I realised I hadn't commented on the interview *slaps wrist*
It was definitely an interesting interview and James was on top form. Simon Mayo is always a good listen.
As already mentioned, in great detail, the chap really is that, a private chap who happens to stumble onto the TV a few weeks of the year. The daft berk is too nice and too much of a gentleman to say 'No' even if something makes him want to crawl out of his skin backwards. Leave him alone with his pint and crossword.
Even writing this makes me bad/sad/mad that anyone could create such intrusion.

It is bad that people would do that. I used to work in a bookshop some years ago, and one day, a TV presenter (not going to say who) was in the shop, with their daughter, buying books, and one plonker practically cornered said presenter and started yakking, getting out a bit of paper for an autograph, etc etc. Poor presenter was slightly harrassed-looking by the time they got to the cashdesk to buy the books. And they had their child with them too......I think that would say to most people - I'm out shopping with my daughter, leave me alone. Not that time tho. It's different if the celebrity in question is making an official appearance - they'd expect all the fuss then. But EVERYBODY deserves some downtime.

*nods* I've seen that happen to Jezza while he's doing his shopping and he has his children with him, and I've seen Jeremy and Richard get bothered by a group of (female) autograph hunters while dining in a restaurant, and see Kate Moss and her small daughter be chased through a supposedly secluded Oxfordshire village by a man with a massive camera shouting at her about her drug problem.
Which I why I am so against people harrassing anyone, and why I feel everyone (including those of us who are not famous...) should be left alone and allowed to get on with our lives without bothering others or being bothered.
I'm not going to say any more on this topic. You all know my feelings towards James. However, I have had three emails overnight - one supporting me on my views as given above, and two accusing me of being (I quote) a 'hypocrite', 'a freak' and a 'stalkerish b*tch'. Which is nice.

And again it's harrassment. I can't believe people could do such things! I'm telling you, it's insanity!

You all know my views......and they maybe different, but please no harassment of other members. Debate is good.....our rules are quiet clearly set and we ask our members to keep to them, not hard really.

I replied... and I gave as good as I got, don't worry (as did Kate Moss after the incident described above... I never knew such an innocent face could produce such a vitriol of filth...)

Well perhaps the members who sent those PMs would like to leave this Board, as there is no room for them on here.

I agree, people are entitled to a private life and should be left alone to enjoy themselves. I can't imagune that anyone could properly enjoy owning an autograph knowing that the famous person didn't want to give it.
Personally, I wouldn't have the courage to approach anyone I truly loved and was a fan of, I would be too scared. If you happen to make eye contact with someone, waving and smiling at them or saying a passing hello would be fine, I think, or if they approached you (unlikely) and started a conversation, fair enough also, but to deliberately go out of your way to invade soneone's privacy like that doesn't sit well with me.

Me either. I totally agree with yall. No one should have their privacy invaded or be hassled when they're minding their own business. It's totally unfair and invasive. From experience, a few years ago (I mentioned it on another thread here), I saw Daniel Radcliff when family and I were having a picnic in one of the London parks a few years ago. None of us bothered him, since he seemed to want some alone time and all I did was notice him looking at us a few times while he was sitting in his lawn chair. We just carried on eating and I didn't say anything until we were back home.

Funny what is classed as intrusion and the like. Lucky James' comment wasn't more stern sounding; I'd have been far more worried if so

Just listened to this (thanks MG). The exact same thing with the cider happened to me when I was young. Even after all these years, the thought of cider still makes me feel ill . However, . Regarding the person who turned up at his local – it didn’t necessarily have to be some kind of crazed, love struck, stalker-type woman. It could’ve been some kind of crazed, (possibly love struck?), stalker-type petrolhead fanboi. Either way, it crossed a line and is really not on. [pedant] Also, I hope that Mr May won’t be referring to the Moon as a planet in his upcoming programme (like he did in 20thC). The Moon is a moon! [/pedant] Its funny you should say that since he did mention once that people come to him to ask about cars in the pub all the time. To be honest, after a weekend like that, it wouldnt shock me either!

James doesn't do stern in public. It's a line that's been stepped over and that is indeed sad.

I'm sorry but I have to say this, I can hold it in no longer:
Tears for Fears' "Songs from the Big Chair" was released in 1985 and The Smiths' "The Queen is Dead" was released in June 1986, contrary to what was said on Mr. Mayo's programme.
OK, I feel better now - thanks everyone. It was really bothering me.
Back to Mayo: that's hilarious how James tells people he's a gynecologist. I wonder if he saw the "Dream Gynecologist" photo in our "1001 Uses for James May" thread. Then again, it's probably just so people won't ask him questions about his work.

I'd be more concerned if he was doing an examination with a spanner.
