I don't know of a car park next to or near a railway/tube station that doesn't charge a daily rate. Whereabout are you staying if you are 50 miles out of town? You could get lucky with a side street and get free parking that way but watch out its not resident permit only, the fine isn't worth it. And if you fall in to the Cross Keys behave yourself ;D ;D

We're staying in Swindon. Wanted to make a straight shot for Heathrow more or less. I guess when we get there I'll get a pamphlet or something. The hotels in Hammersmith were too expensive for me!

I may be able to get you some information, Vivienne. I have friends that live in Swindon and my neighbor is from there. PM me the name of your hotel and I'll see what they can tell me about transport and parking for you. ;D ;D

Swindon is more than 50 miles from London! Maybe 50 from Heathrow, but then it's another 20+ miles to Central London from there.
There are trains direct from Swindon to Central London, or see my post at the bottom of page 2.

I don't know! Is that the right one? Someone went there and was relieved she didn't see a certain person because she didn't know how she would react! Yes, go if you can! The food was quite nice and it was lovely and cozy inside. Fun to see the locals and wonder who may know our guy....we were there on a Sunday evening but didn't seen himself. (I would have been HAPPY to see him....) ;D

We've been offered my brother-in-law's caravan for a week in September. That's at Henley-on-Thames. Apparently Windsor is close and well worth a visit. I fancy a couple of day trips into London from there. I'll have to research the transport links.

Thanks Jacqui - the best time that I ever had in London, was a booksigning at Leadenhall, followed by lunch on the steps of St Paul's, then a tour bus all afternoon dropping me at significant landmarks... and the sun was shining A heavenly day to remember.

Since my husband and I had to cancel our trip to the UK we decided to take a trip state side. We are going to leave on the 27th (Saturday) and we'll be gone for two weeks. We're going to drive to the Florida Keys. (Assuming there are no hurricanes.) We're going to stop and visit a friend in VA and we're going to stop and do the tourist routine in Atlanta and then the Everglades. I'll try to check in on the board in the evenings when I can. ;D

The seven mile bridge terrified my husband, I think because it was so long straight and narrow, with very small and flimsy crash barriers. I think he had thoughts of crashing into the water and drowning. Key West was gorgeous though and well worth the drive. The Keys brought a whole new meaning to 'drifting' for me. It is two days until I go on my holiday. I have started to pull things out to pack. I always promise i will travel light - but never do.

I know what you mean about the bridge Eshalda, I wasn't driving so i just lapped up the scenery but I think i would have been the same as your hubby - the QE2 bridge scares me to death!!!
Where are you off to? ;D

I'm going to Italy, flying 7;30am wednesday morning. We fly from Newcastle so will be setting off from home about 2;30am. We could fly from our local airpo t which is about 15 minutes from where we live, but there is a three hour transfer at the other end, as opposed to 45 minutes. We prefer the shorter transfer.

No I haven't been to The Keys before. I have been to Florida before. The Orlando area. Did the entire Disney and Sea World thing. I have a friend that used to live in Coco Beach and we stayed with her a few times. But I have never been further south than Orlando. I am really looking forward to it. I have heard it is beautiful. Now, let's hope that the weather holds - think no hurricanes!
