That's really great, Wy! I really envy people who have such wonderful relationships with their parents. It can sometimes be the most difficult relationship to cultivate.
And Nat, it's wonderful that you have such supportive family and friends! ;D

I'm going to put my brother on here. He helps me financially when necessary, paid for my plane tickets to Europe and back, paid my rent etc. Getting work is hard. He has put up with tons of bs and taken it in stride. He has his own construction company and always has practical advice that I try to use.

Just realised I love this thread. We moan everyday about random stuff but every now and then a small gesture of support, love or kindness comes along to just pick you up again. I'd like more of that.xx

I'd like more of that.xx That was why the thread was created really - not just that it's good to acknowledge good things, but that it's nice to share them, because it's not all doom and gloom And it's lovely to see what great families and friends the people of this board have. Good news is great to read.

I'd like more of that.xx I'm putting a few of my close friends on the pedestal because they've just done exactly as you've stated above. Caught up with them tonight, and for once, I didn't feel judged or patronised because I'm going through a bit of a rough patch. Instead, they've rallied around me in a way that I haven't known for a long time. Props to them!

My day is going very well so far - DMC has been very, very mad again and sent me another package filled with tons of presents, seriously, I have never received that many presents at once..! I dont know why I deserve her really, she's way too good for this world! I know love can't be expressed by gifts only, but she's always also VERY caring and writes me very long messages whenever I need her. Anyway, ohw, I should have written this in the Pedestal thread ;D Oh well... THANKS A LOT DMC!! There's a package pretty much on its way to the USA *does it for you nat* In very full agreement that DMC goes on the pedestal. She sent me an awesome package of stuff for my birthday, including a bottle of London Pride (which I haven't drunk yet, think I'm saving it for Christmas) since I really REALLY wanted to try it out and I can't buy it anywhere where I live. I need to return the favor as soon as I can. Thanks DMC, and stay awesome.

I would like to put on the pedestal the person who said I didn't look old enough to be at a Slade gig. I pointed out that I was born the same year Merry Christmas Everybody was released and when I pointed out how old this made me, she was genuinely surprised ;D

I am putting my massage therapy teacher Sonia up here. She is a wonderfully patient and flexible instructor (and is British to boot) who also wants me to be her TA next semester b/c I am learning the material so quickly and helped teach some of the muscle groups and bones to the students who have a harder time with English. I can ask her the same question 10 minutes later and she doesn't get frustrated with me, and if something I am doing isn't working for me, she goes, "Ok, then... how else can we do it so it will work for you?" She is awesome and she wants her students to succeed and genuinely wants to work with us. She has the right mindset for this profession. I always look forward to being in her class. I hope she never retires. ;D I can TA for up to 40 hours which goes toward my next level of massage therapy that I don't have to pay for (the next level is 550 hours, but 40 of it can be done through being a TA). Since money is harder to come by, being a TA will help me out a lot. She made my day and I absolutely adore her. She also tells me that a lot of Scottish and British guys live around Santa Monica...I need to go down there sometime...

Having a good teacher always makes learning something so much easier and more fun. I've been lucky enough to have some excellent teachers.

I'm sure my OH is already on the Pedestal, but I'd like to take this opportunity to reaffirm his place here. He bought me an iPod Nano for Christmas. 'Nuff said. ;D

My co-workers R and H who both gave me rides home from work this week after shifts ended and spared me the 2 hours that taking the bus home would have necessitated. Very much appreciated ladies. And as a gift to them, I'm going to take the pedestal and whack our jerk of a manager upside the head with it.

That's awesome your coworkers gave you a lift home, Meimi. Over the years, some of my closest friends were coworkers first.

every one of the athletes taking part in the paralympic games!
what an amazing bunch of people! Some of the physical stuff they are doing would put fully able-bodied people in the shade!
Incredible!

Hear hear! I've declared wheelchair basketball my new favourite sport. The basket is the same height as for the regular game, tipping over your opponents' chairs is a legitimate tactic (they just get right up again) and it's played at about twice the speed. Brilliant viewing. If you haven't seen it yet, give it a try.

I wish I could see some of it but we are too concentrated on frigging politics to see it! Is it coincidence both donkeys and the elephants have their conventions now?

Wheelchair basketball is awesome - though if you want full-contact wheelchair sport, I believe the rugby is on Tuesday. Now that's a good laugh, though rather dangerous. Then again, as one woman on the GB squad, who found herself in a wheelchair after an injury, said, "I've broken my neck already - what else could happen?!"

And DMC has earned herself a return trip on top of the pedestal for sending me the BEST BIRTHDAY GIFT EVER. Thank you, I really really love it! (for all you Trek fans out there, she got me a signed photograph from Nichelle Nichols. I will NEVER make that up. And now I need a frame so when my Trek friends come by to visit they can be royally envious as heck...the few who still aren't ;D)

I am putting my dad on the pedestal, partly because he's my dad and I love him, but specifically because, as some of you know, I have recently started writing for a website called Speedmonkey, and I'm currently working on an article about Ford Cortinas. My dad - you've guessed it - had one of those, but his was rather heavily modified, so I asked him to tell me what he'd done to it. Today he sent me a wonderful email, not only detailing what he'd done, but pretty much perfect to incorporate into a column and really putting across how much his old car meant to him. It was so far beyond what I'd asked him for. Thanks, Dad <3

I'm putting my husband up on a pedestal for everyone to see. Like I said in the Sin Bin, I have had tendonitis since mid December, and basically been properly useless. So my husband has done everything: Cleaning/decorating for Christmas, buying/wrapping/making Christmas presents, cooking dinner every day, cleaning, washing clothes, dishes, taking out the garbage, shopping, driving everywhere, lifting and fetching whatever I have needed him to, and basically everything else for almost 2 months. And also looking after me, stopping me from "just moving this thing here" etc. He's the best there is, and I can't believe how lucky I am. And it's not like he's freshly infatuated with me either, we've been together for 20 years this spring.

Putting our very own Mayfayre on the Pedestal, together with her OH and my dad and my eldest nephew. Over the last couple of weeks, I've been in the process of organising a house move, and it has been fraught with complications throughout, but today it finally happened. And Mayfayre drove me all the way here in a Transit with my stuff, and my dad and my nephew came up from Devon with stuff I'd had in storage. It made it so much better to have people who cared helping me to move, and MF has been there every time I've been tearful or panicking that I was making a huge mistake. I simply couldn't have done it without them
