On the James At The Grand National thread I posted, having also seen the Football Predictions webpage:
.....this is the same James May who has worked for BBC Sport three (count them, three) times in one week - Boat Show, Grand National, Football predictions. I smell a rat. A Man Lab sized rat, perhaps? Could it be a manly skill to be well-versed in various different sports?
Then
Hate to quote myself here, but I reckon I'm right, mainly due to the fact that the music running behind the entire Football Predictions video is the Man Lab theme. Plus when it gets to the end and says Play This Again? the two More Like This choices are the Grand National and Boat Race videos (as opposed to other football videos).
We have a segment of Man Lab series 3 here, methinks.
The more I think about this, the more I feel I'm right. It would be typical of James to choose a traditionally 'manly' activity like sport to investigate, knowing he's not good at it and has little knowledge about it.

He seems to be working on both shows at the same time. He certainly doesn't sit around contemplating his navel when Top Gear is on hiatus. Just hope he's also getting plenty of time to relax as well.

Remember that one of the things James did with BBC Sport was to take on football expert Mark Lawrenson with results predictions? Apparently he tied with the pundit, though that isn't quite as good as at sounds.... A correct result is worth ONE point, while a correct score earns THREE points.
Last weekend, Lawro took on Top Gear presenter James May and looked at games in the FA Cup, Premier League and Championship.
Lawro got three results right, with no perfect scores, and his score of three meant he finished in a dead heat with May [3]. Unfortunately, the highest score against Lawrenson has been 14 and James, at 3 points, is on the same level as Samuel L Jackson (who is American and therefore presumably doesn't know a hell of a lot about British football) and only just above Kermit and Miss Piggy. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17769281

Well done, whoever wrote those predictions down for James to read out! ;D
I'd be pretty embarrassed if I was Mark Lawrenson, though.

Oooh, he drove his Porsche AND he's wearing a T-shirt. I wish I was there to see him. ;-) Seconded. Now, bun throwing. I very much like the element of humour behind it, but I have to ask...how many gallons did someone have to drink to come up with such a warped idea? Was it a particularly boring year that year? You Poms... ;D
