We had 40 mph winds with gusts up to 70-80 mph into the night. Lots of trees down and people without power. People down the road from me had part of their roof ripped off. I was lucky. There are flooded roads near me and it's raining off and on. Unlike slfriend, we normally have snow this time of year, but it's a balmy 65 degrees out now, I guess the residual effects of the tropical air.
Prayers go out to all the people who lost loved ones and their homes.

Yes. I've been watching the extent of the damage online. So sad to see it all unfold. We are thinking of you.

I think we got the least the storm had to offer. Rain, yes. Wind, yes. Damage, no. We didn't lose power, not even a flicker. The river next to my office is still rising, but it's expected to crest soon and start receding.
The pictures coming from the coastal regions are unbelievable. Keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers.

I didn't lose any power which is incredible. I haven't been out but my cousin said she didn't see any trees down on her way to work. Unbelievable over 8 mil out of power. NY is saying the marathon is still on for Sunday. I think it's to lift people's spirits. Don't know if I'm going to make it to see my brother run. Thoughts go out to all.

So far all we're getting is wind. My family in Ohio lost power and has downed trees, plus I think I-90 is underwater. Fun times. Hope everyone dealing with this mess of a storm is all right.

Everything seems to back to what passes for normal here. The rain has stopped as has the winds. I look forward to getting back to normal, but seeing all the devastation and destruction in New Jersey and New York is very hard to watch. My heart goes out to all those poor people who have lost literally everything; my prayers go out to you. And prayers and good thoughts for the wonderful responders who worked night and day to rescue people, put out fires, and work on the power grids. They are the best!

I feel lucky to live on the northern shore of Staten Island. The south part is so destroyed along the shore. Some of the stories I've heard are heart breaking. My Beloved and I are fine. We lost power 6 times over the course of Monday and it came back within 10 seconds each time. So odd. The trees surrounding us survived. The wind on Monday night shook the house all night long and kept me awake but its still standing. Transportation has been tough. We depend on the ferry to get us to work and it's been out until today at noon. All in all, we're lucky. I have NO interest in doing that again. Anyone here from Florida? If so how the HELL do you do this every year?!
It looks like all the east coasters here made it through! Sweet!

Glad to hear you weathered the storm Heymysock! The pictures coming our of Staten Island and Coney Island are just terrible. In some areas it looks like a bomb went off. Thank goodness Sandy was good to you. ;D

It's just amazing weather here. A real Indian summer! I took advantage of it by getting outside and finding five Geocaches! One was in a vineyard, which made me think of James and Oz. I figure it'll be the last nice weekend weather for quite a while, so it was nice to take advantage of it.

I haven't turned on the AC in three days! It's a minor miracle. It's 52F/11C at the moment (9am) and I couldn't be more comfy. Not supposed to go over 82F/27.7C this week. AHHHH!

I know it's November, but surely it shouldn't be as dark as this at midday? If I want to read or do anything intelligent I have to switch all the lights on. The fact that it's pouring down outside isn't going to help, obviously, but skies shouldn't be that dark a leaden grey, right?

I know. Short days, getting even shorter. It's not raining here, so I went out for a walk this morning (all I can afford to do at the moment) and it has that raw, wintery quality to it today even though it's not that cold. However, there was lots of wildlife scuttling about, which cheered me up. I live in a town, so you don't expect anything too exotic, but I saw a kingfisher, a grey wagtail, a grey heron, plenty of squirrels and - inevitably - a couple of rats.
I also cheer myself up by reminding myself that Greenwich Meantime is two months shorter than British Summer Time

We began Eastern Standard Time the first weekend of November. Thankfully, it will go away the first weekend of March, but these short days are a bane. The sun goes down at 5 PM and will continue to go down earlier and earlier. I hate this time of the year.
We had torrential rain and very heavy winds last night. It was almost as bad as the hurricane!

Wind last night - rattled all the windows. Rain today. It's the kind of cold that seeps into your bones. Hello Winter.

Actually, quite warm here for December. I think heard of the local DC weathermen say that it will be the warmest December on record. It's supposed to be in the 40s for Christmas, but no snow at all in the forecast.

Snow is falling very gently here. Cars and grass are covered, but not the streets. Still, it's very pretty and calm.

First we got a few cm of snow, then the weather turned to rain before the snow had been cleared from the roads. The main roads are salted, so the ice disappears, but the smaller roads are full of ice that the grit just won't stick to. It doesn't help that the small roads are pretty much "polished" by the youngsters sliding around in their old Volvos ... To help you understand how slippery the ice is here now: - I was hardly able to get the car moving yesterday after stopping by the mailbox. Had to go straight to 2., or my (good, but unstudded) winter tires would just spin on level ground, leaving me with absolutely no connection between the steering wheel and the direction the car went. - Overnight, my husbands car actually slid 20-30 cm, due to a slight incline on our parking lot. ("It seemed I had less room for my car when I parked yesterday." "... Actually, I think you did ...")

It's been snowing very lightly here (Blackpool area) for about half an hour. Not sticking yet, but if it carries on like this it probably will soon. My Fridge and drinks cupboard are well stocked up, just in case!

It's very cold but no snow here yet. I've been off work for the last few days with laryngitis which has now transmogrified into a horribly snotty head, and my plan was to go back in the morning. Really hoping that wasn't a bad move. Mind you, if we have much snow, the tubes won't run so I won't be able to get there. *crosses fingers for LOTS of snow*

We've had a "January thaw." Approximately three molecules of snow melted. It's supposed to start snowing again tomorrow. Sigh.

No snow here yet either, but it's forecast for tomorrow or Tuesday. I await with interest to see whether Essex County Council are also aware of the forecast and actually get some grit onto the roads BEFORE it snows this time.
