In the main section of the Sunday Times was an article called ' G'day I'm The real Stig... I fagged for Jeremy.' It's an article about Jerry Austen aged 47,who was Jeremy's Stig at Repton. As the title suggests he now lives in Australia. both seem to have fond memories of each other.

Yes, they were good times at Repton. Bit daunting, that first year, being the new kids, but all good character-building stuff ! My son's having a good laugh about the Times article - he's now called "Stig Junior" at school, which he thinks is cool !
Hope the whole Stig drama dies down for everybody concerned with Top Gear...not the sort of thing you want to deal with on an ongoing basis.

Just a question - is this site 99% female? or 100% excluding me? I have to admit I thought this was James May's official site (assuming he has one), but it does seem a tad lop-sided to be that, I am finally seeing...

lew - I can't say for sure 100% that it's on there....my brother saw the article in the paper (didn't know about it either, as I couldn't get hold of him to warn him - opened it up to see my face all over P3 - gobsmacked, were his words !)

Don't know if anyone's interested but Ben Collins was on This Morning this morning (if you see what I mean!). I only watched this out of curiosity, having previously decided I wanted nothing to do with the man, but I have had a concern all along that he was intent on bad-mouthing the show and the guys. Although I'm sure there will be some tabloid "revelations" along the line, and although I actually didn't like the bloke - I found him to be a little bit slimey - I was pleased that the book is described as "positive" and he was very complimentary about the driving skills of the TG3. thismorning.itv.com/thismorning/showbiz/stig-finally-revealed |

He doesn't seem mean-spirited, just.... dumb. I think he's a hot-headed guy who took some bad advice without thinking it through. I don't know what they paid Stig, but it was steady income plus the occasional guest appearance with Clarkson plus some promotional duties, plus the chance to drive cars most men would kill for. I don't think he'll realize how good he had it until it's gone.

Al Murray on Dave tonight (as live), asking the audience if they know what the 7 wonders of the ancient world were, then saying there are only 2 nowadays - there used to be 3, then "someone told us who the f*cking Stig is!!!"

Edit: bearing in mind the concerns I've expressed on here that Collins would write trashily about TG and the guys, I was pleased to read a review on FG (thank you Jenna42) that contained this section:
"There are no Deep Throat revelations about TG - from what little he says about the presenters I got the impression he liked Hammond best, was slightly baffled by James and a bit overawed by Jeremy. If there was any friction it was with Andy, but the references to the TG4 are surprisingly few and completely unrevealing."
