Here's my bit of news for the day: May will be crossing his moving meccano bridge this Sunday, 5 July, at the Pier Head (sorry about the vague place references I posted earlier). The event is open to the public, and free, from 1:30 to 5:00pm. There's more information here: www.merseytravel.gov.uk/eventdetails.asp?eventid=95

I know! I just can't believe that a) it's a confirmed official event, b) I've been given notice and c) it's not on a work day! ;D No more hopping across the Mersey on wild goose chases anymore!
I shall take plenty of pics! ;D

Jinx it? If you have a checklist, and have all your things in place, I am sure you will be fine. Checklist as in camera, batteries, bus/train timetables if you need them things like that.

Someone posted this on FG. Sorry, it isnt this sunday, its a week on sunday. Been postponed for a week... We have had no end of problems, Meccano in france not sending the correct parts for weeks and then not sending enough and the engineering firm Atkins changing the plans halfway through the build.. We have just exhausted the entire stock of nuts, and think we have used 41,000 of them so far and over £36,000 of meccano parts... We dont have enough people, the Meccano clubs are next to useless.. The Newcastle group esp is a waste of space.. The made two sections to 'help' and turned up on monday all smug saying how they had saved the day, when in reality what they built was wrong. His '40' years of meccano experience was c**p then... Plus James said on camera that what they did was rubbish!! We have been working on this for 5 weeks, working 9am till 9pm and Im cream crackered... One more week to go.. By the way when the program is on tv and James says how relaxing and rewarding Meccano is, its because he turns up for a few hours filming and the skives off again.. Very nice guy though

Oh dear, that's not good. So much for all the experienced Meccano people. Poor James and the poor people who have to try to get it right.

lucy reappears, embarrassed. Sorry to get everyone's hopes up. Plum called for more volunteers on 30 June and it looked like they'd got it sorted. If the Final Gear mole is to believed, that's very far from the truth. Still, fingers crossed for the 12th, eh? If anybody wants to ensure that the Lego house project runs more smoothly, they can apply for the position of site manager here: guildford.gumtree.com/guildford/28/41211728.html

Liz: maybe you call in to see if they still need volunteers during this weekend? (Not sure if James would be there though.) Hope you are free to go the next weekend as well. And so the Lego house will be build at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking, Surrey. I wonder if Oz had anyhting to do with that. ;D

It's as well that there wasn't a specific time that the bridge had to be finished, isn't it? Mind you, if there had been, maybe people would have been better organised and got the job done properly in the first place.

Should have asked us on here, I'm sure us ladies would have done an excellent job, offered us a bit of bribery and corruption, and I'd have dragged my boys there too seeing as they played with the stuff ;D job done.

But I haven't got the energy to rush off to Dorking (LOL) to make a house. The organisation for these things has been bonkers. If I was to be given a loud hailer and many cups of tea and a hi viz jacket I may reconsider

I could make it to Dorking ;D but my skills with Lego aren't brill. I think I shall wait to see if they want any bog-standard builders - if so, I will be IN there

I could too but my patience and energy levels have seriously depleted. Any bonkers people going I wish them well but be prepared for slave labour and lego proof boots.

Those would be a must *winces* No ballet slippers there - or indeed my spiked trainers. I dragged them from the shoe cupboard the other day - still there is plasticine embedded in the gaps between the spikes ;D
