James is so good at these programmes. His sisters are great too. The joy on his face when he blew up that tree house. ;D

Loved it! His sisters seem ever so nice and there were just too many great little moments to mention. The only toy I instantly remembered was the Spirograph thing. I loved it. I am off to the parental home tomorrow for Christmas and I'll see if I can find it in the attic somewhere.

I don't remember the Spirograph or Fuzzyfelt and i'm of the right age. His grin after he'd blown up the tree-house i thought was gorgeous. Sorry any former tree-house owners . The Cinderella Ladybook took me back, though. Sigh. Peter and Jane. Sigh. I remember the dog in that being a red setter but what was its name?

I really hope the BBC wil let James do a programme about music one day in whatrever form. I have a feeling it is a subject as close to his heart as cars are.

Oh yes the Fuzzy animation ;D. That actually got me thinking James could be the new Oliver Postgate I would love to see James present a programme to do with music

On the childhood hero front I worship the ground Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin walk on. Does anyone else remember Tottie? I was thinking about it when James was talking about the dolls houses.

It was a bit traumatic one of the dolls was burnt to death. This is all very new to me. Was this a programme? Did the doll get burnt in one of the stories or something?

Yep it was a smallfilms one, it think it was also called The Story of a Dolls House.
There was a little family of dolls that's Apple the wee one and Birdie in the picture and they all lived together in the dolly house and hoped that their owners would be nice and play with them but then the owners got another doll called Marchpane who was evil and set a trap, that caused a fire that trapped Apple so Birdie rescued him but whatever she was made of burned quickly and she died. All very upsetting when your 8.

All very upsetting when your 8. Have googled it & seems it was shown around the mid 80s so i must have missed it being in work. Yes, traumatic for 8 yr olds but then look at the fairy-tales we used to read with wolves cross dressing in the clothes of the recently consumed granny or little boys being fatted up for consumption by old women living in edible building structures.

it's a scene that's always stuck in my mind the poor dolly with all the flames, it's also one of those ones that not many people remember probably a bit too dark for countless repeats. I like the gothic of fairytales I went to a really interesting exhibition about it in London last year I think it was in the national gallery, they had a magic lantern show as well

James doesn't like pink - I love him even more!!!!!
I remember the same frustration with Spirograph - that & the fact I had actually asked for a Spiromatic! I had Fuzzy Felt when I was little then got back into it when I was 12 for some reason. What a brill program. it worked really well having his sisters tell their side as well. Loved their revenge at the end!

What a great programme!!! ;D The look on his face when he detonated the Treehouse! Also, I loved the idea of him playing 'Ode to Joy' on something he hated so much! That really was a trip down Memory Lane for me. When I was young, I had Fuzzy Felt, Sindy, Barbie, loads of Ladybird books, and even an old Spirograph that used to belong to my mum and my aunt. I have to confess that I was a very girly girl, and LOVED pink! James would've hated me as a kid! ;D

I loved the show last night. So funny! It really made me see how really hidious and wrong some of the toys were! I was lucky enough to own most of those toys as I had some very lovely older cousins who passed them down to me I was a massive Barbie fan as a child though. Although my Barbie was mega cool as she had a Ferrari Spider to drive in I still have my spirograph and I still use it! Why couldn't James come to my art college?! I'm excellent on the spirograph!

I'd reccomend making some crispy crunchie cakes, the recipe of which is available in this classic ladybird book Kept us occupied for ages, the main joy being getting to eat the still warm leftovers in the bowl after you'd made them

I have a theory that some of the programme was filmed near or in his house but I'll have to watch it again to make sure and let you know why I think that. Goodness, the hardship...

It was his house look at the stairs in the storyboard bit lemon and orange, well in black and white. Plus the piano in the background with his sisters.

And the Koo Stark lamp in the background.
Can they not afford a studio? Or is James too lazy to leave his house? ;D
