I've just had a pikelet with lots of butter on. It was delicious, but I feel quite guilty - perhaps I should have eaten it without butter. To quote my much-quoted bakery manager - Eshalda, NO. The whole point of pikelets is that you drown 'em in butter ;D mm, mm. I don't have any handy, but I do have their near cousins, crumpets. And some proper butter. I might have some in a min.

Soon these: They're called 'mokkapalat' in Finnish, freely translated as 'mocha squares', spiced with cocoa and coffee

^Sorry, but I'm afraid these are as good as gone. ;D My son's been watching the oven like a hawk and made the topping with me so that he can have a taste. These were the most popular thing at his birthday as well, good thing they're pretty quick to bake. Also made some without cocoa (added some raspberries in the dough) and topped with white chocolate, they weren't bad either

My dad used to make this banana dessert for me when my parents had adults over for dinner and he knew I hated the rest of the meal. Took the definition from Wiki. because they summed it up well.
"Bananas Foster is a dessert made from bananas and vanilla ice cream, with the sauce made from butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, dark rum, and banana liqueur. The butter, sugar and bananas are cooked, and then the alcohol is added and ignited. The bananas and sauce are then served over the ice cream. Preparation of the dish is often made into a tableside performance as a flambé."

They originated the dessert. www.brennansneworleans.com/r_bananasfoster.html

Made real slow food today: cabbage rolls Takes a while to make, but they're sooooo good with lingonberry jam. Naturally, mine aren't quite as perfect as the ones my grandmother used to make, but perhaps I'll get there one day.

Last night's leftover Chinese. I was too tired to eat last night and barely managed the soup and the one sushi roll I also ordered.
To be honest, this tray of greasy deliciousness isn't getting wolfed down in a hurry either. I think I need to sleep for a week, then I'll be up for eating. (does that sound as idiotic to anyone else as it does to me?)

I have a sea of lingonberry jam/sauce here (it's a long story) so I may have to investigate these...

Perhaps Mimi will nap with you.

A very good Chianti wine is by Ruffino. It used to be encased in a straw basket at the bottom. It is really a quality Italian wine.
