That was really sweet. That's one of the nicest comments to someone else's comment I've seen in a long time.

I like the way it has become more of a cookery column this week ...
Just to add to that, Dutch, you don't have to fry mushrooms if you don't want a lot of fat in the mix, you can cook them in a very little bit of water and stock powder - with some crushed garlic if you want. Keep your eye on it and let the water cook off till there is a slightly syrupy sthingyful or so left. This way of doing them smells very good and they taste excellent. If you then throw in the cheese sauce, or just creme fraiche, (soured cream in Holland, - ?? zure room??), and a handful of grated cheese, you get a really nice easy sauce.
The pan is no trouble to wash up, either!
Ummmmm... If this should have gone on the Recipe Thread I'll move it.

Thanks Shortie and yes zure room. Well done. You learning Dutch? No, but I have several Dutch friends and we were around them a lot a few years ago. I speak some German which helps a bit and although if I make any attempt to speak Dutch it comes out of my mouth in the form of Chinese Radio - no-one can understand it - I do, generally know what is being said and can work out instructions and some written stuff. When we lived in Germany we used to have Dutch TV as well.

I still haven't managed to make his cheesy pasta but I did go to the shop on the way home from work on Wednesday night. I bought the essentials (milk, bread etc) and driving out, I remembered I forgot to buy the bloody pasta. So...that was a roast vegies and homemade pie night instead

James has responded again in this week's column. He explains how to make the cream and deal with the eggs.

See, when I explain carbonara that way, no bugger listens, so from now on I think I'll just say, "James May says..." and point them to his response.
And then I'll paint a fresco on my kitchen wall with all the leftover egg white.

So now I can tell him to sod off whinging becuase James May's receipe has no cream in it at all and James is always right.

Can't be doing with fussy male eaters, especially when they don't do much cooking. My ex ate everything! He was soooo useful! That's the great thing about something classic like a carbonara: you can put in/take out nearly everything by choice. James' lack of cream is good classic choice.
