I was just thinking...how do you think they got all their wine home? I can't imagine shipping is very delicate or inexpensive. I guess they probably don't care about expense but it would factor into what each bottle costs. Would it be worth it for some of those wines? What about import? How much liquor can you bring into the UK without import problems? It's a good thing they didn't leave California with an RV full of wine. I'm sure they were warned about bootlegging. I grew up near a state line. We were always careful about buying and then driving home. Thank goodness we weren't in a dry county. Technically, you can bring in as much wine to the UK as you like for personal use, but over a couple of litres you have to pay duty and tax on it. And yes, shipping would probably cost a fortune but there are specialist companies who can get it from country to country safely enough. Alternatively, they could have just added it to the couple of tons of luggage and equipment they were probably flying home from the shoot. Dry counties? Are there such things? I kinda thought they probably did send it with the luggage and equipment. Just wondered how much made it safely and was it worth the potential shipping and tax they had to spend. Must be some damn good wine. Yup, 10% of the US is still "dry". Prohibition hang over. Most of the counties are in the south but not all. When I was growing up, the state neighboring mine was mostly "wet" but it was still illegal to sell alcohol on Sundays.

Aw, I was waiting (I've got a bit of a backlog) to post that pic where his feet are being hosed, I think it's really cute - and I don't use that word very often, about anything!

There are some pictures that just reach in and squeeze your heart, and that's one of them. How does he manage to be so effortlessly beautiful?

I've just found this; may have been knocking about on here but I've certainly not seen it before. It's very enlightening, and also answers the question of what kind of a drunk James is! (Happy, basically, "full of bonhomie") www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBsVQu2lcQo&feature=relatedNot available in my country. Bum

Dit posted this very cute short interview with James earlier in this thread. I think I've worked out the connection kinks (regional encoding). Enjoy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9GCwGzZPK8

Adrianmay, any idea which episode those pics were from? It was the episode of France wine trip where James made his own wine on the side of the road, his Chateau Jaguar. I don't think the hosing off was in the episode but, who knows. Maybe it was a blink of the eye. I'm sure you were asking for the Epi. # which a can't remember at the moment and I'm running out the door to my mothers. Maybe you-tube can get you closer.

I like the first picture where you can see those horrendous old desert boots he used to wear for absolutely everything until they (presumably) finally fell to bits.

I don't know if anyone's interested but, this is the rest (top half) of the photo a few posts above. Sorry Oz, I cropped you out for the most part. Isn't he cute with rolled up jeans and a shirt that actually fits. Kinda' Huck Finn, sigh.

His feet look massive in that photo. ;D The first episode aired here last night. So glad I didn't miss it this time around (I think it was on last year). Many treasures to be found!!! And I haven't laughed like that for a while, either. I had seen it a while ago on YouTube but didn't really noticed James' sarcasm at the time, or at least wasn't that amused to remember it. Whether he was genuinely p****d off or was simply acting for the camera, it was very effective. ;D

After seeing a bit of Drink To Britain, I decided to down*cough*load*cough this series. The part where they're making wine of a pig made me real sad, even though I didn't hear anything of it; only saw parts of it while FF the video, trying to skip asap and to continue watching after that horrible scene. However......... I want that series on DVD ;D Good thing it's my birthday in less than a month (A)

You mean the scene where Oz tests the pork scratchings? That's the only scene that involved pigs, as far as I can remember.

I just remembered another pig scene: the one in which the pigs ate all the yummy cider apples! (Pigs looked pretty yummy as well.) No wine making involved here either.

lol, I dont mind if the pigs ate the yummy cider apples! How can you say a living pig looks yummy?!! Afar, sorry, I was wrong; I've seen too little to be able to see it right. I thought they were going to use the pig for the wine: I've heard wine isnt vegetarian.

I believe they were butchering the pig for a meal and the butchering was kind of a communal process and if you were visiting (as Oz and James were) you were expected to help out. nat - wine isn't vegetarian? The only reason I could think of is that sometimes in some wine chemicals are added to stabilize the wine and kind of preserve it. That would make it non organic I suppose. But other than that I can't think of why wine wouldn't be ok for vegetarians.

Oops. I thought we were talking about Drinks To Britain. That's where the two scenes I mentioned earlier were from. Aeromanda is right, there was a scene were Oz' brother's neighbours butchered a pig. Well, I guess it had a much better life than most pigs have.

You can buy vegi wine.I think they use in some kind of enzyme from a fish in some wines, though I could be wrong.

This is the best explanation I've found.
"Wine is made from grapes as we all know; however, to improve wines' clarity they usually undergo a process called "fining". Fining can be as simple as letting nature take its course through gravity. This takes time and is not favoured commercially. Therefore, fining agents are commonly used.
Fining agents used in the production of wine include....
bentonite gelatine enolophin/kieselsol chitosan casein polyclar egg albumen isinglass carbon sparkolloid
The following fining agents are derived from animal / fish products:
Gelatine 100% animal derived gelatine. Produced from cooking / controlled partial hydrolysis of fibrous insoluble protein collagen found in bone, tendons, skin and connective tissue.
Albumen Egg whites, usually dried or frozen.
Casein Is sodium or potassium caseinate which is the primary protein in milk. Both are obtained through the precipitating action of acid on milk.
Isinglass Made up of collagen fibres derived from the air bladders of certain fish, usually the swim bladder of the sturgeon.
Chitosan Derived from the shells of shellfish and crustaceans."
Doesn't stop me drinking it! Finings are left in the bottom of the vat when wine is bottled. It is possible to get veggie wines, though.
