they were in the minority. And in the extras, not the main actors!). I now await my next job.
Sorry if this is long, but some of you did ask for details!

That's brilliant Dit! I'm very interested in how these things work. Here's hoping something else comes along soon. PS: Am I the only person on earth to have never seen an epi of Coronation Street? It's possible.

Congratulations, Dit! What a fabulous experience! I hope you'll know what episode it will be & when it's airing. I'll make a point to 'borrow' that one! ;D ;D And no jm 2, you're not the only one to not have seen Corrie. All I've ever seen is the occasional clip during an interview.

OK - I'm clueless. Short pause while you all chorus "no no, Amie8, you're just an original thinker!"
No? Please yourselves...
I thought you went for your meeting at the Media Centre in Salford, which I thought was the BBC's new base. So how do you go from that to working for Granada and (nearly) for YTV? Back in the days when I worked in broadcasting (for ITV), it was a case of never the twain shall meet. I know they all collaborate on the commercial side these days, but I'm confused as to how it works, and - as an ex media tart - genuinely interested. Do tell.
I don't watch Corrie, unfortunately, because I don't watch soaps, but if I had to watch one, that is the one I'd choose. It's been sadly dragged down the route of having a tragedy and a cliffhanger every week but, once upon a time, it was a work of sheer genius. It's still a million times better than Eastenders - and I'm an Eastender so no regional bias.
Anyway Dit, glad it all came together for you, and if you get wind of when your big moment is due, I'll endeavour to catch it.

Well done! This could be the start of something big........! It's excellent experience and good to put on your CV I suspect. I don't watch soaps either, so please tell us when you're likely to appear, although Mr Crumbs will wonder what's got into me.

Ah, amie8, it was Media City I went to, not the Media Centre, which is BBC. I went to a meeting at a building that houses various agencies to meet with an agent who specifically places people as 'extras' (not supposed to use that word apparently, which is a bit precious really). The agent then gets you any work which is going, which is why there were potential offers from YTV and Granada. Sorry if I didn't explain that clearly enough.
Of course I'm inordinately excited about the whole thing at the moment as it's so new to me, and I'm hoping for more and varied work in the future. Odd to think that all the work that dozens of people put in yesterday amounts to a handful of scenes that will probably take up no more than five minutes on screen. Thanks for all your good wishes, it's a tick on my bucket list but one that is so interesting, to watch the process in all its complications.
I'll shut up about it now!

PS: Am I the only person on earth to have never seen an epi of Coronation Street? It's possible. I haven't either. And I don't think my library even carries it on DVD. Seems everything else British ends up there, which is how I fed my Doctor Who obsession at first. (then gave in and bought the seasons myself) Dit, that is so cool! I've got two friends trying to make it in Hollywood, they've had a little luck with commercials and extra parts, but oh gosh it's not easy. Here's hoping more comes your way in the future! (heehee, resets...)

Well done, Dit! I'm fascinated to hear of your exciting work on such a well-established soap. It couldn't have happened to a better person ;D I've never seen an episode of Corrie over here (waving at you, JM2) so if your scenes do come up would you be able to post some screencaps?

'My ' Corrie episode was on tonight! I hadn't known when it would be transmitted, but took a guess last Friday, thought the storyline was heading that way, confirmed it on Monday then recorded it tonight (I was at the theatre).
To be honest, as I expected I was mainly a distant blur, though anyone who knew me and had known I was on would have spotted me immediately. I did have a couple of closer moments walking behind the characters as they were in closeup, and the best bit was in a cafe where I was right at the front of the shot for a few seconds, then the camera panned past me to the conversation on the next table. So it was only a couple of minutes of 'fame' but I really enjoyed doing it. I'll try and pick up a couple of blurry screencaps!
I haven't had a job since, though the agent has offered me two I couldn't do, and has put me up for a commercial I didn't get. He's promise me more work, so I'll just have to wait and see!
