Breaking news about a new programme by James! This is not the science programme he was talking about. A new BBC engineering series starring James May is looking for architects and engineers to help create large scale projects from toys like LEGO and Meccano Plum Pictures has been commissioned to make a major six part engineering series for BBC2 in which James May will undertake massive structural feats using toy building materials such as Lego and Meccano. Read more hereAre any of us architects or engineers? I'd sign up straight away, but alas I'm neither. By the time we know what's it called, the mods can hopefully change the title of this thread.

;D But in all seriousness that sounds like an amazing project to be involved in. Mum (being mum) has suggested architecture/engineering as something I should go into . I'm sure the production team will get the right people to make a fantastic series. Lego, meccano and plasticine. Hmmmm

This sounds wonderful. Very original and the perfect project for James giving his love for toys and all things techy.

I thought there was somthing James was doing apart from the moon documentary. He might have already done some filming. I read somewhere maybe TG mag I think it was, that he was working on a low budget programme & spent a lot of time being a passenger in the back seat of cars. I wonder if that is for this programme. Just a theory.

Just a theory. He mentioned that in a Torygraph column, but already quite a while ago and he was referring to the Big Ideas series then. About this programme being low budget, I have bought Lego for my nephew in the past and I shudder to think what those two million pieces would cost.

This is great! Thanks for finding this info, Linden. The three of us are Lego maniac, although my husband and son are bigger ones than me. We'd be glad to help. Scarey but exciting thought. We'll be at Legoland during son's B-day in Sept. OMG!

I've always said that if I'd have stayed on at school and done A Levels, I might be a world famous architect by now! Anyone got a time machine I can borrow and go back & have a word with myself?
I do still have all my old Lego (and some of my Brother's, that my nephews keep trying to get off me!) and some of it it built into a replica of my Ex's house! Maybe I should re-build it into my house now... And yes, it dows have some very odd bits here & there where I ran out of the right bits!

Maybe we can think of some more building materials in case we can inspire the programme makers. So, they've mentioned lego, meccano, plasticine...what else is there???

I think my friend from school used to make jewellery out of that stuff. We'd put in our requests for what we wanted and she'd just go away and make it. Very arty she was!
