Thirded ;D They are amazing people to go into a mine and do the job they do anyway, let alone what they have been through.

I don't know which I liked more of the wives and girlfriends -- the ones who leaped up and down and cried or the ones who stood there and just smiled a little.
I remember watching the third or fourth one to come up and his wife was there -- middle aged, not pretty, but she looked so quietly happy, almost beatific, that it transformed her appearance into something really beautiful. And I was astonished at the bravery of the rescue workers getting into, in effect, a coffin and letting themselves be buried down there, knowing that if anything went wrong they would be stuck.

I have watched this rescue with the greatest of interest and was delighted when everything went so smoothly. It is beyond any doubt that the anxieties and sufferings that the miners and their families have been through has been huge, but I would also like to heap praise on the Minister for Mines, who refused sleep until he had seen every miner rescued safely, also the President who, apart from doing a wonderful PR job, showed genuine euphoria as every miner reached the surface. I also want to heap praise on the three paramedics and two rescuers who went down the mine to assist the miners, what brave men. I t set me thinking that perhaps a decade or so ago the miners would have been thought unrecueable, and left to their fate in the mine. Thank God we have the knowledge and expertise today to carry out such a daring rescue.

I'm putting my little sister on the pedestal. She hasn't averted a crisis or rescued any trapped miners, but she got me a ticket to see Take That next summer and I never even had to ask (I think she saw how miffed I was when she went last year and didn't think to ask if I wanted to go)! This makes me very happy indeed ;D

That was sweet of her. I hope you enjoy the concert. Sometimes I think it must be rather nice to have siblings. As long as you get on with them OK, of course!

I would like to put days off on the Pedestal. They are too few and far between but that makes them all the more valuable when they do come around (like today ).

I saw that too, so sad to see him poorly. But what a character he was, brought back lots of memories for me watching Trumpton and Play Away
A well deserved award to a wonderful man.

I would like to put all the general public on a pedastall who finally realised that "Strictly..." is a dance competition and not a popularity contest and voted the dancers to stay and Ann Widdy to go home. I'm sure she is a lovely lady and Anton deserves a medal for being such a sport but it was getting a bit daft.... Anyway here's to the gen public for voting correctly.... eventually ;D Apologies to any Widdy fans ;D

I'd like to put on the pedestal the person who sent the following text message to the Metro newspaper:-
Calories are the little monsters who get into your wardrobe at night and sew your clothes tighter while you're asleep. My wardrobe is infested with them.

Apparently not by a 98 year old, but none the less effective (and funny) for that. I shall be sending it to a number of friends, who I know will appreciate it! Thanks, xjsarah.

I would like to put NHS Direct in here. The man (who is very particular about his teeth and has regular check ups etc,) developed tooth ache last night in a tooth that has previously had work done on it. As today progressed his gum started to swell, as did his face. I'phoned NHS Direct and got quick reponse. They said a dental nurse would' phone him back within the hour, She did. He was told he would be 'phoned within the next hour to be given an emergency dental appointment, he was. The appointment was at 9pm where he was told he has an abcess under his wisdom tooth, and was given antibiotics and told the tooth needed to come out. The dentist gave him the option of having the tooth out later tonight, or going to his own dentist to have it out, he chose the latter. All this service cost the regular NHS fee of £16.50. Now that is what i call a great service.

I would like to put on a pedestal whoever it was at "We Buy Any Car.com" who decided we could live no longer with the "Sponsoring motoring on Dave" idents. I was quite willing to shoot the silly tart in pink. The sound of car doors, in contrast, is quite soothing.
Now, can anyone sort out the cartoons that accompany the Confused.com "Somebody to Love" advert?

I also noticed that they were different. About bloody time! I'd like to put my new boyfriend on the pedestal, if I may. Just because he's been so lovely thus far! ;D

My Boss's Boss can go on the padestal because she's agreed to me taking a day off in September, just when we're at our busiest, to go to York for a gig.
There was a certain amount of self interest involved - if she hadn't, she'd have had to put up with me being miserable because I couldn't go on the trip! But she still qualifies ;D

OK, this is really sad... Sweet at The Duchess on 16th September.
I've been wanting to go to York for a while, just to see the town & having a reeason to visit & not being able to was just a bit too much for me!

The garage I was put onto when my exhaust pipe fell off the other week. Firstly for fixing it so quickly but also for passing my bike's MOT and doing the silly little things that were needed there & then, rather than making me take it away, do them myself and then take it back again.

I'm putting my father in law on a pedestal. He is so kind and generous. I've been feeling sick all day today and he came up to my house to watch the kids while I slept. When I woke up he had made lunch for the kids, put my daughter down for a nap, washed all the dishes and cleaned up the play room. He is just the best.... I'll be more than happy if my husband is just like his dad in 30 years time!! I'm a very lucky lady

I want to put my husband in here. It may seem corny but here is why: I know that I often take him for granted. We have been together for 18 years (15 married) and I often lament the fact that things are "routine" and "boring". But he is always there, he supports me through all of my ups and downs and all of my medical problems which is a lot. And every now and then he really reminds me why I love him. The other day I was at my weekly Jenny Craig "weigh in". The center is near where he works and he was driving between buildings. He knew that it was the time of day that I usually have my appointment so he stopped by the center and left a note in my car that said "Russel loves Manda" with a big heart around it. At first when I saw the paper hanging from my visor from the side, I wondered how someone had broken into my car without smashing the window and why all they did was leave a note. ;D But then I read it and it just made my day. I did let him know how much I appreciated it but I guess I just wanted to share that.
