The heat and humidity is beginning to arrive and will be in place big time by tomorrow. There is already a heat index of 105° posted for Wednesday and Thursday, so working outdoors and spending time at the pool without the benefit of shade is out of the question.

Wooo...could reach as much as 70 degrees here. Better brace ourselves..!
(Actually, I'm not that keen on mega hot weather. I don't function well)

Thankfully, this dreadful spate of heat is supposed to go away by the weekend. That being said, it will still be in the 80s with a chance of some isolated thunderstorms by the end of the weekend. I hate this oppressive heat as much as I hate extreme cold.

It was absolutely hellishly hot here today. The thermometer on my car registered 103 degrees! Apparently, we shall have massive t-storms tomorrow and then some cooler air. I hope this is no indication of what's to come in the middle of summer.

It's very precarious here. I was sitting in the sun 10 minutes ago and it's bow very cloudy and rainy outside. Yesterday evening we had a very unusual sky. Ive asked people here and they agreed on never having seen such clouds before. They were rolling in the sky.

Those are some nasty-looking clouds! Any tornadoes in them?

We had that too yesterday Natcar. And a lot of rain & thunder. My son was so scared.

Keep an eye on those clouds, Nat. They look as if the god Thor is about to emerge to zap you mere mortals where you stand.
Lynnemezzo - I read your post as "any tomatoes in them?". For a while, I was thinking how exciting your TV weather forecasts must be.

It's thrashing down with rain here today, windy, grey and cold. That's rather a shame as (for those people who like that sort of thing, and I can't say I am one) the Olympic Torch is passing through my neighbourhood today, and all sorts of jollities were planned. I've no doubt they'll still take place, but everyone's going to get extremely soggy.

Same here Dit, it's bucketing down. We don't get the torch until Sunday, and I bet you can guess what the weather forecast is.

Lynn, hah, no, we dont have tornado's here thankgod, altho Id love to experience one some day. Im usually scared of thunderstorms, that is, for the lightning, but this time I was so overwhelmed by the beautyfulness of the sky that I sort of forgot my anxiety. ;D LOL @ Amie8
A video of the sky here last night:

The visual imagery of the sky raining down with tomatoes is hilarious! But to experience an actual tornado is not on my bucket list!

I don't know who ordered this excessively inappropriate weather but really! The Olympic torch had to be re-routed as Blackpool Promenade had to be closed because it was so dangerous, so the torch is residing overnight in the Tower Ballroom. I'm just hoping they have plenty of fire extinguishers, as the place has burned down once before, and no-one wants to go through that again! In other news, the brook at the bottom of my garden is now the brook in my garden. Its normal level is about four feet below the garden but earlier this evening it was level with the garden and continued to encroach, which is not surprising as it's p1ssed it down continually all day and is still doing so. The photos show how things were earlier (I think the turquoise thing floating in next door's garden is a plastic bowl). I've just had a quick look out in the dark and the garden lights that stick about 12 inches out of the ground are virtually submerged. I know it's not a big deal compared to what much of the country's suffering, and I'm not in any danger as the garden is well down from the level that the house is on, but it's unusual to say the least.

Sunny and 70s. Just copy and paste this everytime my name shows up. It's all I'll ever say in this thread until late summer when it's unbearably hot for a few days. Sounds nice but it's reeeeally boring.

Looks like there's more in store for the north west this weekend, so batten down the hatches, girls, and get your waterwings on standby.
Not so bad here in the east, but we're still officially in a drought (despite a daily soaking since April), so you can't win.

We had a terrible thunderstorm earlier this evening in DC. The wind blew so hard that the rain came down sideways!

It's mainly grey here, with slithers of promising blue brightening up the sky. I can see the clouds moving swiftly along and I think we're promised more of the blue later. Phew.
On the forecast last night, the weather bods were issuing doom and gloom flood forecasts for several areas. Time to build an ark maybe. It's certainly been one wet summer thus far.

Not much of a surprise, it's raining again. Had a few lovely days during the week and it's calling for rain all weekend. I think we've skipped summer this year and gone straight through to autumn again. *sigh*

After that storm last night, it cooled off considerably. It's only in the upper 80s this afternoon!

The weather foecast for today was atrocious, as it turned out we came off quite lightly. Yes, it was humid and there was one heavy downpour, but we ended with lots of sunshine. I have just been watching the news and saw the flooding in Newcastle, also a spectacular flash of lightening hitting the Tyne bridge.

Yes, I think some people in the midlands have had it pretty bad today too. Maybe Antonia can shed some light. In the east, it's been warm and humid all day and still is, although the wind has picked up. My poor bird feeder is a bit unstable in high winds - expect to see it lying on the ground tomorrow, with a bunch of really hacked off birds staring at it accusingly.
