lol, I thought the story of Avatar really sucked. The cgi was indeed amazing, but the simple, common story ruined it for me.

Yesterday I watched
A Single Man - Colin Firth, directed by Tom Ford. ACE film. it's actually one of the best films I've ever seen.
The Kings Speech - Colin Firth, directed by Thomas Hooper. Absolutely stunning, all around.

Ah, I love Colin Firth! And I did really like both A Single Man (even though I missed the beginning of it) and The King's Speech. He is such a good actor!

Thought I'd jump in and list some of my favorite movies, they kind of go all over the board...I usually go for comedies, action and horror/thriller. Romance I find to be sappy unless it is done right (eg, Pride and Prejudice). The comedies that I like are usually ones like Tommy Boy (which I am not really proud that I can recite with the mute on, actually. David Spade is my other favorite celeb besides James. I think it is the hair) and PCU. I'm finicky with comedies. I do like some sci-fi movies (one of my favorite TV series besides TG is The Twilight Zone, the original Rod Serling version), my very favorite being the 1960's version of HG Wells's The Time Machine. The music is so captivating and the sets are mind-blowing when you consider when the film was made. Even though the movie is several decades older than me, I grew up watching this movie and I never tire of it. Of the horror/thriller movies that might be a tad obscure is a UK made film called "Dead of Night" from 1945. It is about a group of guests at a farmhouse that tell each other supernatural things that have happened to them recently. The main character is an architect that has this sense of forbidding all throughout the movie. I find it entertaining, if you like spooky/eerie kind of suspense stories (and be forewarned, it is a tad dated). I'm hit and miss with Hitchcock; I really liked Notorious and Strangers on a Train, but didn't care for Rear Window or The Birds very much. Action...I go more mainstream..Indiana Jones, Star Wars..things like that. A lot of Tim Burton's stuff rates high on my entertaining list, too. Beetlejuice I know quite well, also. Colin Firth can do very little (if any) wrong in my mind. Loved King's Speech and I always remember him as Darcy.

I think most women think of Colin Firth as Darcy. He just turned 50 and he is still delicious. I thought it was neat he was also Darcy in Bridget Jones' Diary 1 and 2. Referring to Hitchcock, not too long ago I saw North by Northwest with Cary Grant. I got it from the library and it was the restored version. Tim Burton doesn't do it for me although I like the actors especially Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter, one his good friend the other his wife. Did you ever see Benny and Joon? I loved that. Johnny Depp is a very good actor as well as being very attractive and I believe humble.

ElerVim, I think we were cut from the same cloth! I love PCU! I even went to the theater to see it! ;D And the Time Machine (the old version) was fabulous! I've watched it dozens of times! Beetlejuice is another one of my favorites, along with the Indiana Jones movies (well, except for the Temple of Doom - that woman drove me nuts) and the original Star Wars trilogy. Colin Firth will always be Darcy. I can even hear his voice when I'm reading Pride and Prejudice! ;D I can't wait to see him in the new Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy! ;D ;D Thanks for the info on "Dead of Night". It sounds really interesting.

It sounds really interesting. Me, too! I can't want to see Tinker Taylor also! Yeah, I didn't care for the second Indiana Jones movie, either...Spielberg married the screaming lady in that movie later on and I think they are still married....Kate Capshaw. Can't imagine why; she was the worst thing about that movie. Dead of Night is a really obscure movie I stumbled upon purely by accident; my mom has something like 200 movies on some 70 vhses. It's ridiculous. She is a true movie buff, and knows a lot about films before... I'd say 1995. Usually classic actors like Jimmy Stewart, Audrey Hepburn and the like she knows a lot about. One of the other things that I loved watching with my sister when we were younger was something that was on one of the lower channels that my mom on a total fluke ended up recording called the "Grand Knockout Tournament" that was a one-off charity event the royals did in 1987. Princess Anne, Fergie, Andrew, and Prince Edward were captains of teams in a sort of slapstick game show of sorts. Bits and pieces of it are scattered about on YouTube, and as I understand, some people think that the perception of the royals began to deteriorate after this was aired. But either way, it was highly entertaining.

Tinker, tailor should be fantastic. I've read all of Le Carre's books, plus the all star cast along with Colin Firth, another favorite Michael Caine.
The Tintin movie looks good also. I've many of the stories.

I look forward to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy too! It seems like an interesting movie. But I really can't wait to see The Machine Gun Preacher!! It's not released on DVD until March.. But I hope I can find somewhere to download it before that I will of course buy it when it's released, but I just want to watch it as soon as possible! The story seems great, and I look forward to see lovely Gerard Butler in a new movie ^^ www.imdb.com/title/tt1586752/

Viv, have you read Micheal Caine's autobiography, "The Elephant to Hollywood"? It is such a wonderful read and I am not a big reader, either; I breezed through it in two weeks. He tells such interesting stories about all the people he meets on his adventures through his life as a celebrity. I highly recommend it.

I have watched a lot of movies the past week! The Ugly Truthwww.youtube.com/watch?v=DvsZtGxsvV0"A romantically challenged morning show producer is reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests by her chauvinistic correspondent to prove his theories on relationships and help her find love. His clever ploys, however, lead to an unexpected result."I LOVE this movie, and I think I'll never get tired of watching it! A great romantic comedy, with a fabulous cast. Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl is perfect together! The Lake Housewww.youtube.com/watch?v=4hYO8b4u3po"A lonely doctor who once occupied an unusual lakeside home begins exchanging love letters with its former resident, a frustrated architect. They must try to unravel the mystery behind their extraordinary romance before it's too late."One of my favourite movies ever. It's just lovely! Something Borrowedwww.youtube.com/watch?v=4qlMqqc7YdE"Friendships are tested and secrets come to the surface when terminally single Rachel falls for Dex, her best friend Darcy's fiancé."This movie made me laugh and cry, and I recommend it if you like romantic movies with happy endings! Hannawww.youtube.com/watch?v=ugireeCoYyUIt's about "a 16-year-old who was raised by her father to be the perfect assassin is dispatched on a mission across Europe, tracked by a ruthless intelligence agent and her operatives."A thrilling and great movie! Crazy. Stupid. Lovewww.youtube.com/watch?v=eK68Y3oMEk8&feature=fvwrel"A middle-aged husband's life changes dramatically when his wife asks him for a divorce. He seeks to rediscover his manhood with the help of a new-found friend Jacob, learning to pick up girls at bars. "I liked this one, it was kind of.. cute. Into the Wildwww.youtube.com/watch?v=taFaFEuwHLQ"After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life. "This one could be a bit tedious, but I think it was quite good. I didn't watch the whole movie at once, I watched as much as I had time to in my breakfast and lunch breaks for two or three days. It's a true story about a boy who leaves his home and family to live life out in the wild. The Switchwww.youtube.com/watch?v=EEYqgyXyk9A"Seven years after the fact, a man comes to the realization that he was the sperm donor for his best friend's boy. "Hilarious! Loved it! Best romantic comedy I've seen except for The Ugly Truth. Really worth watching! Perfect Sensewww.youtube.com/watch?v=iexMJrBzZtA"A chef and a scientist fall in love as an epidemic begins to rob people of their sensory perceptions."I think this one was a bit weird, but realistic. I could really feel the character's frustration and hopelessness towards the end, and I really want to know what happened next. But I don't think it will ever come a sequel, unfortunately. Sweet Home Alabamawww.youtube.com/watch?v=v29HZvcgOTM"Melanie Carmichael, an up and rising fashion designer in New York, has gotten almost everything she wished for since she was little. She has a great career and the JFK-like fiancée of New York City. But when he proposes to her, she doesn't forget about her family back down South. More importantly, her husband back there, who refuses to divorce her ever since she sent divorce papers seven years ago. To set matters straight, she decides to go to the south quick and make him sign the papers. When things don't turn out the way she planned them, she realizes that what she had before in the south was far more perfect than the life she had in New York City. "I love it! Wow, when I look at this list, I think I might just as well admit that I have a thing for romantic movies at the moment..

I saw the Lake House. I love Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. Josh Lucas in Sweet Home Alabama sort of reminds me of Matthew Mcconahey.

I've seen it in the theatre 3 times and to be honest I'm not sure I want to see it in the cinema. I'm not knocking the film version; obviously I haven't seen it, but every time I've seen the theatre version I have been more terrified than anything else in my life; it's a visceral fear that gets you right in the bowels. At a certain point (I won't give anything more away!) you actually feel the hairs on the back of your neck slowly rise, especially if you're sitting near the aisle!
I've actually seen two teenage girls sitting in the same seat clinging to each other in genuine terror at the live show and somehow I don't want to lose that type of memory should I be disappointed by the film.

I've seen it at the theatre also but the film is really good. It's also good for bringing a different genre to kids have never seen a proper haunted house story. When we went yesterday there was genuine fear on some of the kids faces(and some adults also). They didn't know how to react to it. It doesn't matter how you see the movie/theatre show providing it is a good story told well. My first memory of it was watching it on Christmas eve with my nan, grandad and mum at 12 midnight when I was 15.

Paranormal Activity 3 youtu.be/In9svUXwZXQ[/quote]Watched this last night.I was more of the same really and the ending was not as expected. It had a few scares that made me jump but not loads. As the film budget has risen the effects have gotten better but the movie lacks story.Just once I'd wish they would refare back to the past movies so the story is consistent. If you liked the first two movies you should like this.

I watched "The Awakening" last night, basically its a movie about a haunted boarding school set just after the 1st world war or the Downton years if you will. A young woman who doesn't beleive in spirits is sent to investigate. Its a good film set in the dark atmospere of The Woman In Black but isn't as spooky.I liked it and the OH did too (and he's like Barry Norman). www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5inmkkAOy0&feature=colike
