First - I thought he looked absolutely gorgeous. Hair just the perfect length and even when it was recorded (good few weeks ago) he'd obviously lost a bit of weight, and it suits him.
All that out of the way:
He must have known what he was getting into when he agreed to do it, but he gave every impression of looking like a man who was having second thoughts!
Again as tends to happen when he's on any of these types of show, his body language (and I've taught classes on it) strongly suggests that he's not 100% comfortable, as if he can't quite tune in to what's happening around him. He's nearly there but slightly out of step. Look, for example, at the way he responds when the other panellists are applauding each other or Vic 'n' Bob - his reaction is always slightly different. I also noticed he was blinking a little bit too, his nervous gesture that happens rarely on TG now but used to happen a lot. I still feel that he might be right on the far end of Asberger's, though in the highly intelligent and well-socialised area. And yes, I do over-analyse things on a regular basis!
I really felt he was genuinely terrified when he realised what was going to/be likely to happen at the end, and his "What do I do to get out of this?" was real. However, being the chap he is, he gritted his teeth and did it, but afterwards the look in his eyes for a split second made (I think it was) Bob's "Are you alright?" sound genuine also. It was a bit like when someone's passed out and starts to come round!
He must have been OK really, as he went to the recording of Jools Holland afterwards with Vic, but he didn't find it easy, and the looks of horror on the other panellists were far more graphic on a 50" TV than on a laptop screen!
I recorded it, but doubt whether I'll watch it again, though I will probably watch it on i-player to get some screen caps of the early parts - not the end though, that was just too gruesome!

I... don't know what to say after seeing that! LOL! I feel like my brain has been put in a spin dryer for 28 minutes and spat out... James looked bl**dy gorgeous. Such a good sport! He looked like he was having fun, but he looked almost panicked by the end. I hate to read too much into things, but I know I saw a very uncomfortable person who couldn't find where to put his camel rope! I think Louie Spence and that guy who made the noises were the funniest part. ;D

After watching it, I felt that it seemed too surreal for James to do something like that. Although this is a man that is interesting, so therefore he's into interesting stuff, but I don't know why he's into comedy like this. Then again, a man is entitled to laugh at whatever he wants. I thought that this game show was QI on drugs.

Did anyone guess it was James disguised as Hitler? I didn't. He did look rather apprehensive, bless him. Surely they must rehearse the show so he must have had some idea of what to expect. I did fine it funny, though in a grit your teeth kind of way. On a side note: Ulrika! Eat some pies woman. :0

This is not fair: I can't watch it on BBC homepage, cause I don't live in the UK and my computer won't play that stupid .torrent file! *Soobs* Now my only hope is the TV blinkx remote :/

he was certainly out of his comfort zone but he was a good sport to carry on with it, i think he realises he needs to do these things now he is a sort after TV personality.
Still think he'd be better suited to celebrity Mastermind ;D come on BEEB ;D

I managed to download it (thanks Lindenchase). What a strange show! I'm not sure I really get it lol. I hope he grows his hair back out, it looks much nicer long. That woman's ribs were rather distracting

Ulrika has such a pretty face but she looks painfully thin. The papers have been commenting on it for a while. I always think a still photo can be misleading, but when she stood up to drink the Horlicks, dear me! And bear in mind that the camera puts 10 pounds on a person.
Having overanalysed earlier (!) I just reckon that James was such a long way out of his comfort zone. Perhaps he enjoys watching the programme but found the experience of being in it not quite what he expected! I suspect they don't actually rehearse as such, as part of the show is for Vic 'n' Bob to behave in a surreal way and then we all see how the panellists respond - they're probably told what the format will be ("Then we'll do the dove from above" etc) but nothing else. It would be interesting to know how many takes they did it in, and what happened to any out-takes!

He seemed quite out of place, Louie on the other hand is perfect for the show.

After watching it, I felt that it seemed too surreal for James to do something like that. Well, James once mentioned that Ivor Cutler was his favourite comedian, so he must be into the surreal. ;D This is not fair...my computer won't play that stupid .torrent file! That's because you have to download it first.

That's because you have to download it first. I did xD But none of my players (Windows Media, VLC, PowerDVD and BitZip) would play it :/ And I even downloaded BitZip, cause it claimed it could do it...

Just to double check: you downloaded the actual programme (avi file 223 mb) and not just the torrent file itself (20kb)?

I really am quite hopeless So sorry Where do I find the real file, the only file I am able to find and download is the torrent-file at the top...

Where do I find the real file, the only file I am able to find and download is the torrent-file at the top... ;D I had guessed that was the case. Don't worry. You're not the first one. You first have to download and install a torrent programme. If you want to download from The Box you have to make sure it is one they approve of. This one should do: utorrent 1.8.3. (Make sure you don't upgrade to a later edition.) www.filehippo.com/download_utorrent/5968/Once you have installed this and you click on the torrent file, the download will start automatically. Remember it's called file sharing for a reason. After you have downloaded, give other people a chance to download from you as well. :-)

James looked absolutely lush! Loved the hair and the jacket! I agree with you about the body language, Dit. James was definitely out of his depth. He had the look of extreme toleration, but only just. I downloaded this from thebox and watched it this morning. However, I watched it in bits, not because I'm at work and had annoying, interrupting customers to deal with, but because I had to take a few breaks and pauses from the show when it just got too much for me. I have seen the ridiculous. I have sat through nonsense and cringed through painful, but this was so much more than any of that. This was truly terrible! There are not enough cushions in the world to hide behind! I've seen Vic on QI, and he wasn't that bad. Certainly not the best guest I had ever seen. I had never seen him on anything else. Nor will I again without warning! If James actually likes watching this show, then more power to him. But I couldn't sit through another episode. You want terrorists to talk? Forget GITMO, make them watch Shooting Stars! Rant over. I need to breathe now.

What has surprised me most about this all is how different people react to Shooting Stars. It's obviously a show you either love (me!) or hate. That's a good sign itself I guess. I'd rather make a programme like that than make something most people couldn't give a toss about. And as far as James is concerned, to me he didn't look more or less lost than he did on HIGNFY. Now, let's all hope for a QI appearance.

You download the file then you need to use a 'client' like Vuze to 'get' the actual file that you can play?
