Goodness we've never had a proper welcome/introduce yourself thread. Anyway, new or old (re)introduced yourself to the JMB. What inspired you to join and don't be shy! ;D Hai *waves* I'm Maygrail or MG. I have been a member here since November 2007 (where has the time gone?) but I was a previous member of the original board which was in the summer. I've always enjoyed TG since it was brought back from the brink and James is the best IMHO. I been lucky to meet him on several occasions. I also love films and other stuff which I'll bore people with when required. Back to the studio and over to you...... and this is a lovely place

Greetings and salutations!
Have loved TG for a number of years--it was on US telly quite a while ago, then disappeared, and now we are teased mercilessly with it by BBCA (barely into the start of Season 13 here....*sighs*).
My daughter made mention some time ago that she liked James best, and I started thinking about it and realized that I agreed with her! Started poking about the internet and found you all....found Helen's DailyMotion Page and now have sampled the James & Oz shows (still waiting for DVDs of those...) and have recklessly thrown my hat into the delicious fanfic section.
Love that all you feed my addiction and fan the flames of my madhot passion.....well done!

What a great idea MG ;D I admit to "lurking" as a guest for a while and have to say was really pleased to find such a friendly welcoming place where James worship is compulsary ;D I love all things Top Gear especially James I love fast cars especially when James is driving them and I've learnt a hell of alot about wine/booze for some reason oh yes that will be because of James ;D Anyway....... i would strongly recommend coming out of the closet and being a full blown member of the JMB ;D Its fun, imformative, full of Jamesness and full of great fellow Mayhemers ;D x

I used to watch top gear on and off for years but when i lost my job in 2008 i could not bring myself to watch the Jeremy kyle show so I started watching reruns on Dave and that is when i really got into it big time which lead me to do a google search on James May which brought me here.

Hi folks, I'm XJ. My pseudonym is a combination of my own name and that of my car, a 1993 Jaguar XJS. I love that car to pieces! I was one of the first people to join the JMB, more than two years ago. I was also a member of its predecessor for a few weeks, before the present board was set up in its place for administrative reasons. I found the previous board via a link on a James May appreciation thread on Digital Spy. I thoroughly enjoyed reading that thread, although I never posted any comments on there - it had closed before I found it. Luckily, its spirit was preserved elsewhere, so I was able to join in the fun after all. ;D In case anyone might be interested, here is a link to what could be described as JMB 'Genesis'. All 436 pages of it!! ;D www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=543693&highlight=James+May+Appreciation+Thread

This is a fab idea ;D Where shall I start then? At the beginning I guess.... *clears throat* .... I've been here for about 6 months now and call myself From Afar as I'm a Brit abroad in the Middle East. I've always loved TG (even from the "old" days before our current 3 presenters back in the Pebble Mill William Woollard days - yes I am that geek ) and only realised how amazing our James was last year. I always liked James the most but did find myself becoming slightly obsessed last summer after MOH stumbled upon the Oz and James series and we both became facinated with it learning about the wine and having a good laff as well..... although I had alternative motives to watching it as I fell for his lovely personality and character seeing him in a less structure TV format to TG (the whole "thong" experience in the first episode may have aided my feelings as well possibly ) I am "in the closet" here as no one else knows about my addiction to Mr May and I am so happy I came across all you lovely lovely people here on the JMB so I can express my obsessions and share my feelings and thoughts on the whole JM expereince. LONG MAY WE ALL squeeeeeee TOGETHER!!!!!!

Hello Everyone Hmm...what to say.... Well I'm a 24 year old Psychology student about to graduate in June. I used to like Top Gear back in about 2002 when my Dad used to watch it, but I really got into it about 4 years ago when I became a student. I really like James because he is such an individual (and he is lovely)! I also lurked about on here for an age before I was brave enough to join and post. But I am very glad I did because everyone is lovely

This is a good idea ;D but what to say? So, I'm Daisy. I'm not really a Daisy, it comes from an old work nickname, and let's be honest, really I'm a Sarah and there are so very many of them out there! I do answer to Daisy though, and have considered changing my name properly one day. I'm *somewhere* in mah thirties, and many days feel as though I'm in my hundred-and-thirties ;D Why am I here? Well, let's face it, I do love a geek. I've always gone more for brains over beauty and when you find both things together, tis always a bonus!

Hello, I'm Wy and if you haven't noticed me on the board you haven't looked very far... I'm usually here (I habitually keep certain websites open in the background when I'm doing stuff online - which, as I am supposed to graduate in July, is most of the time) and I'm always happy to help out if anyone has problems on the board. I love all things Top Gear related - this goes back to the Pebble Mill days as it does for Afar, but I also like things like House, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and 'quiz-coms' like QI, The Bubble and Argumental (Rufus Hound playing naked badminton FTW). My two longest-standing celebrity crushes are our lovely Jeremy and Stephen Fry... for, ooh, about 20 years now (god, how did I get so old?), so when I finally got to see Top Gear being filmed last year, and I discovered that Stephen was the SIARPC, I think I nearly exploded with joy. I'm a woman of simple pleasures - good beer, good food and dodgy old cars - and I spend a lot of time wondering how my life got so complicated. This is probably a bad thing, because I should be spending my time working on things for university as I'm due to graduate this summer. I'm fascinated by mechanical things and I belong to the Catalina Society because I have a minor obsession with flying boats. I'm also a member of Club Triumph as I own a geriatric Herald 1200 convertible - much like the one James turned into a yacht, except mine's green - called Gerald (that wasn't my fault, it was the name the previous owner gave him... er, it) that I love unconditionally even though it's constantly going wonky. My hobbies (besides breaking down in my car) include swearing, cynicism and misanthropy. And beer. Which does, of course, enhance all the above except for the car part. I've been through a lot of changes in the last year and I couldn't have got through it half as successfully without the wonderful ladies of the JMB

Heeeey, I'm Vix, and I don't spend half as much time on here as I should! I'm bossy, I'm fussy, I'm loyal, I'll have a laugh, I'm not your average 20 YO and I can't stand Aunt Bessie's Roast Potatoes. I'm not sure there's much else to tell you about myself! I've had a right laugh on this board over my time here. I've been through times both good and bad, and no matter what comes my way, the ladies here are always happy to offer words of wisdom & support (or just nag me ). Uh... Yeah. Happy JMB-ing peoples!

Hello Everyone! I joined this board last December. How I wish I had found this place earlier! I didn't even know that James existed until about a year ago when my neighbor gave me a downloaded copy of Drink To Britain. I must say that I instantly fell in love with James' sense of humor and intellect. His good looks, great hair and sheer sexiness escaped me initially. The more I watched DTB, the more obsessed I became. Then someone told me about Top Gear and that it had the same bloke as in DTB. The rest is history! I live in the States, therefore I live with downloads of most of James' work. At least I can watch whatever I want, whenever I want, and I don't have to rely on DAVE! As a thirtysomething, married woman, my obsession is all my own. MOH knows just the basics, and that's all he needs to know! ;D I have no allusions that I will ever meet James, so I don't have to worry about being so tongue-tied I cannot speak to him or saying something unbelievably stupid. However, there is the sadness that he will forever remain elusive. Visiting this board on a daily basis gives me the James-fix I need to carry on with my day. God bless the JMB!!!! ;D

Hello! Maygrail - thank you for this thread! Since impulsively I joyned JMB about week ago I kept thinking where was the best place to manifest my presence here. So I am Vasco. Genesis of my nickname is quite ridiculous as it was the name of the Penguin I created for my child on some Disney site - and those of you who's got children probably know what I mean (anyway poor penguin has died already). I discovered your board thanks to Christmas wishes of my children when my boy ordered some Airfix model and my daughter decided to build a Lego house for her one million army of teddy bears. Happy that my girl suddenly decided to become an architect and my son took interest at engineering I took a step further and and armoured with JM book went to Selfridges to thank the author for bringing out hidden talents of my offspring. And that's how it started. James appeared to be a very nice man, I began to read about him and Top Gear on Internet and as a result I found you. What personal can I write about myself? I work with children as a nursery nurse (what doesn't mean that I deal with my ones particularly well I am graduated at history and theory of literature at University noone heard about, so when I came to London I had to start getting my qualifications from the scratch again. Language barrier doesn't let me to work at my proffession as a literature teacher, but bunch of 3 year olds in my nursery bring joy to my life too. Coming here (to London) was the best decision of my life! Girls, thank you for all this fun I've got when read your posts. It's very entertaining, really! Keep the course, captains and I wish you the best!

MOH introduced me to motorsport (and real ale!) many years ago and I've been hooked on anything car related ever since. I also worked in the Petroleum Industry for 20 years so I guess motorsport has always been in my blood. I started watching Top Gear and have always had a soft spot for Jeremy Clarkson. It wasn't until a couple of years ago that suddenly I realised that I had this huge crush on James May. I thought it would pass but it didn't (thank god ) and initially that scared me a bit. I thought I ought to be far too old for that sort of thing!! I was relieved to find this board and soon realised that I wasn't the only one in their 40's to have a crush on James. TOH doesn't know about my visits here and sadly I can't be here as often as I would like. This board is a wonderful place to belong to, thank you ladies for all the laughs, advice and friendship you provide.

The JMB is a wonderful place, and brycegold don't worry about being in your 40's, I can just about remember them. I might be descibed as on of the 'ancients' of the board, I won't tell you my real age except that I am very much in excess of 40. My name Eshalda, has been a house name in our family for four generations, and comes from Eshald well (which was in the back yard of an ancestor's home,)and supplied a local brewery with water. James has been a passion of mine for years. I lurked on the board for a long time before joining, and the man knows I am a regular visitor to the board, which is a special place for me. Cars have always interested me, and I have driven many in my time (and yes, I do remember double declutching, and the regular servicing, some of which I did myself.) Top Gear is a programme I have watched for years, but it is James who I feel real affinity with and admire his many abilities, and dashing good looks. When it comes to me, I find it difficult to describe myself. I have a combined degree in music and English, but am surrounded by a family of serious mathematicians and physicists. I think I am loyal, and am a better listener than talker, but beyond that I struggle to find things to say.

Hey! i thought i should introduce myself to everyone here. I'm Nicolaaaah (well, Nicola is the actual name) and i have been a member since...yesterday. When i first started to watch Top Gear, i thought "Whoa.. who is that long haired dude? He's so charming and handsome!" and went on the internet to find out more about him. That's when i found you lot. I lurked about for a while before mustering enough courage to join. I'm happy i joined, people have been so welcoming! hmm. What can i say about myself? Well, i'm leaving school this year and i do realise there's this massive age gap between me and James for me to have this huge crush. but i don't care. It's his fault for being so lovely. I agree with Maygrail. This is a lovely place. ;D

Ok where do I begin ;D suppose I'd first say that old Mr May sort of crept up on me, bit me on the bum and then I was hooked, sadly my boys do not share my love of all things May, to the point where they have done unspeakable things to my Mr May fridge magnet, though in their defense they will watch TG and if I do enough bribing anything that James has appeared on. Have always watched TG from the days of Miss Rippon, to a young Mr Clarkson and now of course now. Joined DS much later than did the other admin members, then onwards to the other site ;D and now here, have spent many a jolly few minutes to many hours it's been a laugh mainly (shame you don't paid, I'd never be off) but by and large all credit goes to the members, who make it much easier Have made some lovely friends and hopefully more in the future, so thanks James even if I can't yet get you into an armlock, I've gained otherwise ;D As this is open to the whole world I'll not say much more, or that may all depend ;D

Hi. I'm Laura. I found out about Top Gear in 2009-my friend just would not shut up about it. So, I went out and bought the Vietnam special DVD and laughed my head off. I watch it, WITH ADS, on the 9 Network, in Australia. :look: and I really liked Hammond, but then, decided to change to May, as Hamster was too much like my friend. :/ so, I'm now a May follower. I do lurk at odd hours in the morning (your time,) and so it's better to PM me to talk to me. I like reading the fiction, and have decided to write a little myself.. yeah..bye.

Gidday! I'm Eclair ;D The original Aussie admin on the board Lymaze, Sloopy and I created this board in November 2007. We had been posting on "The James 'Captain Slow' May Appreciation thread on the Digital Spy website in 2007 (great link supplied by XJSarah above, thank you ;D ). There is a very long story there but essentially we got booted off Digital Spy for repeatedly being "off topic" ;D...me thinks someone complained as we dominated DS as a very popular thread with mega hits! Gosh we had some characters on that thread! ;D After that hiccup, we set up the "James May Smut" forum...but further hiccups were to come, and we had to abandon that forum due to admin problems. Finally, as above in Nov 2007, we set up "The James May Board" or TJMB or JMB as it is fondly known as now. Sloopy moved on and Ly and I recruited our dear friends Lew and Inky as fellow admin, along with our wonderful Mods - Glam, Puss, Wy and Maygrail (couldn't have done it without everyone, thank you ). I'm proud so many friendships have been made through our humble little forum. Many people have met and made friendships and that is the nicest thing. Some have not met, but still made wonderful friendships online! We've always had fantastic "resources" on this board, with all sorts of wonderful pictures, information, links and uploads and the like, which for me and the many other members living outside the UK, has been brilliant . And I probably shouldn't be putting that as the copyright lawyers will be after us I've not been around much recently on the board as my personal life has been busy in that last year after quite a few years as a single woman, I met a lovely man . We've spent many hours watching Top Gear/James May DVD's ;D (and yes I met him on the internet ). But that asides, the JMB has brought me much fun and laughter through the appreciation of the lovely Mr May and best show in the world, Top Gear and I hope it does to everyone else as well....thank you ;D

Hey all! I'm theplaguerat, name chosen because of my large fascination for all things Emilie Autumn I've been a fan of Top Gear since series 7 and James I think since 8. I managed to get to their TG Live show in 2007 and am hopefully going to get my arse up and see them again this year. I came to this board after lurking on HammondHeaven and have made myself quite at home, I don't post a lot but do generally spy and see what's going on in the land of Mayniacs. Anyway, my real name is Meg and I enjoy playing piano, reading and music. I've got a large music taste ranging from Bach to Lady Gaga to Iron Maiden. I also love watching horror movies and can't wait for the new Nightmare On Elm Street remake to be released So yes thats me

Post by aeromanda on Apr 12, 2010 22:48:41 GMT
Hello Everyone! I can't believe I'm just now getting around to this thread and introducing myself. Let's see what can I say about myself? My screen name is aeromanda "aero" for my absolute favorite band ever in the world Aerosmith and "Manda" is short for my real name Amanda. I'm married, in my early thirties, I live in the US on the east coast, and I have no children. I have been watching TG for about a year now. I started watching it because it was funny and quickly noticed the dashing Mr. May. It didn't take too long before I was googling him and, voila, I found this site. I noticed in this thread several people have said that they have always been into cars or that they have always been mechanically minded. For me that was not the case. When I was a little girl, one day I asked my dad what he was doing when he was working on his car. He told me that "cars and tools are for boys" and that I should go inside and bother my mother. That pretty much squashed any interest in things mechanical that I might have had until I started watching TG. I started watching it mostly for JM but as I was watching the show I kept hearing terms like torque, horsepower, and differential. I had no idea what any of these things meant so after getting some books and bugging my husband to explain stuff to me I have become a bit of a car bore myself. I don't know that I'll ever be able to look at a car and tell you the make and the model like many people can but I am able to look at a car and have an idea of what the make is. That is worlds better than where I was a year ago when to me things were either "car" or "not car". Or, if they fell into the car category "pretty car" or "ugly car". As for outside the car world, I have had two long standing obsessions besides James May and those are Steven Tyler from Aerosmith and Alan Rickman. ST is the exception but otherwise, I guess there is just something about older British men that really does it for me. That's about all I can say about me. Carry on ;D
