Ah, Ly... personally, I shall never forget those three blokes with the lawnmower, proving that whenever three men are gathered around something with an engine all efforts are doomed to failure. The Floatel was also the only hotel I've ever navigated by smell. And yet I'm really miffed it won't be there this year, even though they didn't know how to make tea.

From Frank Melling... Thundersprint Organiser!
'Dear Liz As far we know, James will be riding. We have his signed entry form and he has also verbally committed to coming too. However, his filming commitments naturally have first call so there is always a chance he will be called away. If he is, then we will have to live with this situation. Thank you for your kind comments which are much appreciated. Please come across to Race Control and say hello. Best wishes Frank Please let all the other JM fans know that the lad will be with us. I wouldn't any of you to miss out.'

James May at the Thundersprint
The Thundersprint attracts many stars and celebrities but there are none more popular than the relaxed and charming James May, co-presenter of the BBC’s "Top Gear" programme. Although an expert on cars, and renowned for his hilariously laconic assessments of all that’s new in the world of four wheels, James is a dedicated bike fan and rates the Thundersprint as one of his favourite events of the year.
James will return to Northwich on May 10 with his mighty 1964, 87cc Honda which produces a breathtaking 6.5 bhp. James will line up with six times World Champion Jim Redman and Double World Champion, James Toseland.
James (May, rather than Toseland) said: ‘When I crest Castle Hill in Northwich in my borrowed van, and see the town spread out below me like Camelot, I will know that my faithful charger, the 87cc Honda C200, has arrived at its spiritual home."
Asked about his racing achievements on the mighty Honda James listed doing 45mph on the A4, changing the oil and finishing a very close next to last in the 2007 Thundersprint.
Truly,"Mad Dog May", as James likes to be known when he is racing, will bring a very special presence to the Thundersprint start line.

Yes I too had a letter similar to this one, it would be such a job for my first time experiance at Thundersprint to see James ride there. "Mad Dog May", where on earth did he dig that one up from?

Me thinks that is something that may be the product of one too many down the local ;D Anyway, I'm thinking of going to the Thundersprint this year (if I can convince t'other half) is it a good day out?

I cancelled last year, when James did... I couldn't justify the expense if he wasn't going... let's keep our fingers crossed for this year! Did see the programme on the 2007 event... it looks fantastic fun! ;D

It is a BRILLIANT day out! There's stuff going on all day - live music, random Morris dancing (Hmm... there's a thought, anyone fancy re-inventing the art by formation driving old Oxfords?), rides and stalls, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight... Last Thundersprint was the first time I saw an R8 in the metal too! Oh, and there are some motorbikes... The cavalcade is well worth watching for the noise alone, and then of course you've got the Thundersprint itself. What struck me is how different from other bike events it was. It's so inclusive and the atmosphere is brilliant! They described it very well when they said Thundersprint is more about Maypole dancing than pole dancing (and last year we found a Maypole to prove it...). Everyone can have fun, and not just big, hairy, tattooed stereotypes (with apologies to big, hairy, tattooed stereotypes). As a day out, it's definitely one I'd recommend ;D

Alas I have a blooming wedding to go to in Totnes on the saturday Totnes is lovely... but I know it's way too far away to just nip back to Northwich because I have to pass through it to get there if I go by train, as looks likely. Some nice pubs there though. And there is a fantastic vintage clothes shop called Revival, which is well worth a visit if you get a chance!

I really want to go this year. To be honest I have avoided anything remotely motorbikey (if there is such a word!) since my brother died on one, but I really want to get back into it. It of course has nothing to do with James being there at all!!

I kind of get where you're coming from, though not to the awful extent you have, and I'm sorry that happened to your brother. It was quite a big deal for me to go to Thundersprint last year because I had a nasty smash a number of years ago and I have what I can only describe as 'bike fear'. I'm getting there though

Aww Wy, *hugs*
On a lighter and happier note, after delicate negociations i.e. me promising to go to a concert of a band I have never heard of in my life, fiancee has agreed to come with me, but to drive up there, book a room so I can go on Saturday as well, AND invited my wonderful sister and her husband along to!
I love being engaged! ;D

Well, it's even more special than the one Jezza had on the Christmas 2007 show... mine's a vintage version (i.e. I've had it forever and it's so old the 350z doesn't even feature on the design), less well fitting and even more horrid!
