I enjoyed watching that, as you say anything with James in it ...... Thank you for posting lindenchase.

I like how he's saying "I can't give you turn-by-turn directions" with an unspoken "because if I did you'd stalk me back to my house and camp on the front door"
Also, the interior of a 911 is less interesting than I would have thought.

I don't see the point either, but hey, I can't complain ;D Maybe they'll do the same with Jeremy and Richard

I know he said the 911 had firmed up suspension but it sounded very noisy every time he went over a hairline crack in the road I like a bit more comfort than that And I agree, the interior looked very plasticky and very boringly black

Thanks Lindenchase for posting! ;D I'm loving these "James drives to work vids" it really does feel like you're in the car with an old mate, enjoying the journey together and chating crap as mate do when you're travelling. Looking forward to part 3 already!

I've just realised that James's 911 is the Porsche equivalent of my old Triumph Herald. I've always liked that particular 911 variant, so that explains a lot ;D

And what a nice thing that would be, eh? ;D But yeah, I was thinking much the same thing (in addition to my usual "What a lovely voice he has" thoughts, that is... )

Afar - I KNOW, right? *sighs* He could read the telephone book and I'd probably listen. (no idea why there's a "probably" in that above sentence. Replace that with "definitely"... ahh yes, that's better.)

Of course, I'm still "in the closet" (sorta - I think mum knows) and if I came home with a DVD of "James May reads the London phone book" (ooooh yum, if only! ;D ) I reckon I'd be well and truly outed.

I find it really interesting when he makes the artistic/autistic reference, because people like James with their precision, slightly obsessive qualities and not quite being in the real world ("What's the problem with car parts in the bath?") to those in education could be described as "somewhere on the edge of the spectrum" (ie autistic spectrum). There are lots of people with the same traits as James, mainly men (I was married to one for a long time) who function perfectly well in the real world but are just a bit, well, different.
Interesting that he perceives/recognises it in himself.

Oooh, so many bits I highly enjoyed, there. (Part for being labelled as a "bizarre Marion and Geoff tribute" made me laugh - I never saw the show, but I heard about it through an interview on one of the earlier seasons of Top Gear that they've been replaying on the "BBC Knowledge" channel here in AUS this week.) But James, James, James! These little snippets of his drive, however unlike his actual drive ("I listen to the radio until something on the news makes me angry, then I shout at it for a while..." awww, I'd have happily seen that! ;D ...) The rant about gaffer tape was hilarious. (it must drive him up the wall, poor man!) And I never fail to end up in a giggling heap whenever I hear James do a bombastic Jeremy Clarkson impersonation (that one was especially well-observed... a real classic!) "No no no, where's the train in France?" LOL... perfect. Like you, though, dit, I was especially taken with his reference to his "artistic/autistic" route reading function, and as you yourself put it, I nodded in recognition, there. (I lived with a guy for four years back in the late nineties who I lost touch with, but then bumped into some years later... it turned out he'd actually been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome by that stage. (Explained a lot about some of his behaviour earlier, I can tell you!) Without stepping on the toes of the actual trained psychologist folks, some autism-spectrum types can be quite a bit slower to mature, especially socially - something definitely true of this young man I used to see, and apparently fairly true of James (to a lesser extent), from what I've read, at any rate. ... (Am I overthinking this? I suspect I am, but goodness me, I don't really care. I'm off to play those videos again. I could listen to James rattle on and on about 911 engines and 911 drivers' lore being "a load of horses' arse" all day!) ;D
