I agree with Jacqui about the hair - I too prefer it long, though this trim did at least look more structured than some from the past.
I can't even begin to put into words how I feel about him losing out, other than to say that I agree with all the comments made on here so far, and I'm particularly annoyed that he lost to a flaming cookery show, as I loathe the entire genre. I thought the few flashes of James that the cameraman deigned to give us showed him as usual, being very gentlemanly and smiling in defeat, though in the last shot he seemed to be swallowing rather hard and I really felt for him. He's clearly a man who feels things strongly and he must be absolutely gutted.

The BAFTAs don't seem to get the whole picture. I don't know why they award people with unoriginal ideas in a place that you should credit people for their originality.
*Off to find James in a tux and new haircut*

He looks all grown up now I rather like the look, perhaps a tad too tidy. ;D As for the rest after the Ant and Dec win, I've decided the BAFTA's really are only for the rubbish, maybe with the odd bit of good

Aww James looks lovely. So disapointed that he didn't win knowing how much work and effort he put into the series. I don't get the Baftas I really don't.

I like the look too. He looks very suave. I think it was a night for awarding those they had either overlooked for years (like Ant N Dec and Masterchef) or those who are the usuals - such as Julie Walters and Kenny Branagh. All very dull. I stopped watching it and watched Richard interviewing Stirling Moss which was fascinating.

I didn't see any of the BAFTA's yesterday and now I am glad I didn't. How can he not win? I don't really know how hard any of these TV stars work to bring us some good programmes but I just feel that James put in a lot of time and effort for Toy Stories. It was a brilliant series (OK I'm biased) but to lose to a cookery programme, well ........... how absolutly gutted I feel.
Liking the new look, it's not too drastic.

God in Heaven those photos are absolutely gorgeous. He looks magnificent. I didn't see it thank God (Fallatyourfeet - I was watching our other favourite man last night and yes, he played your namesake).
So he didn't win? I'm not surprised, though ashamed of the judges. They always go for viewing figures rather than something with more quality. I would dearly like it if he kept doing high quality programmes and didn't fall into the trap of doing sh*te for fame and dosh. Sorry about the language but I am a insy bit cross that they haven't rewarded appropriately.

Such a shame for James and everyone involved.Still, trying to see a brightside, a nomination is still an achievement. Hopefully it will open more doors for him and more programmes for us. crumbs,I trust the Crowdies put on a good show?

I assume that the BAFTA's are chosen the same way that Emmy's are here in the U.S. Small group of people who claim they have no agenda. NOT! There are a lot of shows in the UK that I don't get the chance to see or don't download, but from what I saw not only of the Toy Stories programs but of how they were made to begin with, they should definitely have won. They encompassed an ideal that all of us have experienced... toys. James and the production company got classes of students, veterans, well known celebrities and the British public involved in these programs. It was far more reaching than a cooking show! Hopefully, James will continue to give the public the kind of shows he is passionate about. His passion really motivates people to try something new, find out more about history/military/science/inventions etc. That's what moves our society along, not reality television shows and rubbish fashion plates stuck in front of a camera because they look good. Whatever happened to substance? Ok - rant over.

Some of you asked if there were any images without the watermark across James's face. I've had a go at removing it. It was really hard especially around the eyes. If you all don't like it then I'll remove the image.

I've had a go Eshalda, it wasn't easy when writing goes across the eyes or mouth. Hope you don't find that James now has an odd smile. I'll take the images down if people find the eyes and mouth a bit disturbing.

Thank you so much brycegold, that is my favourite photo of James. I think you have done a good job. I suppose the professional photographers get very protective of their shots and hence slap their names across them, that, and the money they can make out of them.

There are a few on jamesmay.dropaheart if anyones interested Not really flower, as they belong to the whom ever took the pic's in the first place, which is not the above, and I really don't fancy a spell in Holloway, so anyway we'll get there in the end and by the proper means. but thanks anyway.

I've really felt very cross about this BAFTA business, and when I found a thread on The Guardian website asking if people agreed with the way they were awarded I couldn't restrain myself, and posted this: "I was particularly disappointed that James May's "Toy Stories" series was beaten by some god-awful cookery programme that I can't even be bothered to remember the name of. Here was a series presented by a cheerful and personable British slightly eccentric bloke, who managed to enthuse and involve the Great British Public by encouraging them to work together creatively and imaginatively. The GBP responded with massive enthusiasm, the results were truly impressive and no-one cared that the concept was slightly bonkers. Everyone gave in to their "inner child" (how I hate that phrase, but it fits) and seemed to gain from it, including Mr May himself, who was regularly quite emotional over what had been achieved. And this lost out to some guys emoting over their spatchcocked poussins? Good grief!" This is the thread. There are around 130 comments (none about James, as far as I can see), but it's interesting to see how much discord has been produced all round: www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2010/jun/07/bafta-tv-awards-winners-losers?showallcomments=true#CommentKey:3bb70711-d90a-438c-8b80-e596c2e01730
