They use TG as it is a popular 'blokey car' programme with 3 well known male presenters. And because they lack any real imagination to use another well known programmes. And because it will cause a reaction, haven't you noticed anytime they use TG as a reference/guide, even more publicity for the issue and the show is generated.

Well yes, but it still doesn't make it right though, does it? Poor TG.

I was served by a bloke in Evans yesterday I am training to work in a very male-dominated industry at the moment and in my opinion, no amount of legislation will do anything to change the fact and boys grow up with different role models and different educational choices and this leads them towards different career choices. It's all very well saying that more women should be doing 'x,y,z', but if there are no girls aspiring to grow up and do those jobs, it's not going to happen. They don't aspire to these things because they don't see anyone 'like them' doing them, so it's a bit of a self-fulfilling thing. I am very anti positive discrimination, and basically, I think it makes most sense for people of whatever gender to do what appeals to them and what they're good at. That's not sexism, that's common sense.

You're welcome I actually had exactly this discussion with my course manager a few weeks ago - there are no women in the year above me on my course, one other in my year, and none in the year below. None have signed up yet for this year's intake and he was desperate to know what he was doing wrong. I pointed out that when it comes to school leavers, it's far from his fault if four years ago they all took GCSE options that led them to A level options that didn't give them the right pre-requisites for network engineering. I'm just lucky that as a mature student, my A levels didn't matter. Then again, I didn't really relate to women and girls much growing up - most of my mates were boys, I played mostly with boys toys and I've always preferred 'bloke' telly (Discovery Shed is the greatest idea ever, though I've not had access to it as yet). And Loose Women makes me want to throw a brick through the telly.

I am totally against positive discrimination. That way you don't get the best available. Who wants a doctor or a dentist chosen for their gender/ethnic origin/taste in handbags rather than their ability?
As to TG, I think it would be a splendid riposte to get a model in a bikini, called her a presenter, have her say 'Hello' at the beginning of the programme and 'Goodbye' at the end, then draped herself over a car bonnet in between. People who liked the programme would see the irony, people who didn't would go splendidly ballistic.

Yep. One of my Aunts wanted to learn how to be a mechanic when she was in secondary school, this would have been in the mid 1970s. My Grandmother, her mum, didn't have any issues with this but my Grandad, her dad did. He said no but he wasn't, genuinely wasn't saying no to be sexist or nasty, he wasn't like that at all, he was saying no because he worked in that industry himself and he knew what things would have been like for her and he didn't want her to be abused in any way, he was trying to protect her. Stubborn as my Aunt is, she went and made some enquiries at the local college and they told her that 'girls aren't allowed to be part of classes like that'. Needless to say she was upset and angry for a very long time but she had to get over it and move on. She ended up working with children in a nursery school for a couple of years and then in the catering department of 2 different hospitals.

And Loose Women makes me want to throw a brick through the telly. Pretty much the same in the Accounting degree I did. I'm stubborn and won't go for the obvious choice and I delight in shocking people. I've just looked at Discover Shed and it looks brilliant Loose Women is just moaning and whining. (I do moan but I don't need to hear it on the TV too)

See, I'm partial to a bit of Loose Women, but not in big doses. It's not something I'll watch everyday, but I'll watch it every now and then. But I watch car programmes, and other 'blokey' stuff too.

I never liked that Loose Women show, I hate whingy women. OK, something is on your mind, talk to your mates, get it out of your system and move on. I do think I am a good listener too. But there is something about that show that really winds me up, esp one of the women on it, a woman called Carol. I f**king hate that woman with a passion I usually reserve for eco freaks and republicanism. She is such a nasty, vulgar, common chav, she disgusts me, she is an appalling role model for anyone of any age and she shouldn't be allowed out in public.
Mods/Admin, if this is a bit OTT, you can delete it, I don't mind.
On another point, the shows I have always enjoyed, even as a kid, were documentaries, shows that tell stories, real stories. Educational shows, things like The Cook Report, Watchdog, anything about politics and the news. World In Action was great too and Panorama. I also have a passion, a loving passion for the work of Rik Mayall, he is one of my all time heroes. From a very early age. I am serious but I love a good laugh too, esp at 'dirty' comedy, and the Carry On Movies are right up my alley too.

That Carol woman is an awful and a bad example of a role model to anyone. Good thing she's not my role model. She's too bl**dy whinging and one more thing, she shouldn't be on tv anyway.

I can't abide that Colleen woman either. Her double act with Kerry Katatonic on the Iceland ads is another thing that makes me want to take an Uzi to the telly.

Eugh. Colleen Nolan and Kerry Katona.
I hated Kerry's 'documentries' on MTV One with her then and ex-husband Mark Croft. She makes me sick and also hated Colleen on Dancing on Ice. They shouldn't be on TV.
They're pretty unpopular with the members of the public. They're trying to relaunch their careers and it made them more unknown and unpopular.

Why would the company think that those two tw*ts would make anyone want to go to one of their shops? I do shop in Iceland but it certainly isn't because of their commercials, it is because the things I get in there I can't get anywhere else. it is a practical thing.

Good luck mate Andy does speak sense. Under her new proposals we’d have to boost the number of women on the show to reflect the make up of the population. That means mathematically one of our three presenters would have to be a transsexual, so James is firing up the bandsaw and digging out the Kate Moss Top Shop collection as we speak.

I posted a comment on the TG site. It is there now, but it is a bit ranty so it might get deleted. Under my real name, Sarah Williamson.
