For the first time ever, I actually want to meet my hero. I think I'm starting to feel a bit braver. I'm just worried that he'll think I'm an idiot or worse. (sorry, too much low self-esteem and low self confidence) I just can't make it there Thursday. I was going to see if there was any way at all I could make it there and back again, but the tube and train ride back to Thetford is such that I'll be too late picking my son up from school. I'm hoping that if there is another signing or event this year, that I'll be able to make it. I'll have to stick with commenting on his columns for now and hoping he doesn't think I'm an **s* and a bore.

Mojo, i don't think he would ever think that I hope there will be one you can make it to soon, i am sure there will be. I made an idiot of myself, and it was fun, broke the ice to a cool conversation ;D

Mo, the one person I wouldn't hestitate saying Yes go meet them is James (Richard or Jeremy ) James is like he is on TV but better because he is in front of you. Yes I said some pretty bizarre things to him but I sure he's used to the weirdness but it isn't a bad thing; it usually enhances the meeting. I'm sure there will be a signing closer to you soon . ;d

I have been rumbled! In a moment of hysteria about a missing a chance meeting with the lovely T.G. boys on Norfolk's back roads,I Emailed the other half with a link to the newspaper article. Hubby Emailed back,"I'm just glad you didn't find James May's hotel details." He knows!! Mind you I have been dropping hints,ie telling him, that I want the boxed set of Oz 'n' James's wine adventures for Mother's day.......... and watching the booze cruise on iplayer.................... and insisting on viewing reruns of T.G. on Dave............ I wonder what gave it away?

Somewhere I can confess!!!!
No one in the whole wide world knows of my obsession with the lovely James... well except my 2 doggies but not sure if they count? MOH has no idea (I think?) and would probably think I was a bit mad if he did....
As it stands MOH thinks I'm a cool wife cos I love to watch car programmes (TG) and "educational" stuff like Big Ideas & 20th Centuary. As for the Toy programmes... well we both like to act like kids so of course it's the toys I want to see....
Am desperatly trying to think of reasons why we should get the Oz & James Wine series...
I'm a grown woman.... feel a bit like a teenager with a silly crush......

Sorry From Afar... I'm lucky enough to have a hubby who not only tolerates my love for James, but likes him himself ;D As far as watching 'Oz n James' is concerned... all I can suggest is become an alcoholic?

I "came out" about my May addiction to Mom last Sunday on the phone. I told her about the Airfix episode and how he got all the kids to make him a lifesize Spitfire and her response was "Oh, what else has he been on?"
I might convert Mom to the cause!

Am desperatly trying to think of reasons why we should get the Oz & James Wine series... Well, unless you belong to a religious denomination that eschews alcohol, how about 'for educational purposes'. If you can get past the silliness and the sight of James in a thong, you will actually learn quite a bit about wine, which will help you make better choices when you buy it, which will make drinking it more enjoyable. Of course, watching Oz and James with a glass of decent wine to hand is the best arrangement of all. (If you don't do wine, get Oz and James Drink To Britain. They drink all kinds of things in that, after all!)

Hmmm - I'm assuming YOH doesn't like wine or beer enough to assist your cover-up? I have to say I have an identical problem. Mr Crumbs enjoys watching the programmes but in no way would he want the DVDs and would think it very odd if I requested them. Can't fess up to him - I just know he wouldn't like it. So I stay firmly in the closet.

Liz becoming an alcoholic is always an option LOL.....
Thanks Wyvern for the tips - we're not really wine drinkers but I think the "Dring to Britain" option is a good idea.... MOH would like that for sure and then off the back off that I can suggest the "wine" series for educational purposes... that sounds like a plan!!!!
Crumbs - I'm with you on the not being able to fess up.... but at least we can stick together here!

Hehe, I'm well out of the closet these days, especially since the postman brought my Toy Fair ticket to the house yesterday - in an envelope with TOH's name all over the front (as I'd had to use his paypal account to pay for it : . He now runs around the house (on occasion) flapping his hands and squealing "JAMES!! JAMES!" and pretending to faint. Not at all funny.

My neighbor is to blame for my obsession with James May. It's all his fault, and I bless him every day for it!! ;D He downloaded Drink to Britain and Series 12 for MOH last April. At first I wasn't too interested. Had never heard of James or Oz. Had not been truly interested in cars. MOH was watching Drink To Britain one day, and I had nothing to do, so I watched a couple episodes. James was so interesting and witty. I was hooked! Unbeknowst to me, this was only the beginning. I didn't view Top gear until last May. I now have downloaded each series and purchased several of the challenge dvds. Since we live in the US, I have series 10-12 complete on dvd now. I have mentioned to MOH that I think James is attractive, intelligent and interesting. I'm not sure he understands completely how I feel, but here's the interesting bit. Several months ago, he started refusing to watch Top Gear. He got angry whenever he came into our living room and found me watching an Oz and James program. There would be long and loud sighs followed by, "Are you watching that again?" I couldn't mention anything I had seen and wanted to share with him. Not even interesting tidbits about cars! I suppose I should say that James is MOH's favorite TG presenter. Up until last September he'd watch a TG epsiode or so per day. He'd put in Drink to Britain while he was working around the house just to have something interesting to listen to or stop to watch for a moment. Then it all stopped cold turkey! A friend of ours and I came up with a theory that I'd like to put to you ladies. We think that MOH was aware that I liked James and began to feel threatened by him. It would account for his 180 degree turn against anything with James in it. Normally I don't tell MOH if I find someone attractive. Mainly because I don't seem to care much about the actors on television and in movies of today. I've never really been a "crush" sort of person. Strangely enough, he started watching Top Gear again around Christmas time. He's been watching it again almost every day ever since. He knows that I am a member here and has read some posts with me about the different episodes of Top Gear. I've certainly not let him read anything more than that! ;D He's not aware of what really goes on here! I'm glad that this board is here so I can read about other people's ideas and feelings, plus vent some of my own. I don't really have anyone I can tell about my obsession. Very few people I know have seen Top Gear or even care. But I'm still perplexed by MOH's reaction to James. For goodness sake, we live in the US. I don't see myself going to the UK any time in the near future. James will not one day appear in my front garden asking for directions because he's lost. The TG3 will not be walking down the street searching a good filming spot. There will be no book signings or events for me to attend anywhere near here. There is very little chance that I will ever meet any of them. I think MOH started watching Top Gear again because he just couldn't help himself anymore. He'd see bits and pieces while I was watching and just hot hooked again. His will power finally gave out! Sorry to go on sooooo very long. I didn't realize how long this post was until I reread it before posting. Thanks for taking the time to read this - if you get through it all!

Feign an interest in Hammond, maybe? Make snide little comments about James, and if MOH defends him, pretend you've been swayed to the cause?

Interesting story devil-may-care. I know I'll never admit to my crush for James to MOH. I'm lucky because MOH enjoys TG and all the shows James is in so I don't need to hide to watch them. I really don't know what he'd say if he knew I visited this site let alone posted comments. I'm not going to put that to the test.
Even though YOH may realise that sadly you'll never meet James it's probably still a kind of jealously thing. I guess his ego may have been dented for a while to think his lady finds another man gorgeous. Perhaps after a few months he realised that it's quite 'normal' for people to have a crush on a TV personality, perhaps he has one on somebody too.
I admitted to a very long term male friend about my crush for James and even he went a bit weird on me for a while. Now he just teases me and plays along with my 'obsession'.

Thanks brycegold. I hadn't really thought about MOH's ego. I sometimes forget that male egos are so fragile. I do know that he finds certain women on television and in movies attractive. He doesn't keep that to himself. But I wouldn't categorize them as obsessions. He likes Annie Potts, Helen Hunt and Fiona Bruce, just to name a few. I could care less really. I'm sometimes surprised that he tells me so readily that he finds an actress/presenter attractive, but it ends there. I'm reasonably sure that MOH thinks that I just like James, find him attractive for several reasons, but that's it. I honestly don't think MOH thinks I would ever obsess about another person. How wrong some people can be! ;D I suppose as long as he enjoys Top Gear and the many and varied programs that James produces, what difference does any of it make. I still get to watch! Some say... what you don't know, can't hurt you! ;D

I'm not a closet Mayhemer anymore though I was from early last spring when to my utter amazement I found I'd developed this huge crush (OK, I admit: an obsession) for Captain Slow until early December when I told my hubby everything. It was after an argument when I was really upset with my hubby. I changed the wallpaper on my computer (now it's James sitting on his amphibious Triumph Herald), I showed him all the masses of pictures and YouTube downloads I have of James, and in a very unapologetic tone of voice asked him if he'd really been so blind he hadn't noticed what had been going on with me for so many months, to which he muttered "blind and deaf". ;D I don't think he minds too much, he's pretty used to me having a celebrity crush. After all, I had one (for an American rock musician) for 14 years... ;D He used to tease me about that one, sometimes mercilessly, but I haven't heard too much about James yet. And he still watches Top Gear with me, as he's a huge fan of the show and of all three presenters. I have loads of TG episodes on DVR, and I'm planning on burning mix DVDs of them with the title of "The best of Top Gear featuring James May", and I also have the second series of the Wine Adventures on DVR heading for the same treatment but I can't do all of it by myself. I always need hubby's help in plugging the cables for the picture from the DVR and for the sound from the receiver of the stereo system into the computer, and in the burning process as well. When I told him of my plans he announced he wouldn't be helping me in any way; if I want it done I must do it all alone. He was feigning anger though, I've known the man for nearly 21 years now, and I know him pretty well. Whenever the time comes to burn those DVDs, he'll be there with the cables. And not only does my hubby know about my recent obsession, I have a thread on an international message board I'm a member of in which I've been declaring my affection for the gorgeous Mr May since August. At first I indeed was in a closet on there but I came out in November and it's been out in the open ever since then. It's the most wonderful feeling. Edit: Hubby doesn't know I'm a member on this board. Somehow I want to keep it as a secret from him, and never visit this board when he's around. Weird?

Good for you, xsarabee! As I've stated in my previous posts here, MOH knows I like James and think he's attractive. He's not aware of the obsession part. I don't even feel the need to tell him. Since he knows my favorite is James, I don't have to pretend to be watching any of his programs for the "educational" content. Even though I really enjoy that part too! So I guess this makes me a half-closet mayhemer! If you don't mind my asking, xsarabee - who was the American musician you had an obsession with? Being an American, I'm intrigued.

I was out of the closet (not that I'd ever been in it) long before I got together with the (not so very) New Man. I've known him for years and he even went to the Hay Festival with me 20 months ago, when James was there. He will happily watch anything with James in with me. Maybe not some of the chat shows, but he wouldn't get upset about me watching them. He likes girls with long slim legs, which I don't have, and those of you that have met him will know he has far, far less hair than James. I pointed out to him that we know that I don't just love him for his hair and he doesn't just love me for my legs, therefore we're allowed to notice those elements in other people... I do tease him when a pair of long legs walks past though

If you don't mind my asking, xsarabee - who was the American musician you had an obsession with? Being an American, I'm intrigued. Not at all. Ever heard of the band R.E.M.? My 14-year-old obsession was with Mike Mills, the bass player of the band. I can post a pic of him in the Adultery thread. I met the guy once, in Stockholm in 1998. I have a picture of myself with him, his arm on my shoulder squeezing me tight. He has a reputation of being a true ladies' man, and he was flirting also with me that night. My husband took the picture, and by that point he didn't have a clue - only after we got back home from Sweden he started to see the light. I'd been obsessing about Mills for about four years by that time, and my hubby didn't know about it at all. So either he's truly blind or I'm very good at keeping secrets. ;D I forgot to say in my last post that though hubby knows now about my pics and videoclips of James, he doesn't know what goes on inside my head. My thoughts are private and that's how I intend to keep it though he's always said he's not the jealous type. But to avoid any misunderstandings: I do love my husband very much and we've been married for close on 18 years. I know, too, that there are ladies out there who my hubby likes to ogle at: they usually are intelligent looking brunettes like Gillian Anderson of X Files fame. I let my hubby have his fantasies and I can only hope he lets me have mine. edit: one funny coincidence: my husband turns 47 next week, so he's exactly 21 days younger than James. Now why am I so much attracted to men born in early 1963?! ;D

xsarabee - I loved REM when I was in high school and college. MOH went to one of their concerts when he was in high school (I didn't know him then).
I agree about not telling MOH what goes on in my mind. About anything really. Our thoughts move way too fast and on such a variety of topics, I'd never be able to tell him everything anyway. There have been times when I've wondered where certain thoughts come from. Let alone telling him about the ones about James! ;D
My husband and I will be celebrating our 15th anniversary this September. Been together for 20 years altogether.
He has his fantasies, I'm sure. I've got mine. Everyone's happy! ;D
