Not entirely a digression, eshalda. You probably wouldn't need information about what causes a hangover if you were only allowed a third of a pint at the brewery (though I suppose it would depend on how many different beers you were allowed to sample!) On behalf of scientific research I'm going to find out just how many thirds of a pint you can drink before you get trollied.I know you ladies like to be though and as there happens to be a beer festival set up in the Gladstone Museum near by this weekend I felt it my duty to take on the challenge.(Preferably with a pie after) this isn't for cool it's for sunday when I wake up. To further the 1/3 pint v headache/hangover debate. It takes between 6 &10.

Just watched the third episode while at the same time checking reactions on Twitter. Very much 50/50; lots of people liking it a lot, others finding it incredibly patronising or dull. I've got mixed feelings as well. I just hope James will be doing other science programmes in the future in which he is more involved, instead of just reading the auto cue.

I thought it was entertaining. He didn't touch on tornadoes. Those are different that hurricanes etc. We have our tornado alley. I think the detractor is there isn't any "hands on" stuff like in man lab.

I kept waiting for the tornadoes bit too! Probably the most interesting weather I've ever experienced. Mind you, he talked about snow in all its forms but not really blizzards. Just that snow can shut down roads, schools and even airports!
I did enjoy it. I'd like to see more programs in the science forum for James. But like linden mentioned more involvement from James. ;D

I actually haven't watched it yet (or episode 2 either), but now I'm wondering if I'm going to laugh at the snow bits when I do get around to seeing this. No tornado pieces? Well, I live kinda close to tornado alley but not in it, thank goodness. We get enough of the smaller ones here as it is.

Picked up on twitter todayfrom 360 Production:
Hoping to be broadcast on the 18th August on Discovery Canada
This was in response to someone who tweeted:
Tell BBC to lighten up on the licensing so we can get it here in Canada.

It seems there is an international edition of Things You Need to Know without James. Hopefully, that's not the one they will be broadcasting in Canada.

Just a note for anyone in Canada (or possibly in the States that can pick up this channel): Discovery Channel Canada is going to be airing "Things You Need To Know" this Thursday, August 25 @ 8:00pm Eastern Time. They've blocked off two hours in their schedule for these shows, and it looks like all three episodes will be aired (don't know what's coming up in the other half hour). The weird thing is that if you check out the link online, you can see small previews of some of the topics covered in the episodes, but they sound like they're being narrated by someone else! There's a link on the page that says "tune into James May's 'Things You Need To Know' 2 hr. special on the Discovery Channel" but I'm a bit confused by the different narration... The link is: www.discoverychannel.ca/things This will be the first time ever that I will be able to watch a program featuring James on TV that isn't on DVD! Welcome to Canada, Captain Slow! *doing my happy dance, very grateful that no one can see me* ;D

BBC2 started re-running the programme today (Sunday) at 5.30pm. Stephen Fry's new series on Language also began today at 9pm.
5.40 (approx) - James is in a wood-panelled library holding a brain. 9.20 (approx) - Stephen is in a wood-panelled library holding a brain
20 minutes into James May's 20th Century - Body Fantastic, James has his brain scanned and talks to an attractive lady doctor about the results. 25 minutes into Fry's Planet Word, Stephen has....well, you get the picture.
Hmmm....interesting.

Whatever. I don't even care because James May and Stephen Fry were mentioned in the same sentence.

Blimey, people really talk like that?
She seems to be defending herself for the fact that much of a Northern Ireland screen fund has been allocated to companies outside of NI, apart from the money given to those few TV production companies.
To be honest, it's hard to tell.

Wikipedia page about "Things You Need To Know" -
The first, three-part series was aired on BBC Two between 20 June and 4 July 2011. A second, four part series is expected to be aired in the first quarter of 2012.[/b]
(Mind you, it says it was created and written by James and he also wrote the theme music, so I'm not sure how accurate all this information actually is!)

Bit of a bump, but it looks as if there is action on this. I picked up this tweet, expecting the YouTube to be either Man Lab or Toy Stories (both of which we know James is working on) and it's actually 'Things You Need To Know' Camberwell Studiosþ@FilmStudiosUK Shooting a New James May Series in Studio 2 2day. The man himself is not in yet but see him in action from last series: www.youtube.com/watch?v=maRjLnuGy-o(Studio 2 is their green screen digital film studio).

He's been doing greenscreen work today, which suggests it's to do with this series. From Catherine Ross, TV & digital producer / director (360production) Digital Derry V.
Amazing day filming with James May. Supernaturally good. Can't quite believe it - only 3 more days shooting left!
