Is it too early to mention this? May 9th/10th 2009. www.thundersprint.com. I wonder if James will be able to make it this year, and are any of you planning to go again?

It probably needed a new thread at some point - we've had the dates for 2009 on the 2008 thread for a while, so it's about time it got its own!
I'm definitely planning to go again, exam schedule permitting, regardless of whether or not Mr May can make it, as it was a bloody fantastic weekend and I had a great time. Hopefully, there will be somewhere to stay in Northwich once the Floatel closes down...

I'm surprised the Floatel is still there to be honest. Northwich doesn't have a tourist trade to speak of, nor does it have any real business connections. Apart from the Thundersprint weekend, I can't see how anybody would want or need to stay in Northwich overnight. There are a few pubs etc that offer overnight accommodation, but it is a bit hit or miss. The Curious Orange that you all went to last time has closed down. Northwich is fast becoming a ghost town

The Curious Orange has closed? Come to London - you'd make a fortune.

The Curious Orange has closed? Come to London - you'd make a fortune. Oh no It was a superb restaurant. That's really sad. As for the HelltelFloatel, I know it was on it's last legs but the staff were great and breakfast was good. I draw the line at camping. There must be a Travelodge/Travel Inn somewhere in the area. I had a fab weekend, James or no James. I'm trying to persuade my mates hubbie to enter his lovely old bike. Trouble is that if he goes, I'm needed at home to look after his doggies. Why is life always complicated?

Thundersprint 2009 is def on my "To Do" list. When I spoke to the Floatel staff, they said they didn't know when it was closing, but it would probably be around May. If they have any sense at all, they'll keep it open for that weekend & give it a good send off.
Not sure I'm quite up for camping.

I'm not adverse to camping in general, just camping in Britain! OK, so it's easier to get tent pegs into mud, but it's far less pleasant to sleep in!

Here we go: www.thundersprint.co.uk/I didn't realise that the small motorbike featured in the acclaimed "James in Leather" thread photos is James' own beloved Moto Guzzi! I really like it. The small motorbikes are so much more approachable than the big, loud Harleys. Does James usually participate in this event every year?

Does James usually participate in this event every year? He's been to two of the last three years, although had to pull out of last year's event owing to TG filming commitments in Japan.... fingers crossed for 2009! ;D

The Guzzi is much bigger. It's the one with the panniers in the "James in leathers from behind" photo. I think he tries to participate every year. BBC permitting...

The one with the 30 on it is the Guzzi? I prefer the little Honda meself. Maybe James will put it up on Ebay some day.

Maybe, but beware, if he finds you he might buy it back again (as happened with the Guzzi).

Ugh shudders with revulsion - I'd have to endure meeting him twice then? You know I'd hate that. And if I didn't agree to sell the bike back to him, I suppose he'd be calling me on the phone or e-mailing me. No, no - it's simply not worth it.

It's only the venue for camping that has changed as far as I can see. The Thundersprint will still be in the centre of Northwich. Camping site this year was a couple of miles out of the town centre (I know, I walked there after the stupid woman in the Tourist Information told us it was 'easy walking distance')

Camping site this year was a couple of miles out of the town centre (I know, I walked there after the stupid woman in the Tourist Information told us it was 'easy walking distance') It looks like camping has been cancelled altogether now. The story hasn't been updated on the Northwich guardian website yet, but basically Frank Melling has turned down the offer of £6000 and use of Verdin Park. Locally people were up in arms about the offer because Thundersprint is a business and set to make a nice profit from the event, so people didn't agree with giving them £6000 from rate payers money. To be honest, I have to agree.
