"James May got a laugh when he thanked the woman who had tucked in their microphones - a reference to the sexism row that has seen Andy Gray and Richard Keys leave Sky Sports."

Related no doubt to:

"Jeremy Clarkson has said the Sky Sports sexism row raised the danger of people being punished for "heresy by thought".

Talking backstage at the National Television Awards about the row which has seen Andy Gray and Richard Keys leave the channel, the Top Gear presenter said: "We've arrived at a stage where you actually can be busted by heresy by thought, which is a terrifying place to live.

"While we try very hard on Top Gear not to be sexist... if a man wants to think that... that's fine. You should be allowed to think what you think."

Clarkson said he did not feel added pressure to include more women on screen.

He said: "We don't feel under pressure. I just think we've got a guest and if it's a man it's a man and if it's a woman it's a woman." "

Fantastic achievement boys ..................... I recall that TG has won awards in the past but I don't know which ones and how many (must do my homework more often).

After a rocky year where the show has been heavily criticised and some people were keen to write them off it's great to see that they are back at the top again.

I was out last night so thanks for posting the link, now to sit back and enjoy ...

I noticed that as well XJS when I saw the piccy.... James is getting very respectable in his "old age" being all smart and tidy (ish) haired ;D

I did a double take when I saw Richard was in jeans and a 'funeral tie', Jeremy did slightly better but wouldn't pass muster with open necked shirt and grey suede loafers, only James, in my opinion was correctly turned out.
I've just read that they arrived by helicopter and left by speedboat.

Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond told of their fears other presenters could be sacked for voicing an opinion off-air.

Clarkson, 50, said: "If that's the new benchmark, the three of us would have been sacked probably 100 times for the things we've said. So would everyone.

"It's baffling. It's a very baffling, worrying time if I'm not allowed to say to Richard or James something on my mind for fear I could be sacked for it."

May also joked about Gray's comment regarding his microphone to Sky Sports' Charlotte Jackson, when he said, "Can you tuck that down there?" as he prepared to go on air.

The Top Gear presenter said he "wanted to thank the young lady who stuffed the microphone down my trousers". As the audience laughed, Clarkson said May would soon be out of a job.

May added: "I dislike Jeremy intensely but I'd die for the right for him to continue to be as objectionable as he is." Hammond said: "It's a case of who says it, and who do they say it to."

According to his post on his website, Richard says:

It was great to be there to collect the gong, but we had to make a mad dash to get there, even by our standards. We record Top Gear on Wednesdays, so they had to send a helicopter to the studio to pick us up and then a speedboat to the O2. So it was all very James Bond, but if you looked closely at us on the stage you'd spot that I'd forgotten my suit trousers and had to wear jeans and Jeremy forgot his shoes.
