Right. I know this is a little early, what with series 18 barely cold and all, but I thought it was worth posting, just to get the juices flowing a bit. There is some speculation that this blog might have got it wrong, and that it is actually the magazine that's doing the challenge but, hey ho! What's the harm, eh? Treat the news with a bit of caution, but enjoy trying to imagine all three of them having to share a single Toyota Hilux www.autoblog.com/2012/03/28/toyota-uk-says-top-gear-boys-to-go-on-another-hilux-adven/

On the Top Gear website they mention bears and mud.On the auto blog people were thinking the Sahara or Australia.

Toyotas are freaking durable-they've come a long way since the rustbuckets of the 80s.

Another teeny weeny hint, from what looks like an official Toyota blog blog.toyota.co.uk/toyota-hilux-conquers-antarctica-on-jet-fuelSo you don't have to read the whole thing, here is the relevant line: What’s next for the intrepid Hilux? Well, it looks like the Top Gear team have some ideas…It might still mean the magazine, or TG US, or something else..

I don't know where to put this interview as it's pretty wide-ranging and ostensibly to promote the forthcoming Durban festival, but the important bit is just after 8 minutes in when Jeremy says that he's looking forward to it as " it's about the only time the three of us are working together this year cos there's no Top Gear on this year".So it looks as if those of us who've applied to go to a filming are going to have an extremely long wait...... www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo0dpeQqXUg

I saw a tweet from some random person recently that said the same thing...no new TG until 2013.

Wonder what they were doing with that Hilux, then...
Oh well. Manlab and Toy Stories to look forward to before then and maybe - if we're lucky - we can watch Hammond being eaten by lions. ;D

I was depressed to hear this news as well. I read somewhere (don't recall where) that it was because the BBC is too busy scaling up for the Olympics. The author of the article pointed out that more people watch Top Gear than will probably watch the Olympics. I am quite bummed about this. It is going to be a very long wait!

so, the BBC don't care about those of us who are not interested in the Olympics, but yet we have to endure it.
I think we should demand the licence fee back and put it toward a flight to Durban.

Agreed, Liverbird: TG has been on tv for soooo many years and so many people watch it, they just can't do this to us ;-( And I have absolutely nothing with the Olympics..... UGH.

Nuuuuuu I know it's a great honour yada blah blah but - is it going to be all sport for two whole weeks, with nothing else at all? Some of us don't want wall-to-wall sport on TV.

That just seems weird. No TG at all because of two weeks of sport? I smell a Hamster rat. (But I'm also looking forward to the Olympics because it gives me yet another chance to annoy the crap out of everyone here: "I've been there!!" x100 ;D)

It's not just two weeks though - by the time the Paralympics is taken into account, the whole Olympic brou-ha-ha runs for about six weeks. What has also clobbered things a bit, I suspect, is the jubilee celebrations, the guys' other commitments and even sodding Wimbledon. Basically, one thing runs into another, equally boring, thing for most of the rest of the year, so the summer's clobbered not only in terms of scheduling, but also in terms of filming to an extent. Grrr... *haz a sad*

I have a very big sad too Wyvern. I can't really be bothered with the olympics, even though it is in England it seems very far away from me, not even bothered about the torch relay that does come near me. I am mildly interested in the Diamond jubulee, but only on the actual celebration day, not all the tours around the U.K. What I really am bothered about is there being no more TG this year - very sad indeed.

Straight from the horse's mouth (Jeremy)
There's a rumour in internet land that there will be no more Top Gears this year. I'm afraid that apart from an Xmas special, it's true.
Would love to be back in the Autumn but Sunday nights then will be full of fat people singing
The good news is that the longer we have to make the films, the better they will be.
We will be back in January
Top Gear is a medium sized van. Cowell is a juggernaut. When he has finished his singing competition, our new series will start.

A pronouncement from on high (well, Clarkson has tweeted)
"There's a rumour in internetland that there will be no more Top Gear this year. I'm afraid that apart from an Xmas special, it's true."
Also:
"Would love to be back in the autumn, but Sunday nights then will be full of fat people singing"
So, there you go. Chrissy special though - yowser!!
