I've just finished watching "George Gently" on BBC. Quite dreadful. I've annoyed myself by watching the whole series (only four episodes, thankfully) even though it's been some of the most unsubtle writing and acting I've seen in a long time, including thrusting 21st century 'issues' into every storyline despite it being set in the 1960s.
Tonight was just astonishing - we were expected to believe that our pacifist, gentle (get it in the name, yeah, if we haven't grasped it already) copper would suddenly be wandering around armed, getting involved in shootouts, with the end result having enough dead bodies to rival the last act of Hamlet. Wonder if anyone will survive to make a new series? Do I care?
And before anyone says, "Why did you watch it, then", I am weak and like to know where a storyline's going. Though in this case, no-where.

The joys of being off work No. 497.
I just found an animated kids' show called The Adventures of Abney and Teal. There's a character in it called Neep, who appears to be an animated radish.
TV was never like this when I was a kid

There have been 2 back-to-back "Sharpe" movies on TV tonight. I'm lovin' me some Sean Bean!

I love Sean Bean and the Sharpe movies. I have seen every one of them. What channel were they on?

I had the TG Top 40 on, but then switched to watch the live jump from space. That was bloody exciting! Now back to the Top 40

I've just watched this, it was quite amazing, all that way falling and then he landed on his feet . Do you know if he broke the sound barrier? The speed suggested he might have, but it was still to be confirmed last I heard.

Eshalda, he did break the sound barrier. That put a spoke in TOH's wheel, who was trying to explain 'terminal velocity' to me. I know what it means. And I know that Felix Thingy-whotsisface just threw the whole terminal velocity theory right out ;D Tomorrow, I will hopefully be watching my friend Laura on Alan Titmarsh's show on ITV. 3pm guys and gals ^^ any of you know who know what my favourite hobby is will now her as soon as you see her

BBCA is showing James and Richard's "At the Movies" tonight (11/5) at 8:30 pm. Crap missed it. Looks like it'll be on again Thursday. DVR ready to go. Did this show ever appear on BBC UK?

I watched last night. Thought it was OK but not great. Lots of repetition from the regular series. And too much Richard and not enough James.

Tell ya what was GOOD. "Richard Hammond's Miracles of Nature" last night on BBC 1. Well written and engaging. My daughter actually stopped texting while it was on...well, for a little while at least.

It was actually their Christmas DVD a couple of years ago, I believe. The Jet-Powered Man vs Skoda Rally Car was recycled from "At the Movies" into Season 18, if I've got my timeline right.
Some of the previews indicate that BBCA will be showing Top Gear Apocalypse later on. Also a Christmas DVD. But funny.
I'm so glad I set my computer to play Region 2 DVDs.

Went to see Skyfall today. Anyone seen it...got an opinion?
I'm inclined to agree with Jeremy when he said it was a good movie, but was it a Bond movie? Seeing a Bond movie used to be a joyous occasion, packed cinemas with lots of laughter and cheering. It all seems a bit po-faced nowadays.
I enjoyed the "change of vehicle" though

I've just watched an excellent documentary on BBC1 under the 'Imagine' series banner about the writer Jeanette Winterson, talking about her life, especially her Lancashire childhood, with Alan Yentob. One of my favourite writers, one of my favourite people.

Torchwood on Netflix. Only seen a few random episodes before & completely forgot how great this is. Captain Jack Harkness certainly is one of the greatest characters of popular culture.. Not as good as DrWho, of course, but great nonetheless.

Marginally off topic, but does anyone else want to strangle the girl who's doing the advert for Dolce & Gabbana The One perfume? Apparently it's Scarlett Johansson. I looked it up on YouTube and the version there is so pretentious that it actually makes me nauseous. www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_Lj58hsOO4"My favourite part of my body? I like my lips....for kissing...." "I do all my own stunts....even lovemaking...." Aargh! Edit: Oh, and can I also please include the word 'simpering'?

I finally sat down to watch Life on Mars. Watched the first two episodes last night. I was pleasantly surprised. It was very good. Now I see what all the fuss about John Simm is about. ;D
