Thanks Dit. I like it where he mentions he would like to do "grown-up documentaries on the history of machines, or music, or something.” I love the stuff Jezza did about the sunjects that are close to his heart. Hopefully james will be allowed to do same.

Agreed. Intelligent television from a personal viewpoint with an agreeable and witty presenter - no wonder the BBC like Mr May. Strange, then, that the Independent TV reviewer wrote this morning,
"Which brings me to James May, one of the Top Gear presenters, in whom the BBC seems to think they have a star, although I can't for the life of me understand why."
I think the gentleman shouldn't bother trying to understand, he cleary just doesn't get it!
(I'm actually quite impressed at the amount of support knocking about for "Things You Need To Know"; the intelligensia may not have appreciated it, but Joe Bloggs seems to have found it very useful and entertaining.)

Best line in the article: There’s just no defining this man. ;D ;D

I enjoyed that interview - thanks for the heads up. Wonder if he would consider taking womankind for a jolly in the fezza? All in the name of a good cause. Comic relief would make a small fortune.

Great find, Dit. I especially like the second picture of James in his car. When he bought his Fezza, he mentioned he could just get it in and out of his garage. It shows!

Just a quick quote from an interview, none of the rest of which is news, but this I hadn't seen before. It suggests a rather interesting point of view
What’s the most important lesson life has taught you? Advice is usually sh*t. I didn’t really get that one until I was in my 30’s.

James May won’t take no for an answer. He insists I try his new whisky cloud: a device for atomising scotch with compressed air, so that it can be supped through a pipe in the manner of a hookah. ‘It came from our experiments in how to make snow by shock-freezing a cloud of water vapour,’ he explains, before taking a lungful.
This dude likes to party. James, my man, who knew.
Couple that with the long hair, general eccentric disheveled appearance, a call for back to basics homegrown skills (any moment he'll be showing us how to weave our own cloth) and...
I like the idea of a society that tries to reduce rules, reduces interference and encourages individual open-mindedness and freedom of thought.
My man is becoming a hippie. Hee, hee. Welcome to California, USA. Come on out, it's nice and warm. Love ya James.

Great interview - thanks, mightybabs. I thought it was clear from Toy Stories that James would make a really inspiring teacher.

I must have been up too late for my brain last night, as I hadn't even noticed that it was a Daily Fail interview. And as I hadn't yet opened my plastic bag of Fail on Sunday extras this morning, I didn't realise the interview was in the magazine.
Someone there must really like James, he always gets a lot of positive exposure from them. The article also made me realise just how much he's done and what he's achieved. I'm sure he'd be very modest and say he's had a lot of help and the BBC's money, but he couldn't have done it without having the ideas himself, and of course his tremendous enthusiasm.

Very good interview thanks for posting MB. Although I see the daily fail may have used old info - the cat being a prime example. Unless of course there is a FuskerII ;D

Great interview and much food for thought. I completely agree with his opinion on the overbearing amount of red tape, bureaucracy and computer crap we have to deal with. I work in the statutory sector where such things seem to have greater import than the job itself. For example, I have so many passwords - different by necessity, some of which I am not allowed (by pain of sacking) to write down or record except in my mind. Nightmare. We have computer based checks and balances for everything stultifying our every move.
Oh I feel a rant coming on......AND! recently, some berk where I work forgot to check the toaster, so it burnt and the alarm went off. Result? Toasters banned, kettles (tis true) banned. Installation of weird modern hot (not boiling) water providers. Result? Crap tea. All because one person didn't check the toaster. There was no danger of fire, just a bit of smoke. Wouldnt it be better just to remind those not so sensible among us to not leave toasters unattended rather than the rather draconian measure of banning them? There is an increasing wave of 'lets treat adults like children with no common sense'. It's annoying, time consuming and therefore expensive. Now, having said that, I'm well aware there are some people who need more guidance than others. Let's help and advise them rather than treat us all as a race with very little brain or common sense.
I would love to see James do a history or music programme - he'd be fabulous. A teacher? He can teach me any time!
