I always follow the "8 second rule" - think about what you're going to say for 8 seconds. You may decide not to say it after all. In this particular case, an evening can't hurt. I bet if politicians followed the 8 second rule, they wouldn't say much of anything. ;D

Your boss sounds like she changes her mind on a regular basis Afar. To quote my firend and the best boss I have ever worked for "Cover yer a*se" Any emails she sends you with 'instructions/guidance', respond to in the affirmative and KEEP A COPY! That way, when you have your get together with her you can produce them to prove yourself in the clear

Life is too short to be so stressed about work.... I don't need it! I do feel better and calmer today now I have made a positive desicion

Okay, so here I am dredging up an old old thread... but I need a space to vent. I'm getting harassing text messages and "anonymous" posts on my Livejournal from - of all people - my ex-mother-in-law, who's on the other side of the world (so my phone wakes me up when she texts, because in her words "I can't be expected to remember that Brisbane is fourteen hours ahead of New York..." - well, not NOW that my precious son isn't living there with me anymore! That's what this is REALLY about.) I can't turn off my phone; I use it as an alarm as well as a phone. And I've been ill, so my sleep is bad to begin with. Now, since her gutless useless son left ME at the start of this year, he's bothered to speak to me only a couple of times. Now suddenly she thinks she can text me out of the blue, AND stalk and harass me on my (mostly Friends-locked) livejournal, and this is not only stuffing with my sleep, it's making me physically ill. The offensive things she accuses me of are not only cowardly, they're flat-out wrong. And this complete psycho is flat-out harassing me, like a bloody coward, from the other side of the planet... It wouldn't upset me so much except that I walked away from that marriage with less than nothing (debts were run up in my name by this child of a bloke - and in my country, too!), except maybe more peace of mind than I've had in years, and she's chipping even that away from me. And before anyone asks me what my mother in law has to do with it, I wish I knew. However, some background: my ex is from a comfortably-off Greek American family and was an only child - actually, at thirty, the ex is STILL a child, and his parents are excessively meddlesome. Why a woman of sixty-five still feels the need to fight her son's battles is something I'm notr even interested in understanding, anymore. I just wish she'd leave me the hell alone and let me try and get on with my life.

Sorry you're getting all of this harassment.
My first bit of advice is go out and buy yourself the simplest, cheapest alarm clock so you can turn your phone off. It will be worth the £20 or whatever it would cost to turn the woman off. That's her first bit of power gone, as she knows full well what she is doing.
I don't understand Livejournal is there anyway of blocking her? No doubt our more with it members will be able to work that one out. If it continues maybe set up a new one and let only those you want to know that you've done it?
Unfortunately people like this tend to like to blame everyone else and aren't able to see the truth about their own children.

If it continues maybe set up a new facebook and let only those you want to know that you've done it? Unfortunately people like this tend to like to blame everyone else and aren't able to see the truth about their own children. My Facebook is already shielded from them. My LJ is an online journal I've had since 2003, and she's sprayed her filth all over the non-friendslocked recent entries. I mean, some of this garbage is just unbelievable... and right now I don't even have the strength to go in there and delete it (luckily the settings are such that only I can see it, but I don't even want to see a random word of her nastiness... this is stuff that's been giving me nightmares as it is.) You're right, an alarm clock it is, next time I get to the shops. Until then, the phone gets switched off... no way is she destroying my hard-won sleep again, if I can stop it. I'll get someone to wake me up in the morning if needed.

Do you have a close friend who could clean it up for you? Could be easier to just get it all removed. People like her don't last long if their power is stripped away and they get no indication that they are causing any problems. She'll be very annoyed if she thinks she isn't getting any reaction. What is it with men and their mothers?!!

Possibly, but the divorce isn't finalised - I don't have the money to get it seen to in Brisbane, where we were married, and there's no such thing as no-fault divorce in NYC, so I may need it as evidence. I don't know, but whatever it is, adding a Gen Y husband (I TOLD him I was too old for him... shoulda stuck to my guns, it seems) who also happened to be a Greek-American AND an only child, made it something of the perfect storm. *Shudders* ...And apologies if that sounds racist. It's not meant that way. About the only way I'm "PC" is that I don't use a Mac computer

Ah well you just can't help who you fall in love with, with Greek mother, Gen Y'er, etc... If only we all had crystal balls...not that it would make any difference probably.... motherinlawhell.com/I'm off to read "She's a sun f**ked onion!!!"...sounds like a good read ;D

I heard a woman talking on the radio a few years ago about how her in-laws (Greek-American) were so disappointed in their son's choice of wife, some members of the family actually "kidnapped" the son one day to take him home! Crazy stuff.
I hope Spanish families aren't the same.....I wouldn't mind a Spanish bloke!

Thankyou everyone for the support. (Helicopter moms... not just for the playground anymore, apparently! Grrr.) I feel your pain fly, my sister is still having trouble with her Greek ex inlaws after 14 years but she does have children, sadly the mother has caused so many problems......unfortunately with these blokes/babymen mother comes first Oh, lew. I really do feel for your sister! That sucks. (Trust me, the fact that I never had kids is a huge relief right now... the custody battles would be a nightmare, for starters. ) Then again, I told him more than once "You'd have to grow up first, yourself, before I'd consider kids." Well, THAT never happened... And then coming back to Australia only to have my former best straight male friend make a highly unwelcome move on me, causing me to have to stop seeing him altogether - I'm beginning to suspect blokes aren't worth the hassle! *sigh*

Can you block her number? No, unfortunately. Although she seems to have stopped her cr*p, for now. I have a 3-year-old Nokia, so that probably wouldn't work for me. And to think all of this started because I asked my ex for his current address, and he got wangsty. (Uh, why do I need your address? Because I don't want you having power of attorney over me anymore, for starters... )

At a guess (and as someone who became a bit of a timezone expert with previous jobs), I'd say yeah... (midnight here. I need sleep!) Well, have fun and take care in Dubai!

In fact now I think about my phone that I had over 5 years ago would switch it self on if i had set the alarm. Set your alarm for 1 minute's time to see if yours phone will switch on.

I can't sleep and I have to be up in 6 hours get my flight to Dubai :-( I go through terrible "middle of the night" insomnia patterns and someone told me recently that lavender helps you to sleep. I tried lavender candles last night and it worked. Hmm, although you are prob already in Dubai...... ;D Now for the ranting....bought a new HD TV and it won't pick up any of the digital channels. God I hate technology. Think I need a new antenna. Where is a man when you need one??? Grrrrrrrr

Lavender oil's a goodie, too... but don't use too many drops I used lavender wax because I agree, the oil is too much and messy. The wax is quite nice, very subtle.

Thanks for the advice ladies :-) I have used lavender before and it does help. My nights sleep ended up being 4 hours only :-( but I did manage to doze on the short 45 min flight to Dubai so felt slightly more coherant than expected for my meeting! And Wen you were right when you posted I had already been up for 4 hours and been in DUbai for 1 hour! As for men.... they have their uses now and again
