That would possibly explain why he isn't doing Croydon this year - as the powerboat thing finishes on 30th June.

James. Nick Knowles. Wetsuits. Sunshine...
*flail*
Also means no Glastonbury for James this year (27, 28, 29 June)... Richard will have his pop-up tent to himself this year!

Well done. Can we sponsor him? Perhaps the boat could have our name down the side! I hope this is going to be filmed for future entertainment.

Wow, this looks like a great day out. I love speed boats. I don't believe this, I'm going to Isle of Wight on 4th April, we sail from Porthsmouth, dang, and we almost chose different dates.

Bit more from the website about Iain May >> January 22nd. Top Gear boys enter The 2008 Round Britain Offshore Power Boat Race™. Iain May, who many people will know for the infamous Charlie Fish sailing campaign over recent years, has decided to change tack this year and will be hitting the high seas this summer in the 2008 Round Britain Power Boat Race! In his role as cameraman for BBC2’s Top Gear Iain has encountered many adverse conditions when filming in Botswana and the North Pole. This race is about endurance and is billed as the Biggest and Toughest Powerboat Race in the world! The Two Scoops Racing Team will compete on board their 39ft Hunton boat, with twin 450 HP twin diesel turbo engines capable of reaching speeds of 75mph. Iain has recently secured a team of top engineers including Sam Christopher and Roly McIldowie to work with the team and keep the boat racing at maximum capacity. “In 1969 my Dad came 11th in this race on a boat called Translucent and I have always been keen to emulate his success. I think I have selected an ideal team mate in my Top Gear colleague James May (no relation). James and I have worked closely together over the last 5 years and we have often talked about taking on a challenge of this nature. It was when we were filming at the Pole that we decided this was the race for us!” comments Iain. James signed up primarily because he saw the film from the 1969 race. “I thought they looked like a bunch of chaps doing something very British – a bit Bentley Boy’s if you like. I have never been sea sick, I am good at navigation and any boat that is faster than my plane must be interesting so I am looking forward to the race immensely.” commented James. The pair will also be joined by BBC One DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles who says he brings ‘ballast and a keen sense of humour’ to the campaign. A full list of who will race on each leg will be available shortly.

Yeah, and I can find my way to Newcastle without Sat Nav or a navigator (I can see James and Co ending up in Scandanavia ) Maybe I should offer my services - as a navigator (to begin with I don't get seasick either)

Let's hire a Winnebago and follow the course. We could turn up at every port and make him feel welcome.

my chum used to have a speedboat that we'd take out on Loch Ness. Loved it, I don't get seasick if I can be out in the fresh air but they always seem to make ferries too warm for me inside so I have to go out on deck.

If we divvied up between us.......Anyone else up for a holiday? I'll drive PS I seem to remember a fan fic based round a Winnie.....did you ever let Jezzer have his yellow car back? ??

Do you suppose Jeremy will be racing him on each stage in a car? Most of them are do-able & probably quite well matched, except for the Irish stop. Newcastle to Lowestoft would be a challenge though - routeplanner reckons it's 6 hours 23mins by road!

All I can think of is him in his Triumph Herald of Free Enterprise and wetting his finger to check which direction the wind is blowing.... ...and "sailing is REALLY boring!!!" ;D Hehehe I hope he has a lot of fun and he doesn't drown.... ;D
