Our new kitten's name is Hemmie. (I'll explain in a minute.) We've had him for five days now and he has fit in very well with our other cats. He's oblivious to the fact that two of our cats want nothing to do with him and dislike him even though they don't do anything to him. He chases them around and tries to play with them. One of our cats is completely indifferent to him. And the cat that we got this time last year as a kitten is still young enough to enjoy having a kitten around. They play a lot. I have wanted an orange kitten since our orange cat died. When we went to the Hemmingway house in Key West we saw a lot of polydactal cats. (They have extra toes in the front - it's genetic.) Once I saw them I told my husband I wanted an orange polydactal cat, never expecting to get one. So when I saw him at the store and saw that he was polydactal I knew it was meant to be. We named him Hemmie after Hemmingway since he had a liking for cats; polydactal cats in particular. They were considered lucky. As promised here are some pictures of him. Here he is on the computer - he fell asleep while watching Top Gear: Here he is climbing on the couch: Here he is asleep on my leg: And here is a close up of one of his paws. He has three extra fingers on each of his front paws:

Now just what do you think she's up to there? Something wholesome and not at all naughty in any way, shape, or form? Yep. She's plotting evil. Trolling if nothing else. ;D

Innocent my behind! I think some of my cats have morphed into dogs. I have yogurt for breakfast every morning and I have always shared this with my cat Valmont. With the possible exception of tuna, my morning yogurt was the only people food that ever interested him. Since we got Hemmie things have changed drastically. Hemmie is a fiend for people food. Whenever I have something to eat, Hemmie shows up to see if he wants any. This behavior has rubbed off onto Valmont who has discovered that he likes people food. Mysteriously, our cat Epi, who is 16, and never for a day in her life begged for people food, has become a begging monster! Now, whenever I eat anything, I have three cats up in my face trying to sample what I'm eating. Today, Hemmie took a piece of lettuce out of my salad. I know I shouldn't encourage them by sharing with them at all but what am I going to do? They are much more persistent than my dogs ever were and much more "in your face" with their begging. The rotten little buggers. It is a good thing for them that I love them!

A bit back, I had a raw vegetable and hummus wrap for lunch. I got a bit distracted, and the next thing I knew, Summer was licking the hummus out of the middle...

"Who, me???" N'aaaw. She is a very Special Cat, isn't she? ;D Mum's/my cat is also being Special right now. She knows full well that Mum can't use her left arm, so she's taken to sleeping on the left side of the bed, from where she cannot be removed at night *bad cat* The amount of hair, garden detritus and muddy paw prints on *her* side of the bed really has to be seen to be fully appreciated......I don't appreciate it at all, as it means the bedding has to be changed and washed twice a week now. By me, naturally

I had to make a mad dash to the vet's office on Thursday. At lunch time that day, my Thorin went in to his commode eight times trying to pee. He didn't leave a drop. I was worried that he had a blockage, but he wasn't in any pain. So I called the vet and they told me to bring him in asap. After much manipulation and two failed attempts at getting urine through a syringe in his bladder, we finally managed to get a sample from him. They did all their fancy tests, and he didn't have a blockage He had an inflammation of the walls of his bladder. Thank goodness!! He got two shots, and they sent us home. Very relieved! *Big Sigh*

Has Thorin been "relieved" since? I do hope so! It's rotten when they can't tell you what's wrong and you have to watch over them.
I don't know what's in those shots that vets give, but I sometimes wish I could get one - they always seem to do the trick.

Thorin is peeing regularly now, but sometimes he still feels like he has to go frequently. It may take up to 7 days for him to be completely back to normal. I wouldn't mind one of those special shots now and then either. ;D

He's much better. Thanks! He was fine on Friday, spent a few hours wandering back and forth to his litter box on Saturday and has been right as rain ever since! ;D
I called the vet today and gave them an update on him. They were pretty happy. ;D

Strangely enough, they actual like wearing it. They get irritated when I take it off. I bought a little red cape as well, but I don't have any good pics of that one yet. ;D ;D ;D

Fab pics of your boys, DMC!
I thought I was finally losing my old lady Chloe (17) last week, as she went very quiet and sleepy as soon as the weather went cold. She was diagnosed with liver failure over 12 months ago and is now very thin (though she doesn't look it as she has a fluffy, thick coat) and everyone's amazed she's still with us.
However, the last couple of days she seems to have picked up a bit (fingers crossed) and has been eating my floral arrangement and sitting out in the rain (which she loves) just as normal, so I'm really hoping she'll be around for a bit longer.

We've recently got a new member of the family.. He was a stray, and has been around for a few years. The last year he has become good friends with all our cats, and slowly relied more and more on humans. My mother started feeding him when she found out that he didn't have a home, and now he has moved in completely. Everyone at the JMB, meet our new, fluffy hairball:He is very sweet and kind, and loves attention. I have never felt softer fur on a cat, and he is really huge and heavy! He hasn't got a name yet, since my mother is really picky when it comes to names. She want a strong name, something Norwegian or Norse. I think it's going to be either Balder, Hårek or Odin.. Time will show! Meanwhile, I think he's just happy to have a home. He sleeps in our basement most of the day, but comes up to cuddle every now and then. (I apologize for the copyright mark, by the way.. It's the same images that I used on my blog a while ago

Aww Silje, what a handsome kitty. Isn't it hard to believe that such a sweet kitty could be a stray?! Good job you for taking him in...or maybe it is closer to say for letting him move in.
