Should be fun. He'll run rings round the two half wits that present it ;D I hope someone saves it cos my 12 year old Sky box has died and I can't get terrestrial channels until it gets replaced (free of charge ;D ;D ;D ) on 1st December

The One Show appears on the BBC iPlayer, so you should be able to see it there. I'll be at work all evening, so I'll have a look later. I like seeing Jezza on talk shows. Always a good laugh. ;D

He's such a ridiculous man. People are going to be all miffed because they don't realise he's arsing about, and that he doesn't believe a large percentage of what he says. And he's clearly freaked out Alex and the consumer advice woman. Matt, thankfully, seems to understand Jeremy a bit better...
He's doing the 'baffled old duffer' routine wonderfully!

DS and the beeb's POV have gone into meltdown. It seems all their readers have had sense of humour removals PS Haven't seen it yet. Thanks xj for the iplayer prompt Alex is an oxygen thief and only got her job on the One Show because they were looking for a Bleakley lookey likey. If it's not on the autocue she hasn't a clue ;D ;D

Interestingly enough, it's not coming up on iPlayer. The statement reads
"Sorry, this programme is not available to watch again."
Hmm. I wonder why that should be? Surely not censorship? Still, I suppose it might turn up later.
Later edit: Don't think it's going to turn up. iPlayer is now just saying 'Not available'. I fear that Clarkson may have actually blown it this time; feelings in the UK are running pretty strongly, some defending him but an awful lot against, and expressed very strongly. Perhaps it's a good idea he's off to Australia next week (are these men never allowed to rest?)

Last time I checked, it was on thebox. My computer's being a buttwipe today though. Guess it's a good thing I have no interest in seeing it, but I can't upload it for those who want to see it at the moment either. I had a hard enough time making it all the way through The One Show when they had James on and well, I already know what happened this time.

Perhaps the best place to go while the kerfuffle dies down. UNISON want Jeremy sacked.

A lot of people who'd only heard part of what was said have calmed down a bit since the BBC had the idea of printing a full transcript of the exchange that caused all the trouble. For those who haven't seen it, this is what was said:
Matt Baker [presenter]: Well Jeremy, schools, hospitals, airports, even driving tests, have all been affected. Do you think the strikes have been a good idea?
Jeremy Clarkson [guest]: I think they have been fantastic. Absolutely. London today has just been empty. Everybody stayed at home, you can whizz about, restaurants are empty.
Alex Jones [presenter]: The traffic, actually, has been very good today.
Jeremy Clarkson: Airports, people streaming through with no problems at all. And it's also like being back in the 70s. It makes me feel at home somehow.
Matt Baker: Do you know anyone who has been on strike today?
Jeremy Clarkson: Of course I don't, no. What, somebody public service? No, I don't. No, absolutely. But we have to balance this though, because this is the BBC.
Matt Baker: Yes, exactly.
Jeremy Clarkson: Frankly, I'd have them all shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families. I mean, how dare they go on strike when they have these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed while the rest of us have to work for a living?
Matt Baker: Well, on that note of balancing an opinion, of course those are Jeremy's views.
Alex Jones: Only Jeremy's views.
Jeremy Clarkson: They're not. I've just given two views for you.
(the emboldening is the BBC's, the other formatting is mine for emphasis - because that last line, and the earlier part of the interview, have generally not been quoted - and the last line is rather key to the whole thing, even if it was a bloody stupid thing to say)

Oh right. For everyone who wants to see it.I beat my computer into some form of working so far. It really does not like me today, and it's a new machine! Hope I didn't mess that up. I am really really enjoying large amounts of tasty Oregon pinot noir right now. I recommend it to everyone. Unless you're about to drive.

This is an interesting article from the New Statesman, under the headline 'Why Unison is wrong to seek the sacking and arrest of Jeremy Clarkson' www.newstatesman.com/blogs/david-allen-green/2011/12/trade-union-clarkson-unisonAlso interesting that James is coming in for some support, such as on twitter 'Would not care if Clarkson gets sacked, Top Gear's driving force is James May, anyway' (and many others in similar vein). Finally I picked up this photo, taken today at Heathrow. I've actually edited it, as the other people in the photo were very young girls and my 'safeguarding' mode kicked in somehow; once a teacher, always a teacher I suppose. Perhaps I shouldn't be amused by the fact that Clarkson looks as if he hasn't slept - and James for some reason looks rather smug......

This country goes from the sublime to the ridiculous! You'd think that the British public would know how to take Jeremy by now. :-(
I was one of the thousands who withdrew their labour yesterday and Jezza's comments made me smile. Typical Jezza! I've also been a NALGO/UNISON member for over 27 years and if Unison insist on taking this further I am resigning. Last I knew citizens of the UK are entitled free speech.
What a waste of people's subs. Found out today that UNITE members are actually making a contribution to all their members for the loss of pay. Never have Unision done that for all their membership.
*Climbs off soapbox*
PS.... wonder which cigs James picked up in duty free???

I just watched it. That woman is dingbat material. Why did they have him on if they were so afraid of his views? It's not unexpected that he's going to make his usual type of remarks.

it was so funny! I did think the 'train suicide' comments would get more complaints though!
Just what Dr Clarkson ordered - loads of free publicity, just as he has a fab new DVD out for Christmas!

I agree about the train suicide, I originally thought that was what all the fuss was about.

I had mixed feelings on that bit - on the one hand, if someone feels pushed to suicide, it's a terrible state of affairs. On the other hand, I was trapped outside a railway station a few years ago because of a 'jumper', and the initial shock and dismay soon turned to considerably less charitable thoughts after the first two hours. If you knew what I was thinking at that point, you'd think Clarkson was a contender for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Bizarrely, the most irate and vocal person on the train was an American nun, in the full penguin garb. She kept running up and down the gangway shouting 'does anybody have a cellphone, I have to call the Bishop' and complaining that delays like this were intolerable...

I was on an Amtrak train going to Chicago in 1994. My son was with me and very excited. He was 10. About 30 miles outside of Chicago a 21 year old woman stepped in front of the train. We were in the dining car and felt a thump, of course we didn't know what that was at that time. The train stopped a 1/4 mile up from the body. We waited about 3 or 4 hours because the coroner was fishing somewhere and they had to find him, give the conductor a breathalyzer test, etc. It was very tragic. We could see her covered from the back of the train. Out of the whole trip that's the first thing my son remembers.

Having seen the whole piece in context I really do wonder what is going through the minds of the people who thought he was being serious? (I speak as one of the public servants - for another 6 working days - that he would have shot . When did the British have a sense of humour bypass? As for the train suicide comment.....I have been on a train in exactly the circumstances Jeremy quoted and I know where he is coming from. Yes, it's very sad that someone has taken their life in this way but I used to work on sickness benefits back in the day (now replaced by Incapacity benefit) and one of my customers never woked again after the same thing happening to him when he was a train driver. On the day that I was stuck on the West Coast mainline for almost three hours I watched the poor guys who had to scrape up the remains walking up and down outside the train picking up the (very small) pieces. Not a nice job

They have just been discussing Jeremy's comments on 'Question Time,' they had to balance it though because it is the B.B.C. On the subject of suicides on railway lines, our local station has a very long tunnel where people tend to wander if their mind is on suicide, or sometimes they jump from the bridges at either end of the tunnel. it is a single track line so the delays are usually very bad. As Inky says the train drivers suffer very badly.

I did a four-hour-round-trip commute for 25 years and I'm afraid our views on "jumpers" were less than charitable. However, I also worked briefly on the railways many years back, and the procedure was to stop the train and immediately take the driver off. They were often in pretty bad shape when they realised what had happened and it was deemed a bad idea to let them carry on with their journey. Obviously there was an inevitable delay while a relief driver was found to work the train After that, the whole scene was taken over by the police and their processes could take hours and hours. Longest ever delay for me though was actually caused by a herd of cows. Nasty, and off-topic.

What is really sad is that the UK (and the rest of Europe) is in the worst mess it has been for years and years but the one thing hitting the headlines is Jeremy making a typical 'Jeremy' comment on The One Show which is probably the worst show on the beeb
