Unfortunately if I owned that kitten I would sneeze and wheeze. I'm allergic to anything with fur or feathers.

Cool cats, Wy. My fella and his housemates now have a feline resident at their place, courtesy of a friend of theirs who had to rehome him. He's a big ginger tom called Steve. Here he is:- Attachments:

Thank you ladies. They are my beautiful boys, just like having children! They are cheaper and quieter than children though! ;D

If you could see my pet insurance bills you wouldn't say "cheaper"! I must see if there's a cheaper tariff - I couldn't not have insurance, if you see what I mean, as it's tempting fate, but all 3 are getting on a bit (1x15 years old, 2x9) and it costs me the earth every month.

So far, my guys have been reasonably healthy. Of course they are only 5 years old; six in April. They get their shots and check-ups once a year. Other than food, treats and the occasional un-played with toy, that's about it. Hopefully it will stay that way for many years to come!

My two have dodgy teeth so they have to have expensive "toothpaste" cat munchies and one of them is a bit prone to upset tummies. It's still much cheaper than kids though! No Nintendos, no keeping up with the latest fashions, no pocket money, no University fees...

Oh you people have such beautiful kitties, I envy you all. *sigh* At the moment we're kittyless and I'm not sure when we going to have one again. Hubby seems to be more reluctant than me to get a new cat. And it's difficult even for me to think of a new family member to replace Cassius. It seems like a heresy, we both loved him so very much. This is Cassius the Cat (April 5, 1992 - August 28, 2009) on his 17th birthday on April 5th last year. He lived with us for seventeen years and two months. He didn't have a tail because he was a Manx.

All of these fur babies are beautiful. I miss my Merlin, but I know my ex is taking good care of him, and MF's cats make it easier too. They're so funny - one of them has decided she's scared of electrical plugs at the moment... not the wall sockets, those are no problem, but if you happen to carry an electrical appliance with the cable dangling, she gets very upset and starts hissing at it!

Not that either of us would deliberately dangle a plug while she was around of course...

I had an interesting time with a Manx once. I was at a farm house helping MOH fix a dryer. I leaned my elbow and arm up on a box. Before I knew it, a Manx climbed out of his end of the box and came over to lie on my arm. He was a beautiful gray tabby! When it was time to go, I had to extract myself by gently sliding him away and my arm out. No amount of prodding would get him to move of his own accord. He was perfectly content to fall asleep on a stranger's arm! Loved it! ;D

Thanks, devil-may-care. Your encounter with the gray tabby Manx was truly lovely. It's a wonderful feeling when you suddenly bond with a strange animal like that, I know it from my own experiences. Our Cassius was a true Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde type. Whenever things didn't go his way and fast enough, he was quick to put his claws and teeth in good use - he's been gone for six months now but I have scratch marks still visible on my arms! On the other hand, there's never been a more affectionate and loving cat than Cassius who often insisted on coming to sleep on the lap and purred happily away for a long time never seeming to want to jump off not caring if we had time to hold him or not. He also slept his nights in our bed between my husband and I. I can never again wake up in the night to find Cassius lying against my shoulder purring and it makes me so sad... Fortunately I have a friend and neighbor who has four cats the youngest of whom was neutered last week at the age of eight months. Whenever I feel kitty-deprived I go and see those cats. One of them looks like Cassius with a tail (but much larger) so sometimes the visit feels somewhat bittersweet. I love the four of them to bits though. In this picture taken about a year ago Cassius is coming down the stairs and my friend's cat Manu is coming up to meet him. They looked alike a lot, didn't they?

What a sweet picture! They do resemble one another quite a bit! Before we got our two guys, I had been without a cat in my home for 13 years! MOH used to be allergic as a child. He's grown out of it since, and we finally decided to give cats a try. We did our homework on breeds and found two that have the lowest amount of dander. The Maine Coon and the Norwegian Forest. Found a breeder for Norwegian Forests in Southern New Hampshire. Until we got these guys, I used to get my "fur-fix" at a friend's house. She had four very friendly cats!

Oh, Norwegian Forest cats! They look so majestic, I always admire them at cat shows. There's a big international cat show in my city twice a year, and the spring one will take place next week. Too bad it seems now we won't be able to attend this time but in November we certainly will be going again.

I would love to go to a big cat show. I've only seen some breeds in photographs. Some of the smaller shows around here don't have the Norwegian Forest cats. They only became a recognized breed in the US in the late 70's.

They only became a recognized breed in the US in the late 70's. Norwegian Forest cats as well as Maine Coons are very popular breeds in Finland. I suspect it's because of our climate - though as pedigree cats they are usually kept indoors, at least they should be. The big cat shows twice a year in my city feature usually some 500-700 cats, and they're always two-day shows over a weekend. I've seen many different rare breeds in them, like sphinxes and ocicats, and last time I attended I saw for a first time a Selkirk Rex cat, an example of which here: I hope you can attend one of those really big cat shows some day, devil-may-care. There's nothing so lovely as a big room all full of beautiful cats! Well, the presence of one James May, of course, but as I'll probably never meet him, I'll make do with lots of cats instead.
