He's worth too much you see to be lost at sea. Unless it's for Top Gear of course. Interesting....Poor James. And as for being the 'real gentleman', awww

Garmin have made it to lowestoft...... results not up yet but they seem to be having better luck on the eastern side than the western legs.

"The airsea rescue services came into play on the Newcastle- Lowestoft today (Sunday) when Tony Hamilton driving Garmin was thrown against the wheel. The impact left him in a collapsed state forcing owner Iain May to call for help.
Tony was immediately airlifted and flown to a hospital in Grimsby where he was reported to be safely recovering from his experience. "
Hope he gets well soon.
Appears that their luck wasn't as good as I thought, and that could have been James....... maybe a good job the insurance was high!

Will they never forget........................ that or they need lessens inreporting i.e. how to write a report that is relevant to the information. Blimey just think if they did this with everything, repeating old news, you woulden't be able to carry a newspaper!

I think they finished 36th overall despite the bad luck at the end.

No he wasn't and you can then also see that the person that wrote that article had no idea what he was talking about.

Monday 30th June
Team Garmin embarked on the final leg of the race from Lowestoft to Portsmouth with a plucky spirit and determination to finish in a strong position. Unfortunately the engine problems that had plagued the team’s efforts from the outset came back for one last bite! The guys found the nearest port on their Garmin 5012 and stopped briefly at Felixstowe Ferry to repair the engine. The team left Felixstowe but unfortunately the engine problems were too severe and forced them to retire the boat at Shotley Marina. Determind to join their competitors the guys jumped in a car to head down to the awards ceremony where they received an award for 3rd place in their class.
Although they faced some tough conditions on the waters and multiple problems with the boat’s engine, the morale in team stayed high throughout the race and Garmin are a proud sponsor. On behalf of Garmin we congratulate the team for achieving 3rd place in their class. Well done!

Yeah I read a bit saying James was going to do the race, then when I read the actual news it said it was Iain May. Maybe there was a confusion

Hi theplaguerat Nice to meet you hope you are enjoying the board. No there was no confusion about James being in the race. James was supposed to do it but pulled out. Not sure why.

Yeah I read a bit saying James was going to do the race, then when I read the actual news it said it was Iain May. Maybe there was a confusion Iain May (no relation to James) is a cameraman, he also works on Top Gear. The whole powerboat thing was his project. James was supposed to take part, but had to pull out because the insurance companies wouldn't let him.

Maybe thats why the insurers said "No way boyo, you'll get lost and we'll have to pay out millions" ;D Oh and welcome
