I have just had my bi-annual mouth rinse of dental wash (i.e. I've just returned from the dentist.) I got a clean bill of dental health, so to celebrate (and kill the taste of the mouth wash,) I'm eating some chocolate peppermint creams.

Errmmm..... I've been baking a pie-ish thing..... again... today ;D ;D ;D It's something VERY Dutch, so I bet none of you has eaten it - ever. I can't describe... well, let me try. I've sent Aeromanda, DMC and Meim the simple editions of it, the biscuit type. This tastes pretty much the same, only now it has amandel (is that English? ) between the biscuits. The brown upper and under layer taste of..... spiced things ermm, ginger-y.

Amandel?? Is someone borking my name? Do you mean almond there nat? It looks like almond paste. Or possibly marzipan, which is almond paste with added sugar, I believe. And...I don't think you sent me anything like that. I just had a Sprecher's root beer. I can sense the jealousy from here. I'm gonna go try for another nap.

ALMOND yes!! Meim, I have sent you "speculaas" brand: Jumbo. Mazipan is in the inside, well, sort of marzipan. SLfriend, it's not chocolaty or peanuty at all I can assure you. Well, Antonia, who says I am not house size? Yea, I know, I ate half of the applepie on my bd as well and I've already eaten a lot of this pie (I share as well, but my brother doesnt want to eat a lot and gran neither for the sake of their weight, even though she says she can't eat it because she'll feel itchyness all over her body after it ). But yea, well, I don't do fitness or any other sport, I just, I don't know, but even though if I had size XXXXL, I still would've eaten it. ;D

Homemade pho.
From scratch, not my spiced up beef broth version I usually make. Went out and got some beef bones to make the broth from scratch, found all the spices, and holy goodness I have put myself in food heaven.

Homemade pho. From scratch, not my spiced up beef broth version I usually make. Went out and got some beef bones to make the broth from scratch, found all the spices, and holy goodness I have put myself in food heaven. I suppose a bowl of pho wouldn't do well in a padded envelope, huh? It'd drip out all over the place within minutes, so...no. Plus it'd get cold and that's no good either. If you want the recipe, all you had to do was ask. Be advised, you may need an Asian grocery store for some of the ingredients. I know not everyone lives across the street from the best Asian grocer in Wisconsin(I seriously do, I am spoiled so rotten). Soup stock: 1 large onion, unpeeled 3-in. piece of fresh ginger 3 lbs. beef bones, include some marrow bones, but not too many(about a pound or so of the total) 3 whole star anise 2-inch cinnamon stick 1 lb stewing beef, brisket, or oxtail(I skipped this one because I'm special that way-the bones I ended up with had a lot of meat on them though) 1/3 cup fish sauce 1/4 cup Chinese black vinegar or balsamic vinegar(I used balsamic vinegar, it was fine) 1 tablesthingy chili sauce 1/4 tsp ground black pepper 10 oz. rice noodles, soaked in bowl of water for 30 min(I never pre-soak; if you need a picture of what the rice noodles should look like I can try hunting one down) 2 cups mixed cilantro, mint, and Thai basil leaves 1 cup bean sprouts 2 jalapeno chiles, thinly sliced into rings 1 lime, sliced into wedges 1) Slice onion and garlic in half, roast in oven at 350F for 30 min. (this part will make the kitchen smell SO GOOD) 2) Put 3.5 quarts water and everything under the Soup Stock category in a large pot and bring to a boil. Skim off any scum, lower the heat, cook at a medium simmer until reduced by 1/3, for at least three hours. Strain the stock, reserve the stew meat and broth, discard everything else. 3)Bring large pot of water to boil for the noodles. Skim the fat from the soup stock, add the fish sauce, black vinegar, chili sauce, and pepper. Bring stock back to simmer. 4) Slice the flank steak as thinly as possible against the grain. Cut the reserve stew meat into small cubes. 5) Drain the soaked noodles, boil for 2 minutes, drain(I just boil them straight and rinse them with cold water, works fine for me), and rinse with cool water. Turn the heat up to high under the stock and bring it to a boil. 6) Divide the noodles, cubed beef, and sliced raw steak among four bowls(or however many you feel like making ). Pour boiling stock into each bowl and top with a handful of mixed herbs, bean sprouts, chiles, and a lime wedge. Serve at once. (yes, the beef is supposed to be VERY rare when cooked like this but if it doesn't cook it enough to your liking/comfort level, toss the beef in the boiling broth for 30 seconds to make sure it cooks, then add it to the bowls and add the broth) I did not use up all the broth-I've got enough left over for at least two more meals, if not three(and that's for me and MOH, not just me), so once the broth is completely made, you just need sliced steak, the green herbs, bean sprouts, chiles, and limes, bring the stock to a boil, and serve. Freaking awesome, because this was a rather work-intensive dish.

Soup. Sushi. Orange pop.
God bless the restaurants in town who deliver.
I know this makes me weird as heck but when I'm this sick, sushi's one of the only solid foods I can take.

;D ;D Yes, I've been baking - again. This time another typical Dutch product called Taaitaai. I don't know the English translation for it, but I've send some of you 'ontbijtkoek' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontbijtkoek), which tastes a bit like it, only taaitaai is more tough sticky/hardy and it tastes more of anise.
