A Few Films that I think everyone must watch at some point1. Withnail and IRichard E Grant plays Withnail... an actor and a drunk. Set in the 70s. Drink, Drugs and Shooting fish Brilliant Film 2. Dr StrangeloveAlternative name:How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the BombPeter Sellers is truly amazing playing a few parts in this black comedy about the Cold War. Very good and very dark. 3. The Great EscapeIf you haven't seen this, get on netflix, love film or whatever and download it now! 4. DownfallOk; so watching a film on the last few hours of Hitler's life may not be your thing. But I think it's a classic film and extremely interesting. And I like war films! 5. Jacob's LadderTim Robbins playing a dude who's life starts going mental since leaving Vietnam. Really good horror movie. When horror films used to be good.

Have to disagree with Jacobs Ladder!! It's poo the only scarey bit is the fact you watch it. I just watched Dream House with Daniel Craig in.More thriller than horror. youtu.be/cjDMHvkH3Co

Have to disagree with Jacobs Ladder!! It's poo the only scarey bit is the fact you watch it Oh my God. It's so psychologically freaky. The final stage-play before death. The heartache of guilt. Not spooky scary. But fecks with your mind.....

I like the Great Escape, but couldn't stand Withnail and I. Thought it was stupid. I like films that were made in the 60's. Things like Twinky, Spring & Port Wine, Georgie Girl, 1960's Bond films. Then the original Star Wars, Grease, Saturday Night Fever (bunking in ABC to see that! ) loved Yanks, but not a fan of Richard Gere. Didn't like Jaws, Close Encounters or ET.
I actually like Bruce Willis in Die Hard and Last Boy Scout and the best film Patrick Swazye was in, Road house. Pierce Brosnan was also a great 007, but awful in Mamma Mia.
One thing I can't be doing with are love story films and Jennifer Anniston!

I like Great Escape, didn't like Withnail and I either. Not much for 60's films but I do like the Italian Job and most of the Bond films. I loved Jaws and I like Die Hard movies too.
I can't be doing with love stories, war stories, westerns or old fashioned pirate films.
I like nutters, gore, possesed people and movies that get into your head and make you think.

The Great Escape is a wonderful movie that was also based on a true story (except for Steve McQueen's part). Loved Richard Attenborough and James Coburn. I was raised on this movie and the 1960's Time Machine, actually. I never get tired of either one.
Just got done watching "Tinker Tailor Solider Spy". I'm not a big spy person, but it was interesting (I also really like John Hurt; he gets a special place in my heart because I love his voice and he is just an awesome actor) and I didn't have a problem following the plot. It bounces around a lot and has a lot of flashbacks and flash forwards. If you aren't completely paying attention, you will miss things. It can get confusing since there are a lot of people to keep track of.

I thought that tooabout Tinker,Taylor. It was very confusing and I thought it was very boring to. If anybody would like the DVD of it (watched once) let me know. You can the one I bought as it's gathering dust on the DVD shelf.
I too have a soft spot for John Hurt though more for aliens bursting through his chest!!!

Btw, tell your girl my girl has seen Avengers twice now and has proclaimed it to be, "best film ever", but being a teenager, I'm sure next week she will find a new "best film ever".

My very favorite movie is A ROOM WITH A VIEW. I fell in love with this little film when I first saw it in the 1980s, and I wore out 2 video tapes watching it over and over. It is so funny!

It's an old movie, but my SO and I just finished watched the 1969 film IF. It was most disturbing from the point of view of this American who is not used to the English public schools of the time. Thankfully, I believe most of the horrendous customs of the past, such as fagging and routine beatings, are no longer tolerated.

In a fit on insomnia last night, I was pleased that I could watch one of my old favorites GEORGY GIRL. I was amazed to see a much younger Bill Owen as a butler cum factotum. I am so used to seeing him in reruns of THE LAT OF THE SUMMER WINE as a scruffy little man!

The Washington Post has an interview with Ben Collins which I'm not risking putting a link to as apparently I will be locked up in Alcatraz if I do, spoil sports (though I don't imagine it's difficult to find). Suffice to say that he did the stunt driving for Skyfall, which I saw last night and is the best film I've seen in several years. The driving is truly amazing.
He did say about Top Gear (hope I don't get arrested for this short quote!)
'I loved working and testing all those super cars with a small team. It was guerilla filming and we could get away with murder. Crazy locations. Great times. Crew of six.'
Is that police sirens I hear outside my front door?

I look forward to seeing SKYFALL as well as LINCOLN.
SO and I saw ARGO several weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I only learned yesterday that the CIA agent portrayed by Ben Affleck lives about 12 miles from where I live!

I, too, saw SKYFALL (the IMAX version) tonight and thought it was one of the best films I've seen in a long time. I am still a big fan of Sean Connery's Bond and cannot imagine anyone else in the role. Acting was superb all around, but I nearly cried when they destroyed the Aston Martin. Albert Finney as the old employee of Bond's family home in Scotland was a real and pleasant surprise.
