In the midst of it all there is the figure of May, having the time of his life and clearly unable to believe his luck.
I can just imagine James in that plane thinking: "I'm getting paid to do this, I'm actually getting paid to do this." ;D

Lucky sod indeed. What I would give for a job that allowed me pretty much free rein to do things that I love to do, and be paid for it.

And James pretty much fell into it. His guardian angel is a gem.

Alert!! According to "TV Mole" on FinalGear theBBC have announced that the programme will be shown sometime in the week of 20-26 June, so keep your eyes on the BBC2 schedules. It's going to be TWO PROGRAMMES!!!!!! www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/tv/2009/wk25/I'll be in Scotland during that week, so I'm hoping to be able to catch it at the B&B we're staying at that week.

I flew to the US around 13 years ago when I was a kid, and this was before the imminent threat of terrorism and bulletproof cabin doors on planes . Fortunately I have family who were Qantas flight attendants on that flight - they got me into the cockpit of a plane flying over the Pacific (actually, we flew over Hawaii when I was up there) and it genuinely is something I can remember like a photo... the sun on the left setting, night time on the right and the seriously curved horizon. I wish I had a camera at the time. It was genuinely breathtaking. So if James is saying going up twice as high as that (I believe 747s fly around 40k ft at cruising altitude over the Pacific...) changed his life, I wouldn't doubt that for a second. Isn't it great? It's breathtaking, getting to see what the pilots and navigational officers take for granted everyday. I did that too, in 1991 from Alaska to Japan. When we got closer to Japan, one of the cabin crew asked me if I'd like to ride up in the cockpit until we landed. I wasn't prepared for what I was about to see. It was a very clear day and we were still over the Pacific when I entered with him. I saw another airplane ahead of us and the top of Mt. Fuji just above some clouds before we landed. It was breath-taking and an experience I'll never forget.

You're so lucky! I love flying. A friend of mine once tried to get her brother and me to start dating. I realized though that the only reason I was interested in him was that he had a light aircraft pilot's license. ;D
By the way, I just saw that the second episode will air on BBC4. I'll download it then, but would these programmes normally find its way to BBC2?

It was great fun. When you were dating, did he let you have a try at using the controls? That's very exciting. Normally, and most of the time, alot of his solo shows usually end up on BBC2, but since they're listing both channels, we'll have to see when the time comes. I'm just hoping they'll be showing this in the evenings. *fingers crossed*

Yes, Google has certainly enlightened me to many a thing over the years, not all of it good.

like not looking up diseases or potentially self diagnosis and self restraint is important.
Bit like checking if it's ok not to feel blood moving around your feet or if you can't feel your ears.

This was in my TV Guide today that came with The Sun newspaper. No new news or picture but I thought you might want to see it anyway.

Ah, some early publicity! It might be worth keeping our eyes on the BBC guestlist for the coming weeks and on the RadioTimes and such.

"Hairy Top Gear Toff" My, they do have a way with words. I've only just noticed this thread (being the good fan that I am) and was stunned to see that he actually goes out into space! He doesn't look too bad in that uniform either *smirk*

Looks like I will have to wait until I get home to see that, I clicked on it and got 'An error occured, please try later'. Idiots.

Just try again later. Works fine for me. The weird thing is that the BBC didn't block this video for people outside the UK. I already downloaded it in case they change their minds later on.

Well I am on a PC in the library at the moment and they are notorious for being complicated and difficult. Thanks for finding the link though.
