An update and info for members on today's problems.
Word from Proboard:
"No servers are actually down.
Simply put, the servers which tell your computers how to find the forum servers are being flooded by attackers, so its very difficult for your computers requests to get through.
All machines are running fine, you just cant get to them at this time.
I'm working on trying to get more of the direction giving people into the server to try and counter this issue. "
When they say attackers, the don't mean a virus or a hacker but there appears to have been a malicious attack against proboards but they are sorting it out.

Another DNS attack I'm afraid on Proboards. They're working on it.

There appear to be a few problems with Proboards again. I am endeavouring to find out more. Some members are having problems with certain board functions and problems logging in. Hopefully all will be resolved soon.

Some of you will notice that there are duplicate threads appearing. This seems to be a problem due to the explosion/fire at proboards. Hopefully things will be sorted shortly.
If anyone notices anything else please let us know.
Thanks.

Just a question more than a problem; before i had the option to say what gender I was but it just made me tell it when I logged in. Is that new?

Not a clue, maybe your gender is required now and a button for youtube seems to have appeared

Looks like there's been some updates then. maybe too many people were pretending to be female when they were male and up to no good, but the profile button has changed so you have to say.

So if your not who you say you are, I suppose at least if there are problems then the evidence is there or here.

What I said made no sense. It is early. Lew's right.

Ly you made a lot of sense.....just these berks who spoil things on the interweb, anyway popped over to ProBoards, they say it makes for a more friendlier forum and you will have the option whether to declare or not, but I have to agree with ly and ProBoards.

I got the same thing yesterday when I logged on. But if someone wanted to lie they could couldn't they? Say your male if your female etc? How would they know?
|
|
|
Post by Puss on Jul 1, 2008 9:20:55 GMT
I don't think they would know. Still, lying is bad karma.

There's been a lot of flapping over on proboards by some internet users. Apparently they have now introduced a "hide" option on your profiles so if you really don't want everyone knowing if you're male, female or something inbetween, you can select that. However, you still need to select it and it will be logged on their database at Proboards Central.

Is it just me or are the threads from the 'locked' section, appearing on the main board aswell?

As long as you are logged in then they are visable once you log out again then they aren't visable to the entire internet ;D

Yes I'm pretty sure the locked threads would be blank to anyone who comes in and not logged on.

Yes they are. When I look at the board on my mothers computer it does not show everything

Yes I logged off and they disappeared, but I never noticed before that the threads from the locked sub-boards were duplicated and mixed in with the main unlocked board. My observation skills are known to be appalling

Hurricane Ike
Just to let all members know that Proboards have been backing up all their servers to another site in case of problems when the hurricane hits. If power goes down there is enough fuel to keep back up generators running for a week. Hopefully they will not have to resort to the back up servers but in case the Board disappears or experiences problems you will now all know what is going on.
